The Lust Grimoire: I Steal Magic By Fulfilling Her Desires
Chapter 58: Futile Fight
Arthur did not wait for a better opening.
He drove forward across the shifting crater, frost exploding under every step. Absolute zero coated both arms in jagged, living armor. The moment he entered striking range he launched a dense lance of compressed cold straight at the entity’s core.
The lance punched through layers of nightmare matter, froze a wide section of the torso solid, and then shattered as the entity simply shrugged the damage aside and reformed.
The counterattack came instantly.
A massive limb of fused corridors and drowning hands swept horizontally. Arthur layered Mana Skin with a full frost shell and still barely stayed on his feet when the blow connected.
The impact threw him twenty meters across the crater. He hit a forming wall of black glass, cracked it, and slid down in a spray of ice shards and blood. Pain flared along his ribs. He ignored it and forced himself up.
The entity turned its full attention on him.
Every step it took tore the dungeon wider. New secondary limbs pushed out of its back. The violet core pulsed brighter each time another thin stream of pink-gold Eros mana left Iris’s body and sank into it.
She was still on her knees near the open Grimoire, head hanging, blood dripping steadily from her nose and mouth onto the thrashing pages. The connection between her and the monster had not thinned. If anything it had grown denser.
Arthur wiped blood from his lip and moved again.
He stopped trying to destroy the core with single heavy strikes. Instead he began cutting. Frost Sovereign at forty-three percent mastery let him generate razor-thin planes of absolute zero that sliced through nightmare matter faster than it could fully reform.
He carved off one drowning-hand cluster. Then a section of the echo-scepter arm. Then a chunk of the open throne-room torso.
Each piece fell and began melting back into the whole within seconds, but the constant damage forced the entity to spend energy on regeneration instead of growth.
It was not enough.
The monster adapted. The next sweep of its arm carried a wave of pure existential dread that bypassed physical defenses and tried to convince Arthur’s mind that standing was pointless. He staggered. Mimi’s voice cut through the mental pressure like a blade.
"Focus! That’s a fear overlay, not real. Your body is still fine. Move!"
Arthur forced a burst of cold through his own pathways, using the shock to clear his head, and rolled under the following strike.
He came up inside the entity’s reach and drove both frost-coated palms against the lower part of the core. Absolute zero poured out in a continuous stream.
For a moment the violet light dimmed. Iris cried out behind him as the Eros flow stuttered. Then the entity roared — a sound like every lonely night in the palace stacked on top of each other — and backhanded him across the crater again.
This time the landing was worse.
Arthur felt something in his left side give. He coughed blood onto the shifting ground and pushed himself up on one elbow. Mana pool readings flashed at the edge of his awareness: under fifty percent and dropping faster than he liked.
Frost Sovereign remained responsive, but the continuous high-density output was beginning to strain even his enlarged pathways.
The entity was still growing.
Every few seconds another ribbon of pink-gold light left Iris and fed the core. The monster’s silhouette had become clearer, more defined, more real.
What had started as a chaotic mass of nightmares was starting to look almost humanoid in the worst possible way — a towering, crowned figure built entirely out of the things Iris had never wanted anyone to see.
Arthur forced himself fully upright.
He could keep cutting pieces off the entity for a while longer. He could even spend Heavenfall Cyclone and buy a larger window. None of that would matter while the fuel source remained active.
The monster was not winning because it was inherently stronger than him. It was winning because Iris’s unresolved desire was giving it an infinite well to draw from.
He looked at her.
She had managed to lift her head. Violet eyes, glassy with pain and mana drain, met his across the chaos. There was no plea in them.
Only a tired, stubborn acceptance, as if she had always known her stacked nightmares would eventually demand a price and had simply hoped the price would wait until after the exam.
Arthur started walking toward her again.
The entity moved to intercept. He met the charge with a spreading field of ultra-dense frost that turned the ground into a frozen mire, slowing the massive limbs just enough for him to slip past.
A glancing blow still caught his shoulder and spun him, but he kept his feet and kept moving. Ice needles formed and launched in continuous streams, targeting the connection streams themselves.
Most of the needles passed through the pink-gold light without effect. A few disrupted the flow for fractions of a second. Each disruption made Iris gasp and the entity snarl.
Mimi spoke rapidly, all playfulness gone.
"You’re not going to sever those streams with cold. They’re Eros-sustained. Physical and elemental damage only annoys them. The only thing that can cleanly interrupt an Eros feed of this intensity is completion. You already know what that means."
Arthur reached Iris and dropped to one knee, placing his body between her and the advancing monster. Up close the leakage was even more obvious.
Pink-gold mist rose from her skin like heat shimmer, drawn inexorably toward the violet core. Her Grimoire pages had begun to blank out one by one as the nightmares stored inside them were consumed and given form.
"I can’t close it," Iris whispered. Her voice was raw. "I tried. It wants out. It wants... everything I refused to give anyone."
Arthur took her face in his frost-cold hands, forcing her to look at him instead of the entity.
"Then we give it something real instead of a wound," he said. "I’m not letting that thing finish building itself out of you."
A massive limb crashed down behind them. Arthur threw up a thick ice barrier without looking. The barrier cracked on the first hit and shattered on the second.
He was already dragging Iris backward, laying down more walls as fast as Frost Sovereign would allow. Each wall bought them two or three seconds. None of them would last.
The entity was done testing.
It raised both primary arms and began gathering a dense sphere of pure nightmare force above its crown.
The pressure in the crater spiked hard enough to make the remaining broadcast crystals in the distance simply pop out of existence. Outside, the observation halls would be seeing only deeper static.
Inside, Arthur felt the weight of an attack that would erase everything in a wide radius if it landed.
He looked at Iris, at the open Grimoire, at the pink-gold streams that refused to thin, and made the only decision that still offered a path through.
"Mimi," he said under his breath. "Barrier. Now. Maximum privacy. Maximum strength. I don’t care what it costs."
The book spirit did not argue.
A dome of layered pink-gold Eros mana snapped into existence around Arthur and Iris just as the entity’s attack began to fall. The outside world vanished behind an opaque, rippling wall of light. The sound of the dungeon cut off. The pressure lessened without disappearing completely.
Inside the sudden quiet, Iris stared at him with wide, bloodshot eyes.
Arthur kept his hands on her face.
"I’m going to cut its fuel source," he said, voice low and steady. "The only way the Codex knows how. If you tell me to stop, I stop, and we both probably die here. If you don’t... then stay with me. Don’t disappear into the dreams. Look at me."
Iris’s breathing was ragged. For several long seconds the only sound inside the barrier was the distant muffled roar of the entity trying to break through and the soft crackle of overstrained mana.
Then she gave the smallest, exhausted nod.
Arthur kissed her.
Outside the pink-gold dome the Nightmare Entity’s attack landed and erased another section of the crater.
Inside, the real fight — the one that had nothing to do with ice or force and everything to do with the desire that had built the monster in the first place — finally began.
