Chapter 1877: Exciting Day
Chapter 1877: Exciting Day
Rex sat down on the sofa and reclined his head back.
He closes his eyes and rests.
Breathe in. Breathe out. Going in and out of different realms doesn’t feel good at all. He wasn’t impaired in any meaningful way—but there was this uncomfortable feeling inside him. It was akin to a far worse version of jet lag.
Even though he wanted to keep going, there was no saying when he could get this peace again.
Just earlier, he visited High Lord Rashal’s office once again.
He wasn’t there, which was a bummer, but he got help from a few people regarding the assassins who were sent to kill him. Since he is going to represent High Lord Rashal in some way that he still does not know until now, an attack on him should also be an attack on the High Lord.
And the people there agreed.
After inspecting Shadow’s clothes and blood, the organization behind him was immediately verified.
However, Rex was in bad luck.
The organization behind Shadow is a notorious clan that hasn’t been identified.
Not that this was the first time their lethal hands reached the public, but because it was hard to find any information about the organization All the captured assassins killed themselves, and those who couldn’t kill themselves had no idea about this organization.
Either the assassins’ memories were tampered with, or the organization simply didn’t directly contact them.
After hours, he returned without learning much.
Rex got nothing from Jessie, so he was hoping to get something from the High Lord’s Office.
But the people there also couldn’t give him more information.
He did get the million-year-old ronan pill.
Since the organization is specialized in assassination, all assassins excelled in poison, and this million-year-old ronan pill could neutralize many deadly poisons—that could even make a four-star Awakened Demigod succumb to death.
It’s a life-saving pill.
Along the way, Rex also tested the spies who were following him.
He thought he could outrun them or maneuver out of their sights, but he was wrong.
All of the spies could use short-range teleportation at will, frequently, and left no ripple in the air. They tracked him effortlessly through the densest crowd. Rex only found one thing that worked on them, and it was being in an enclosed space.
Some of the spies were late in locating him when he walked out of the High Lord’s Office through the second entrance.
Rex got a good minute window before the spies found him again.
Now, he was back in his penthouse.
Even while he tried to rest with his eyes closed, his mind kept solving puzzles without his permission.
I already have enough on my plate with my enemies, and now, I have another one.
He tapped his foot against the soft carpet impatiently, annoyed that everything seemed to be against him, like he was the world’s number one enemy. I came to the Silverstar Genesis to deal with my problems. Address Evelyn and Gistella. Yet I have more things to address now.
Other than the assassins, Rex now also needed to meet with Aylith.
But with the High Lord and the assassin organization looming over him, it’s going to be hard.
It’s about time something good appears.
Rex watched the sun going down through the glass wall, allowing his mind to go blank for a minute.
Just then, he sensed someone approaching his room.
And soon enough, the sound of the lock opening with a beep resounded, which made it clear who this person was. Either Davina or Lilliana. But since her steps are loud and heavy, it’s got to be Davina. But the steps aren’t as loud as normal. What makes her so happy?
“What is that?” Davina stopped by the hall, staring at the open portal.
“Just a portal to my realm,” Rex waved his hand and drank water from his glass. “Don’t mind it.”
She walked over and sat beside him on the sofa.
But her eyes were still fixated on the portal, looking through it at the vast blank expanse with a swirl of sparkling energy at the center. Davina pointed at the two women in the distance. “Is that…?” She turned to Rex. “Yours?”
“Yes. Evelyn and Gistella.”
“Which one of them carries your child?”
“Why would you want to know that?” Rex raised a brow in confusion—but she insisted by narrowing her eyes. “Neither. That one is still in the Mortal Realm. She’s having a rough pregnancy since her race could only get pregnant once.”
Davina made a circle with her lips and nodded.
It wasn’t surprising for her to learn that the portal led to Rex’s own personal realm.
Ever since Rex came into her life, everything seemed to be possible, and this was the same thing.
She then pointed at herself, “Should I go there and say hi?”
“Later, when I’m in the mood,” Rex rubbed his face with both hands and stretched. “They can’t see us from there. The God Realm doesn’t allow itself to be seen from a lesser realm like mine. Besides, they’re busy right now.”
Since that was the case, Davina wouldn’t insist.
“Come look. I have something to show you,” She got down from the sofa to her knees on the floor, then placed a spherical object onto the glass table. It was an intricate pale green compass, with sharp edges. Davina tapped it, and light blossomed from the top. “One of my new friends gave it to me.”
“Is that so?” Rex leaned forward and watched as the light formed what seemed to be a family tree.
But it wasn’t a family tree, but a governance tree instead.
At the very top are three boxes that branched down to multiple roots.
“Here in Larta City,” Davina pointed at the top three boxes. “There are three known powerful families. High Lord Rashal came from the Drowe Family, which owned multiple businesses, with the biggest one being in the private security industry that also offers realm insurance. It’s a privilege from his status as the High Lord.
“As for the direct rival of the Drowe Family, it’s the Montclair Family,” She gestured to another box.
Rex listened to what she was saying.
Since Enforcer Vadyn is his cousin, he already knows that he came from the Drowe Family.
But the businesses that the Drowe Family went into, along with their rival, is new information.
Davina continued to explain about the Montclair Family, and then the family members of both families that sat at the position of power, which were the executive ministries. But the only ones he needed to keep a lookout for were those with immense individual strength.
Considering it had only been a few days, this much information was incredible.
Seems like bringing Davina and Lilliana was the right thing to do.
Rex wouldn’t be able to do what they did.
He absorbed everything Davina said and then leaned back when she finished.
Or at least he thought she was finished, but it was only the first part.
“Also, my new friends brought me to a place called a mall,” Davina continued. Her eyes were sparkling as she recounted her exciting experience. “Everything is made of glass and lights. Lots of lights. And it smells so good and refreshing in there. The only strange part is that people walk right past without even saying hello.”
“Really?” Rex listened to her with a small smile, caressing her cheek as she spoke.
“Yes!” Davina nodded, her excitement spilling over. “Oh, I went to the bookstores, and they have a lot of spellbooks in there for anyone to buy. How is that even possible? I would’ve kept them all if I had them. And the food. God, the good! What is it called? The one on a cone and cold.”
“Ice cream.”
“Yeah, ice cream! I got the vanilla with chocolate sprinkles on top—”
Davina kept going, recounting how the places were all neat and tidy. Filled with machines that she had never seen before. And there were also entertainments that she had never even thought about. Nothing in the Spirit Realm was modern, so everything was new for her.
But somewhere along the way, she noticed Rex was listening to her.
He was only staring at her while still caressing her cheek with the back of his hand.
“Are you even listening to me?” She asked.
“Yes,” Rex answered without thinking much.
It was a blatant lie, and Davina could tell.
“Seems like your days aren’t as exciting as mine,” She said with a teasing smile.
Even without needing Rex to say anything, she could already tell that he had had a stressful day.
“That depends on how you measure excitement,” He chuckled lightly.
Considering that he had met with Evelyn and Gistella and spent time with them to satiate his longing, and then survived an assassination, some might say that his day was more exciting. But then again, it’s normal for him.
Personally, listening to Davina rant like this is more exciting for him than surviving an assassination.
“Should I ask how your day was?” She leaned in—and pointed at Rex’s forehead. “And help you think about the problems you’re thinking right now?”
“No,” Rex smiled a little. “That’ll ruin the mood. Let’s talk about where you ditched your sister.”
Davina rolled her eyes and turned away.
Even though she had been sounding excited and was genuinely excited, Rex could sniff that she was trying to distract his mind. It was obvious that she wanted to spend some time alone with him. To do that, she needed to get rid of Lilliana first.
“Why are you thinking about her, anyway?” She crossed her arms. “Is she always in your mind?”
“No,” Rex leaned forward. “But I would notice when she’s not around, like I would if you’re not around. So, tell me, where did you leave her?”
It’s a new place, but Rex wasn’t really worried about Lilliana.
No chance that Davina would leave her in a dangerous place, as she wouldn’t do that to her own sister.
“We got to know a few people who are a part of this close-friend group,” Davina sighed. Seems like distracting Rex is harder than she thought it would. “And then there’s this guy, Aaran, who really likes her. I kept encouraging him to pursue her to annoy her. The group must still be in the mall right now.”
She snapped her gaze back at Rex, “I’m sure she’s fine. We promised to meet up again later tonight. I made a deal with Aaran that I’ll get out of his hair for a few hours in exchange for him telling me how to go back to the Cavity without official channels.
“It’s fine… right?” She asked whisperingly.
Throughout saying that, her hawk eyes were inspecting Rex’s face attentively.
Is she trying to see whether I’d get angry because Lilliana got close to this guy?
Rex smiled acutely inside.
He tried to keep a straight face, but Davina’s intense gaze made him uncomfortable.
It was like she was trying to look through him.
“Ekhmm,” He cleared his throat. “Of course. I can wait a few hours.”
Despite wanting to see if Lilliana was fine or not, Rex couldn’t think of any excuse since Davina even remembered to find a way to the Cavity so that they could meet with Zev again. Saying anything other than okay right now would’ve made her explode.
So, Rex kept his mouth shut.
Just hang on for a bit, Lilliana.
Hours later.
Rex and Davina spent the hours watching a movie on TV.
She asked what a normal couple from his world normally does, so they ended up watching a movie.
Once the sun had set and the hour of the meeting drew near, Rex and Davina hailed a taxi and headed for the mall. The roads were strangely clear, yet Rex found himself fighting to stay calm. Not because he was worried about this man, Aaran, hitting on Lilliana.
But because he was worried Lilliana would be overly stimulated.
If she gets angry, then something bad will happen.
And along the way, what Rex feared to happen happened.
<Notice: the user’s pack member, Lilliana’s berserk stat is nearing berserk range!>
“Shit…”
