THE LAST KEEPER
Chapter 452: SQUAD ASSEMBLE
Lira’s warm emerald cellular aura flowed directly into Sagiri’s chest, melting the dark cracks along his spiritual arms and shoulders. The gentle green light pulsed in rhythm with her own heartbeat, forcing life back into his fading consciousness.
Sagiri opened his dual-colored eyes, looking up at the circle of familiar faces surrounding him on the shattered glass floor. His hand trembled as he reached out, touching the soft fabric of Lira’s sleeve to confirm she was truly there.
“You came into the Archive…” Sagiri whispered, his voice raspy and filled with disbelief. “This place is a collapsing void. You could have been trapped forever.”
“And let you die alone in the dark?” Lira replied, wiping fresh tears from her pale cheeks with a trembling smile. “We made a promise in the northern snow, Sagiri. Wherever you go, Squad 25 goes.”
Kaka stepped forward with a loud northern laugh, resting his heavy double battleaxe against the floor with a solid thud. “You think you can run away to the mountains and skip our graduation matches, Chief? Not on my watch.”
Kiuga knelt beside Sagiri, unrolling his tactical chart with calm, practiced efficiency. “Bukata is guarding our sleeping bodies on the surface alongside Marshal Salka, General Zafaru, Master Koru, and N’varu. We have an unbroken anchor on the outside.”
“How much time do we have before my mortal body completely turns to stone?” Sagiri asked, using Nokai to help push himself back onto his feet.
“Less than ten minutes,” Kiuga answered, his sharp eyes scanning the surrounding cosmic chamber. “Your physical heart is barely beating once a minute. If we don’t finish this trial and wake up soon, the crystallization will become permanent.”
As if responding to the presence of living souls, the vast chamber began to tremble with deep agitation. The dark outer walls of the hall flared with violet light as the Archive’s ancient defense protocols recognized foreign intruders.
Hundreds of spectral constructs materialized along the perimeter of the room, taking the form of armored vanguard warriors and mechanical archers from forgotten empires. Their eyes glowed with cold purple fire, and their weapons locked directly onto the squad.
“The Archive views us as a threat,” Lady Kiana announced, her dust-rose eyes glowing with bright silver light as six void needles floated around her hands. “Until Sagiri links his spirit with the radiant core, these defense formations will try to wipe us out.”
“Then we smash them into dust,” Kaka growled, rolling his broad shoulders as his twin axes caught the silver light of the chamber. “Squad 25, form up!”
“Standard Nonagon Defense Formation!” Kiuga commanded with crisp authority, stepping into the center to direct the lines. “Kaka takes point! Maita covers the blind spots! Zolinka, perimeter denial! Ulekai, energy coordination!”
The cadets moved into position with flawless academy precision, their movements refined by hundreds of hours of live combat drills. They formed a tight, impenetrable circle around Sagiri, Lira, and Kiana, leaving no open angles for the enemy.
The spectral vanguard charged across the glass floor, their heavy iron boots ringing like thunder in the vast hall. A volley of black void arrows rained down from the enemy archers, hissing through the air with lethal speed.
Kaka roared, stepping into the vanguard with ferocious northern power. He swung his right battleaxe in a wide, sweeping arc, unleashing a heavy kinetic shockwave that pulverized the front line of phantom soldiers into sparkling dust.
He spun on his heel and brought his second axe down in an overhead strike, cleaving an armored mechanical beast clean in two. “Come on, you ancient phantoms! Show me what the old empires had!”
On the left flank, Maita moved like a darting shadow, his twin daggers glowing with sharp azure energy. He slipped beneath the reach of three spear-wielding constructs, severing their energy conduits with lightning-fast cuts before vanishing into their blind spots.
Maita twisted in mid-air, deflecting a heavy broadsword with his left blade while his right dagger pierced the glowing power core of an ancient golem. The construct dissolved with a loud hiss, clearing the left path for his teammates.
On the right flank, Zolinka hurled four explosive alchemical darts into the dense clusters of phantom archers. The darts detonated with brilliant flashes of green concussive fire, scattering the enemy formations and keeping the high ground clear.
“More archers appearing on the upper ledges!” Zolinka warned, reloading his dart launcher with swift, practiced fingers. “I’m laying down a second line of suppression fire!”
Young Ulekai stood firm between the lines, using a light wooden staff to deflect stray arrows while channeling steady energy feeds to support Kaka and Maita. His face was pale with focus, but his hands never wavered.
“Energy feeds are locked and stable!” Ulekai called out, planting his staff firmly into the glass floor. “Keep pushing them back, brothers!”
“The perimeter is holding!” Kiuga reported, tracking the flow of the battle with sharp tactical calculations. “Sagiri, you have a clear path to the central core! Take Lady Kiana and Lira and begin the synthesis!”
Sagiri looked at his brothers fighting with absolute courage to protect his back, feeling a profound warmth burning away the last traces of his despair. He was no longer the lonely child hiding in the ruins of N’folu; he was a commander surrounded by brothers who would die for him.
“Lady Kiana, Lira,” Sagiri said, turning toward the two women with steady determination. “We do this together.”
Lady Kiana nodded, stepping up to his right side as her silver void needles formed an intricate geometric ring around Nokai’s blade. “The Sekana bloodline was created to pierce the void. I will open the resonance bridge to the core.”
Lira stepped to his left side, placing both of her glowing green hands directly over his heart. “My cellular aura will keep your mortal pulse tethered to the living world while you channel the energy.”
Sagiri raised Nokai, pointing the radiant, silver-veined blade directly toward the glowing crystal core in the center of the hall. The Five Relics in his blood answered the call, humming in perfect harmony with the courage of his squad.
The Golden Spear grounded their collective spirit, the Beast Horn resonated with their shared warrior cries, the Living Stone Hammer reinforced their physical defenses, and the Silver Mask guided their mental focus.
“No more isolation,” Sagiri declared, stepping toward the light as his friends held the line behind him. “We master the Living Memory as one.”
With twenty floating blades of Nokai leading the way, Sagiri, Lira, and Kiana stepped forward into the radiant aura of the core, ready to forge the new destiny of the South.
