The pink-gold barrier held.

Outside, the Nightmare Entity raged against the dome with limbs of fused corridors and drowning hands.

Each impact sent heavy ripples through the Eros construct, but Mimi’s barrier did not break. The sound of the dungeon became distant and muffled, as if the rest of the world had been pushed several rooms away.

Inside the sudden pocket of stillness, the only clear noises were Iris’s ragged breathing and the low, resonant hum of the Codex against Arthur’s side.

Arthur kept one hand on Iris’s face, forcing her unfocused violet eyes to stay on him. Blood still ran from her nose in a thin line.

The pink-gold leakage rising from her skin had not stopped; it simply had nowhere to go while the barrier remained sealed, and so it swirled around them in slow, luminous currents.

Mimi manifested fully for the first time since entering the dungeon.

The small spirit appeared in the air above the open Grimoire, translucent wings beating hard, petal skirt shifting with every movement. Her usual mischievous expression was gone. She looked almost grim.

"Listen carefully, both of you," she said. Her voice carried none of its normal playful lilt. "That thing outside is not a normal dungeon boss. It is a self-sustaining nightmare complex built out of every high-intensity recording Iris forced into her book over the last few weeks. The dungeon’s ambient energy gave it a body. But the reason it is still growing — the reason every serious attack only slows it for seconds — is the continuous Eros feed coming off her."

Iris’s eyes narrowed slightly, pain and shame mixing in equal measure.

Mimi continued, flying in a tight circle around them.

"Eros mana is desire given form. Specifically, repressed, high-emotion, intimate desire. Iris has been starving the exact part of herself that her Dream Grimoire feeds on most greedily: the need to be seen, accepted, and wanted without the title, without the throne, without the perfect mask. Every time she stacked another nightmare instead of dealing with that core wound, she added pressure. Today the pressure found a crack. The entity is basically a parasite wearing her loneliness as a crown. As long as she keeps leaking, it will keep healing and escalating."

Arthur’s jaw tightened. "How do we cut the feed cleanly?"

"You already know," Mimi said. "Your Codex is designed for exactly this. Completing the circuit is the only stable way to stop an Eros-sustained manifestation of this intensity. Half-measures will only make it thrash harder. You have to give the desire a real outlet — genuine, mutual, high-emotion intimacy — so the leakage turns into a directed print instead of an open wound. Once the Codex accepts the full resonance and seals the ability, the entity loses its primary fuel source. It will still be strong. It will still try to kill you. But it will stop getting stronger every second, and it will become killable."

Iris let out a broken breath that was almost a laugh.

"So the solution to the monster made of my nightmares is to have sex in the middle of a collapsing dungeon while that thing tries to smash the barrier," she said. Her voice was hoarse. "Of course it is."

Mimi shrugged, wings flicking. "Your book, your repressed desire, your mess. The Codex just happens to be the only tool present that can fix it without killing you in the process. Also, for the record, I am maintaining a multi-layer privacy barrier that even most Tier 8 sensory techniques would bounce off of. No broadcast crystal is seeing anything. No other student is walking in on this. The only ones present are the three of us and a very angry nightmare that currently cannot get through."

Another heavy impact shook the dome. Fine cracks of darker pink raced across the inner surface and then sealed themselves as Mimi poured more energy into the construct.

Arthur looked down at Iris.

She was still kneeling, Grimoire open and trembling in front of her, uniform stained with blood and dungeon dust. The perfect princess posture had collapsed completely.

What remained was a girl who had pushed her power past every safe limit because she refused to be left behind, and who was now paying the price in the most exposed way possible.

"I need a clear answer," Arthur said quietly. "If we do this, it is not a tactic I am using on you. It is not me taking advantage of the situation. It is you choosing to let someone past the mask while the alternative is that thing finishing what it started. If you say no, I will spend every remaining drop of mana trying to cut the streams the hard way and we will probably both die here. If you say yes... then stay with me. Do not disappear into the dreams. Look at me the entire time."

Iris stared at him for several long heartbeats. The swirling pink-gold light inside the barrier painted shifting patterns across her face. Outside, the entity’s muffled roars continued without pause.

Finally she closed her eyes, then opened them again with something harder and clearer underneath the exhaustion.

"I’m tired of being the only one inside my own head," she said. The words came out raw. "I’m tired of stacking nightmares so I don’t have to admit I want something as simple as being wanted back. If this is the only way to stop that thing from wearing my loneliness like a second skin... then yes. Do it. Stay with me."

Arthur nodded once.

He reached down, gently closed the thrashing Grimoire, and set it aside on a stable patch of ground.

The moment the cover sealed, the pink-gold leakage coming off Iris flared brighter, as if the book had been partially containing what it could.

Mimi flew upward and pressed both small hands against the inner surface of the barrier, reinforcing it further.

Arthur turned back to Iris, cupped her face with both hands, and kissed her.

There was only the heat of her mouth, the copper taste of blood, the trembling of her fingers as they rose to grip the front of his torn coat, and the steady, rising resonance of the Eros Codex as it recognized a desire that had finally been allowed to surface.

Iris made a small, broken sound against his lips and leaned into him hard, as if the simple fact of being held was already rewriting something fundamental.

Arthur deepened the kiss, one hand sliding into her dark-blue hair, the other bracing her back as he carefully lowered them both fully to the ground inside the barrier. The pink-gold currents swirled faster, beginning to sink into the Codex instead of drifting aimlessly.

Outside, the Nightmare Entity slammed against the dome with renewed fury, sensing the change in the feed.

Inside, Arthur pulled back just far enough to meet Iris’s eyes.

"Stay with me," he repeated.

Iris’s answer was to pull him down again, mouth finding his with a desperate, clumsy intensity that carried weeks of stacked isolation behind it. The barrier around them glowed brighter. The Codex against Arthur’s ribs grew hot.

The only way forward had begun.
