THE LAST KEEPER
Chapter 461: SHATTER
Inside the warm, sheltered circle of titan serpent Zaira's coils, the sleeping bodies of Squad 25 stirred in the morning light. The silver and green lines of the ground array gently faded into the frozen gravel as their spirits returned to their mortal flesh.
Lira opened her misty grey eyes first, taking a deep, sharp breath of the crisp northern mountain air. She sat up quickly, clutching the wooden shyflower pendant against her chest as her heart raced with eager anticipation.
Beside her, Kaka sat up with a loud, theatrical groan, rolling his massive shoulders until his joints popped like dry twigs. "By the northern gods! I told you that frozen gravel was giving my rear a case of frostbite!"
Kiuga opened his eyes with calm, sharp clarity, immediately reaching for his tactical scroll to verify the time. "Temporal alignment was exact. We spent eight minutes in the inner vault, and our physical vessels are completely unharmed."
Maita, Zolinka, and young Ulekai sat up alongside them, their faces bright with renewed energy. The shared knowledge of the Archive rested smoothly inside their minds, feeling as natural as their own childhood memories.
Bukata dropped to one knee beside the circle, his broad, scarred face split with a massive grin despite the heavy bandages around his cracked ribs. "You're all back... by the ancestors, you actually did it!"
"Did you doubt us for a second, big man?" Kaka laughed, punching Bukata's armored shoulder with playful affection. "Squad 25 always completes the mission!"
In the very center of the vast circular basin, the silence broke as Sagiri's fingers twitched against his knees. The last residual traces of black obsidian stone flaked away from his collar, dissolving into harmless gray dust upon the bedrock.
Sagiri opened his dual-colored eyes, his golden-amber and silver gaze shining with serene, unshakeable clarity. His breathing was deep and rhythmic, sending small, warm plumes of white vapor rising steadily into the morning chill.
He looked down at his bare forearms, seeing the elegant silver-veined runes resting peacefully beneath his skin. The Five Relics within his bloodstream hummed in flawless equilibrium, no longer tearing at his mortal frame.
Sagiri stood up from the flat stone slab with effortless grace, his boots crunching lightly against the frozen gravel. He reached behind him, wrapping his fingers around the radiant hilt of Nokai buried deep in the bedrock.
With a smooth, deliberate motion, Sagiri drew the dark master blade from the ancient stone. The silver veins along the polished steel flared with breathtaking brilliance, sending a gentle harmonic chime ringing across the entire valley.
SHRRRRR!
High overhead, the miles-wide golden crystal dome began to vibrate with soft, melodic resonance. Thousands of delicate hairline fractures spread across the smooth glass, catching the bright morning sunlight like polished diamonds.
The colossal dome did not shatter with violent concussive force; it dissolved into millions of sparkling golden snowflakes that drifted gently down through the clear mountain sky. The sparkling dust blanketed the jagged black spires and pine forests in radiant warmth, melting the harsh winter frost.
Bright, golden morning sunshine flooded into the basin for the first time in days, warming the frozen stones and illuminating the smiling faces of the rescue party. The suffocating pressure that had choked the valley vanished into the fresh mountain breeze.
Outside the basin, Marshal Salka and General Zafaru lowered their weapons, watching the golden snow fall with profound awe. Master Sandshade Koru fell to his knees in the dust, bowing his head with joyful tears streaming down his wrinkled cheeks.
"The seal is broken," N'varu whispered in disbelief, sheathing her twin scout daggers with a trembling hand. "The Living Memory has returned to the light."
Titan serpent Zaira lifted her colossal head into the sunshine, opening her jaws and releasing an earth-shaking roar of pure, unbridled joy. The mighty titan uncoiled her massive armored body and surged across the basin floor, kicking up clouds of sparkling golden snow.
She reached Sagiri in seconds, gently pressing her massive, scaly snout straight into his chest with deep, rumbling purrs. Sagiri laughed aloud, wrapping his arms around her broad snout and burying his face against her warm cheek scales.
"Good girl, Zaira," Sagiri said softly, his voice full of love and gratitude. "Thank you for holding the line. We are safe now."
Kaka, Kiuga, Lira, Kiana, Maita, Zolinka, and Ulekai ran across the gravel toward the center of the basin, their boots splashing through the melting snow. Bukata followed close behind, holding his bandaged ribs with one hand while waving his heavy gauntlet.
Kaka reached Sagiri first, grabbing him in a rough, ferocious northern bear hug that lifted him clean off the ground. "You stubborn southern brat! You actually made it back to us!"
"Put him down, Kaka, he just woke up!" Lira laughed through her tears, rushing in to throw her arms around Sagiri's neck the moment his feet touched the ground.
Sagiri held Lira tightly against his chest, feeling her soft tears soaking into his collar as his heart beat with steady, peaceful warmth. "I'm here, Lira. I'm completely fine."
Bukata hobbled up and wrapped his massive arm around both of them, his deep voice thick with emotion. "Welcome back, Chief. We kept the fire burning for you."
Kiuga, Maita, Zolinka, and Ulekai joined the embrace, piling onto their commander with loud shouts and joyful laughter. Lady Kiana stood just a few paces back, watching the boisterous northern celebration with a rare, radiant smile lighting up her elegant face.
General Zafaru walked forward alongside Master Koru, placing his right fist over his heart in deep southern warrior salute. "The Southern Host stands ready to escort our Supreme Chief back to the sunlit lands."
Marshal Salka stepped up beside them, his stern, weathered face softening into deep, proud approval as he looked down at the young cadets. "You have accomplished what no warriors in five thousand years could do. You have united the past and secured the future."
"We did it together, Marshal," Sagiri replied, looking around at his instructors, his squad, and his loyal titan beast with unyielding pride. "And now, we ride to Alika City to forge the treaty of peace."
The long, bloody trial of the Last Keeper was finally over, and the united realm of Tasaka stood ready to greet the morning sun.
