Three photo frames, the large one in the middle shows Duan Sishu and a young man. Jiang Xun can guess that the young man is Duan Sishu’s husband. But the two individual photos on either side display one of the current Feng Nianian and the other of a boy in what appears to be a somewhat dated photo.

The boy is around ten years old and bears some resemblance to the young man. Yet, Jiang Xun has never seen or heard of him.

Duan Sishu finishes her call and walks back, seeing Jiang Xun standing in front of the television looking at the photos, she explains, "Xiaoxun, you haven’t seen them, right? That’s Nianian’s father and brother."

"Brother?" Jiang Xun looks over.

"Nianian hasn’t told you?" Duan Sishu asks.

Jiang Xun shakes his head. He has never been very interested in Feng Nianian. He only knows she has a mother named Duan Sishu, and only later learned that Duan Sishu is from the Duan Family.

As for the father, he knows he has passed away, so he never asked about him.

But as for this brother, he truly didn’t know, nor had Feng Nianian ever mentioned him.

"Alas." Duan Sishu sighs. "It’s not her fault she didn’t mention it; back then..." Duan Sishu doesn’t quite know how to describe what happened back then. The fact was, the entity inside Feng Nianian was not truly her daughter but rather an evil spirit. Because of this, she and Feng Nianian were almost estranged during those initial years.

Jiang Xun initially wasn’t very interested, but now with Duan Sishu’s hesitance, it piques his curiosity.

He asks, "Why have I never seen him?"

"He’s gone. He and Nianian were boy and girl twins. He passed away when he was ten..." Duan Sishu actually doesn’t like to talk about that past. It’s partly due to sorrow, and partly due to fear. Just thinking about having lived with such an evil spirit for years sends shivers down her spine.

"I’m sorry." Jiang Xun.

Duan Sishu waves her hand.

But because Jiang Xun brought it up, Duan Sishu can’t help but feel a surge of hatred towards Jiaojiao, angrily cursing, "It’s all Jiaojiao’s fault, that troublemaker! If not for her calling forth such a thing, my family wouldn’t have suffered such calamity, ending up like this!"

Upon hearing these words, Jiang Xun’s gaze suddenly darkens.

He mentions as if indifferent, "Jiaojiao?"

"Yes, that troublemaker! She’s a monster. If it hadn’t been for her..." Duan Sishu grows increasingly furious, almost blurting out something. But when she looks up and meets Jiang Xun’s gaze, she suddenly remembers something, her expression flusters, and she quickly covers her mouth.

These are things her daughter has instructed her never to discuss with anyone.

Seeing Duan Sishu’s clearly guilty expression, Jiang Xun’s eyes flicker. While he doesn’t care how the Feng Family used to be, when it comes to Jiaojiao, he self-destructively wants to know everything.

"I thought we were family now. It turns out mom still sees me as an outsider. I understand, I spoke out of turn." Jiang Xun says in a flat tone, but his expression is clearly somewhat hurt.

Duan Sishu bites her lip, looking at him hesitantly.

Jiang Xun lifts his head again, earnestly saying, "Mom, I now consider you all as family. If you don’t want to talk, that’s okay, I’m just a bit worried you’ve been hurt."
