The Mafia Lord Forgotten Bride

Chapter 114: Investigator June

  • Next Chapter

June had found a perfect way of keeping herself busy.

After breakfast, she had returned to her room. It was ironic how the phone she had thought she didn’t need was becoming very useful to her.

She picked up the book she had named "My Info."

If everyone refused to give her more information and just expected her to sit still while they solved everything, well, they were in for a big surprise because she wasn’t going to stay still.

She went through everything she had jotted down the previous day.

There weren’t a lot of useful details, apart from what anyone could have seen as entertaining.

June sighed.

Maybe this detective work wasn’t really her skill.

But again, it wasn’t in her nature to give up.

Her baby chose that moment to kick.

June smiled. "Yes, baby. We’re not giving up now."

So, she lay back on the bed and searched for Dante Monterrio this time.

There was more information than the previous day.

Maybe it was because she had searched his name directly and not the family name.

There were numerous pictures of Dante online. He seemed to be a very busy person.

And that made June wonder why he was so obsessed with the Vassari heir. Could it be some fetish stuff?

A shudder ran through her at the thought.

She shook her head.

It couldn’t be.

But even her mother had said she had no idea what they really wanted. June had no idea if that was a lie or the truth. But she knew no one could deceive her with whatever information she gathered herself.

Soon, she was glancing through the different pictures of Dante.

Rauf’s voice floated through her head, reminding her to always observe things carefully.

He looked like he was always ready to attack someone, and June instantly felt pity for whoever attempted it.

And that was when her eyes landed on the man standing behind Dante in one of the pictures.

The face was familiar.

June paused, fixing her gaze on him.

She remembered when Rauf was giving her instructions at the party to look for a particular man in chains. Though she hadn’t seen the man in chains, she had seen this man.

June zoomed in on the picture, her heart beating with excitement.

Had she finally found something exciting?

She could hardly keep the excitement to herself, and there was only one person who could tell her more about what she had just found.

Before she could think of anything else, she ran out of her room towards Rauf’s office.

June didn’t spare the staff who were cleaning the house a glance as one of them shouted something at her.

Something that sounded like, "Be careful, ma’am."

But she couldn’t be bothered.

When she got to Rauf’s office, she pounded on the door while dancing on her toes.

"Come in," a voice said in a bored tone.

June opened the door, surprised Rauf hadn’t bothered locking it.

Once she was in, she momentarily forgot the reason she had come rushing in.

Rauf was seated with files and a laptop in front of him. His shirt sleeves were rolled up, exposing his muscles to her. The first two buttons of his shirt were undone.

And for the first time since she came here, he looked like a different person.

Like delicious candy.

June felt her nipples harden against the fabric of her shirt.

"Yes?" Rauf’s deep voice called her out of the temporary trance.

June shook her head.

What was that?

It must have been the pregnancy hormones.

Yes.

She decided it was best to blame everything on pregnancy hormones.

"Do you need anything?"

June jogged her memory.

"Yes," she said, her throat suddenly dry. "I wanted to show you something."

Rauf nodded. "What?" he asked, pulling his shirt sleeve up some more.

June had no idea if he was doing it intentionally or on reflex. Either way, she decided not to look at his arm.

She put her phone on one of the files while keeping some distance between them.

"Look at this man." She pointed at the man behind Dante. "He was at the introduction party. If he’s standing behind Dante Monterrio, doesn’t that mean he’s part of their gang?"

She looked up, smiling.

But Rauf wasn’t looking at the picture.

He was staring at her.

And the way he was looking at her made her face turn red.

"What?" she snapped, wanting to feel anything else.

"You’ve been searching for information about the Monterrios?"

She nodded.

And waited for the reprimand. ℯℯ𝑙.

She waited for him to tell her it was wrong, that she was supposed to stay still while placing her life in the hands of others.

She had been surviving very well on her own, and she wasn’t ready to leave her fate to others.

But when Rauf opened his mouth, she was surprised.

"You’re right. He’s a clue to whatever must have happened at the party."

A broad smile took over her face. "And I was able to find out some other things too."

She placed her book in front of Rauf.

"Look at this. And this. And this," she said, opening page after page and showing him the things she had jotted down.

To her surprise, Rauf paid attention to every single one.

It was as if she was one of his members giving him valuable information.

She watched his eyes move over everything until he looked up.

"You really did well."

June felt as if the room was suddenly too hot.

"Thank you."

"Some of the things you noted are useful, and they will help us know more about the Monterrios."

"Great!" she responded. "So, do I keep doing this?"

Rauf shook his head. "But I’ll beg you to stop researching them. If the Monterrios have any idea someone is digging into them, I don’t want to think about the result."

June’s smile disappeared and was replaced by a frown.

"So, what am I supposed to do? Wait!" Still without waiting for Rauf’s response, she continued. "I’ll continue searching. There’s no way they’ll know it’s all about them. I’m just searching online for random things."

Recently, Rauf had learned that once she made up her mind, there was no point trying to convince her.

Instead, he sighed. "I’ll have Henson research the strange guy."

June nodded.

"I want to know everything too."
