The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1963: A Moment of Distraction

Chapter 1963: A Moment of Distraction

Gaining more than ten thousand divine points changed everything.

Rex could feel the change.

It’s not the same sensation that he would normally experience when he attained a breakthrough, not the same rush, but it was invigorating all the same. He could feel the shift deep inside him. Feel that every ability he possesses now carries a sharper edge against Demigods far more effectively than before.

And as this was his chance to let loose, he wanted to test it out.

Earlier, the clone that he sent to get close to the Awakened Demigods was the Damned Specter Skill.

Since the pocket dimension was dense and Rex had no authority over it, the clone was utterly visible to the naked eye, unlike how it was if he had used it in the Spirit Realm or Mortal Realm, but Rex already took this into account.

It was fine to be visible as the phantom wolves were there to distract the Awakened Demigods.

He sent it out with a purpose, and that purpose was to touch each one of them and mark them.

Mark them with the Brand of Crown to activate the King of Kings skill.

<Determining the Realm of Kings has finished!>

<Realm of Kings: Awakened Demigod>

<King of Kings skill is fully activated, and the Brand of Crown has taken effect!>

Rex hadn’t used this in a long time because he didn’t need to, because there was no reason to use it, but now that he was entrapped inside this pocket dimension with Davina and Lilliana nearby, he decided to test it out.

And it worked wonderfully.

Most of the Awakened Demigods had already been marked by the Damned Specter.

Farhan and Mayla were the ones who hadn’t been marked since Farhan had killed the Damned Specter before it could mark them, but it was fine. It was the reason why Rex made the performative gesture of eating the heart for all of them to see.

He was taunting them to attack, hoping that Farhan and Mayla would come.

And they did.

In a situation where Rex was going against people at the same level of strength as him, having Davina and Lilliana nearby would be a burden for him. Both of them barely have divinity points, so they couldn’t face these Awakened Demigods.

But the enemy also has the same weakness.

Farhan came along with his comrades, and they seemed to be like a solid unit. A family.

Now, it was only a matter of which side could protect its own better. And it seemed like Rex was that better side.

Swoosh—!

Farhan looked down and was surprised to see a glowing mark.

It was the carmine five-petaled clover mark that was identical to the ones he and the others had.

One that he and the others got temporarily from being temporary rulers of this pocket dimension.

Before their very eyes, Rex’s body unraveled into the wind—dissolving with every heartbeat, leaving only the faint afterimage of crimson eyes that lingered a moment longer, then vanished. The resistance against Farhan’s sword and Guarani’s spear slackened as flesh turned to air—and Mayla dropped into a crouch as there’s nothing more to hold onto.

Rex took advantage of their initial shock to bite into Guarani’s neck and tear out his throat.

It happened right before his body merged with the wind and shot into the vortex.

"Hargh..." Guarani dropped to one knee and held his torn neck.

He tried his best to stop the bleeding while his eyes remained alert, searching for any sign of Rex.

"How is this possible, Farhan?!" Mayla’s voice trembled in complete disbelief—as she pressed her back against Farhan’s. "How did he merge with the vortex when that ability should belong to us alone!" The hunt was supposed to be simple. A slaughter, and yet it felt like they were the ones being hunted down. "This shouldn’t be how it goes!"

"I think he absorbed Aled’s mark," Farhan replied with a deep frown.

As unbelievable as it sounds, that’s the only thing that could explain how Rex was able to do this.

And he was right.

From the first Awakened Demigod’s heart—Rex glimpsed a handful of traits he could adapt to through the Nigh-Divine Adaptation skill. He had overheard the enemy’s plan to suppress him using the pocket dimension’s innate law. So, he devoured that law as well, turning their cage into his domain, too.

He became the temporary ruler of this pocket dimension, too.

And the pocket dimension’s innate law couldn’t suppress its ruler, so he was freed.

Rex’s voice then echoed.

"Coming here was a mistake."

Farhan and Mayla snapped their heads to the right, hearing the voice coming from there.

"No hunter would strike without knowing everything about the prey."

Both of them turned to the other side.

"What did the High Lord promise you? Resources? Gratitude? Or let me guess, is it a promotion?"

Having their ambitions predicted was not a good feeling.

It made them feel like they were naked and exposed, and there’s nothing they could do to hide anything from Rex’s probing, predatory eyes. Perhaps they did come here in a rush out of the excitement of what life would be like after their promotion.

After becoming a Millinar.

But Rex shouldn’t know that, as it was humiliating on their part.

"In any case, I want to thank you. I don’t think I’ll stay sane had it not been for your foolishness.

Farhan gritted his teeth; he had had enough of this farce.

"Stay and guard Guarani," He said as he shot into the vortex to confront Rex in there.

Mayla wanted to say something, but she couldn’t as he didn’t give her a chance to respond.

"Guarani—how long are you going to stay like that?" She asked while still keeping her eyes fixated on the violently swirling vortex. "I don’t like this situation at all; we do not know anything about him. It’s going to take us working together to take him down, I’m afraid."

"It’s hard to heal it..." Guarani answered through a choked throat.

Mayla looked down at him and saw the veins around his neck already turned charcoal-black.

An intense amount of invasive energy pulsated from each vein, and it looked painful.

Really painful.

It was no wonder that it was hard to heal the torn throat.

Mayla’s gaze turned back to the vortex; she saw flashes of light strobe through the swirling wind like lightning trapped in a bottle. Two shapes blurred within. One is a phantom of dark fur, and the other is a white-ghost streak.

Both of those figures materialized and dissolved at an unbelievable speed.

Each collision produced a bright, searing flash.

Rex and Farhan were dancing between solid and wind, striking and vanishing, neither yielding ground.

Her chest tightened.

Having fought beside Farhan for years, she knew that he was strong. In fact, he might be the strongest among them, but against this monster, his power might not be sufficient. Rex had already shown how dangerous he was from the start.

It would be foolish to let him have a duel when there are still nine of them remaining.

Mayla’s eyes flicked to the space beyond the vortex.

As one of this pocket dimension’s temporary rulers, the swirling winds didn’t obscure her vision.

She could see the others still entangled with the phantom wolves outside, hacking and wrestling, making progress to victory, but far too slow. One of them had broken free and was attempting to attack the two women who were with the target.

A flicker of hope crept to her chest.

’If we could all converge, nine Awakened Demigods united against him—the tide would turn,’ Mayla’s eyes flashed with a deliberate plan. Rex had taken them by surprise, and he relied heavily on the shock factor to keep the upper hand. And this meant he was wary about being surrounded. ’But first, I need to free the others from these wolves.’

Mayla opened her mouth to inform Guarani about what she was planning to do.

But the words were caught in her throat.

Something was already right behind Guarani. No, someone. Rex.

Rex crouched behind Guarani like a gargoyle, crimson eyes peeking from Guarani’s shoulder, his lips split into a sinister smile that stretched too wide. One set of claws rested gently against Guarani’s torn throat, while the other hand gripped Guarani’s hair and wrenched it back to expose the neck in a long, pale arch.

Guarani stared at Mayla with fear in his eyes.

He opened his mouth, his voice barely a whisper as a single word slipped out.1

One that carried across the distance with the weight of a death knell.

"M-Mayla..."

"Mayla, Mayla..." Rex murmured from behind with a teasing tone. "Don’t you know that it’s very bad to turn your attention away from an enemy? Especially when you don’t know anything about the enemy, like right now."

"No, wait..." Mayla’s body froze up, but she quickly snapped into focus. "Don’t kill him!"

Surprisingly, Rex didn’t instantly kill Guarani.

He stared at Mayla, waiting for her to say something in response.

And this was perfect for her.

"Living Statue Minor Oustification: Prime and Rein!"

Out of nowhere, something invisible manifested.

Rex felt it. Felt its sharp and deadly intent slicing through the air, perceived with more clarity thanks to his elevated Divinity Points. But his eyes saw nothing. The invisible presence wasted no time in lunging straight for his face.

In the same breath, his eyes burned with a different kind of red power.

It was the Absolute Anger Effect.

Sensing the fatal danger, it flared and stopped the unseen threat mid-strike.

Its momentum was killed inches from his skull, and its invisibility was shattered, revealing a massive soldier statue holding a sharp stone sword that was frozen in a killing arc aimed directly at his face. Had it not been for the Absolute Anger Effect, his skull would’ve been split in two.

But he had it.

And in a one-on-one fight, that power let him act with a recklessness others couldn’t afford.

Mayla’s eyes widened at the sight.

Her surprise cooled into a calculation, ’He... He couldn’t sense immortal energy!’

Since Rex was most likely from another realm, as he was never seen in High Lord Rashal’s force, they should’ve anticipated that he might not be able to sense immortal energy. Only people born in the God Realm have a natural sense of it.

Demigods who ascended to the God Realm would need to learn from scratch.

And this was a fatal weakness that Mayla and the others could exploit.

Not to mention, her attack wasn’t finished.

Crack—!

The ground beneath Rex cracked open.

A spear stature erupted from the stone; its tip aimed to impale him from below.

But he sensed it, and his body already reacted.

Instead of dodging, Rex’s instincts seized a crueler path. He yanked Guarani’s head back—by the hair, wrenching his torso directly into the spear’s path. The stone head erupted through Guarani’s back and burst from his stomach in a spray of gore, lifting his body nearly off the ground.

Blood sprayed from his mouth as he coughed; the spear shaft glistening with gore.

Mayla flicked her wrist, halting the spear’s ascent before it could drive higher.

But the damage was already done.

Guarani hung there, impaled from behind as his blood dripped down the stone shaft.

"Careful there," Rex said as he patted Guarani’s cheek condescendingly—he grinned at Mayla for her cheap effort. "You should be really careful when attacking. Look at what you did, you almost killed your own comrade!"

Mayla could feel a shiver run down her spine.

Had she not reacted quickly, the stone spear would’ve impaled Guarani through.

"B-Bastard..." Guarani whispered as he glared at Rex.

"Oh, still kicking, I see," Rex tilted his head and smirked deviously. He wasted no time and tore through Guarani’s throat with his claws before another curse came out of that filthy mouth. The claws sank deep, past flesh and artery, until they wrapped around the cervical spine.

He made sure to look at Mayla before he twisted.

Crack—!

A loud snapping sound echoed, and Guarani’s body went slack at the same instant.

Rex snapped his spine before he could say anything more, and before Mayla could draw another breath.

Everything had happened so fast.

Just a single, fatal distraction caused Guarani’s death.
