The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1706: Impossible Trial (1)

Chapter 1706: Impossible Trial (1)

Princess Davina was determined to help.

But she wasn’t suicidal.

At her current state, she wouldn’t be able to provide Rex a meaningful help while risking her own life in the process. Being stubborn and staying behind would be a dumb thing to do—Princess Davina knew that, so she’s going to take a step back.

She knows her limits.

Even so, her body wasn’t listening to her.

Rex glanced at her, noting that she hadn’t gone away.

Such a baby. Is she the same cold and strong-willed princess I met?

Princess Davina said that she wouldn’t try to stop him, but it was clear that she was still hesitating.

And though her mind most of the time was hard to read, this time, Rex knew what she was thinking.

She only needed a bit more assurance beyond words.

Princess Davina froze the moment a warm yet rough hand rested atop her head.

For an instant, the world fell silent as she raised her gaze to look at her supposed fiancé—Rex’s touch was tender, almost reverent—assuring her that everything was going to be fine without uttering a single word.

Her lips parted, but no sound came out.

Inside her chest, her heart ached from the sudden rush of emotions she didn’t quite understand.

Fear, comfort, and something dangerously close to attachment or perhaps deeper.

“Go.” Rex’s baritone voice echoed again.

Princess Davina turned, summoned her Soul Artifact, and flew out of the fissure.

Once she was on the move, her focus immediately returned—as she blasted away, heading straight to where Althea and April were. Going in the other direction was easier, and before long, she arrived and immediately grabbed hold of April.

“Come on, we have to leave.” Princess Davina said and brought April away.

Althea, confused, chased from behind, “What’s wrong? Where is Rex?”

“He’s going to challenge the next trial.”

“Challenge the next trial? Wait… Doesn’t that mean he’s going to face the hardest trial?!”

Fundamental Niches, Coffins of the Drowned, Long-Lost Catacombs, Mausoleums of the Stars, and the Crypt of Nature were all the trials Rex had successfully gone through. Anything beyond that would be the strongest rank for an Echo.

Be it the trial from the Throne of Laws, Apocalyptic Beasts, or Altar of Gods, all three are the strongest.

And from what Althea knew, the last person to create an Original Echo of this magnitude—lived in the ancient past. Judging from Princess Davina’s expression right now, Althea was quite sure that this was the truth.

Nobody alive or recently alive could reach this rank.

Some tried, but all failed.

“Aren’t you supposed to be stopping him?” Althea asked in disbelief. “He’s going to die! What makes you think he can survive this trial—when others couldn’t even come close? What are you thinking? Tell him to surrender and be happy with what he has.”

“His ambition is so strong that I can’t help but believe he could.”

“You’re basing your actions on emotions?”

“No, I’m basing my actions on reality,” Princess Davina turned towards Althea, a smile tugging her lips. “He’s merely a Master Immortal Spirit, and yet he has single-handedly shown feats far surpassing those above him. I’m not stopping him because he simply never disappoints. If anyone could go through this impossible trial, it’s him.”

“How about it, Althea?” She taunted. “Does my fiancé still seem ordinary now?”

Althea was taken aback by this provocation.

She recalled how she ridiculed Rex before this mission started, and that made her face flush red.

It was embarrassing to think that she was saved by the very man she looked down on.

“Whatever… Let’s focus on getting out of here.”

Princess Davina and Althea blasted forward, going as far away as possible from where Rex was.

Expecting the next trial to be on a whole other level, a mile is too close.

Maybe ten miles or maybe more would be sufficient.

On the other hand, inside the fissure, Rex stared at the holographic notification before his eyes.

<Does the user want to proceed to the next rank or surrender here?>

<Yes or No>

“Sigh… Somehow, I remembered the others—back in the Mortal Realm,” Rex cackled slightly, staring at the options before him. “I know Adhara went berserk, but she managed to handle it on her own. I’m impressed. As for the others, I wonder what they were doing right now?”

Recalling how abrupt his departure was, there was a big chance that the others were sulking right now.

Since it had only been a few days in the Mortal Realm, nothing big should have happened.

He left when he deemed the situation was stable enough, so the others should be doing fine.

Princess Davina’s words earlier echoed inside the chamber of his mind, telling him that his life wasn’t only his, that it was hers too. He reckoned the others also felt the same way as her, but he was too busy with everything around him to care.

But now, he swore that he’ll also recover their feelings.

It wasn’t only him who was worried about their safety, but they also worried about his safety.

And he needed to acknowledge that.

Inhaling deeply, Rex eventually focused again, “Yes…”

<Affirmative.>

<Altar of Gods trial is commencing…>

Seeing the notification, Rex settled in his heart that there was no going back.

It was do or die right now.

As expected, since it involved the Blood Moon, the next trial would come from the Altar of Gods.

“Hmm, this is not good news.” Rex looked down at his hands—and found that all his powers that were heavily suppressed earlier were returning. His life energy, voidal energy, and also laws returned for him to use. “It’s that hard, huh…”

Earlier, he could only use the skills from the System or the skills from his Werewolf side.

In hindsight, now that he could use everything he has again, enduring the trial should be easier.

But it’s the opposite.

Rex understood this was the way the trial was saying that it would take all of him endure this.

“In that case…”

BOOM!!

Deciding to go all-out from the very start, Rex immediately activated everything that he had.

A shockwave exploded from him, cracking and peeling the ground for miles.

His aura skyrocketed like a crimson pillar that stabbed through the heavens.

Rex curled like a ball, hugging his own body as power surged inside, causing his flesh to wobble like it was a few seconds away from exploding. Once he was ready, he opened his frame and unleashed a howl that reached further than even his shockwave could react.

Roar!!

It was the Silverstar Howl, pushing his physical prowess past its limit.

Even Princess Davina and Althea could feel and hear the howl.

And that marked the start of the trial, forcing them to move away even faster.

Above, the moonlight that came from the Blood Moon pushed away the Black Rift, creating a clearing in the sky. Now, Rex and the Blood Moon were staring at each other directly—without any obstruction, without any disturbance from external factors.

“Kaiser!!” Rex roared thunderously, scratching his bare skin like a feral animal. “Your chance to redeem yourself has come!”

His left eye then turned into the color of molten lava as the Invincible Apparition also came out.

“Attack me!!” The Invincible Apparition added.

Boom!

Due to the direct involvement of the Lunirich Gods back—in the Mortal Realm, the Lunirich Gods were punished by a higher power—and couldn’t lay their hands on Rex for the time being. Right now, that limitation was overruled.

It was Rex who invited Kaiser to make his move through this trial.

And Kaiser would certainly use this moment to the best of his ability.

Rumble!

Rex snapped his gaze and looked around.

He saw rubble begin to float, almost like someone was tampering with gravity.

Each fragment of rubble, be it large or small, was pulled upward toward the Blood Moon, tearing free from the earth with deafening force. Even the ground beneath Rex’s feet began to crumble, forcing him into constant motion.

Rex leapt left and right, bounded off the splintering terrain as the pull grew stronger with each second.

It was as if the world itself seemed to invert, gravity twisted under the Blood Moon’s call.

And when Rex vaulted away one last time, somersaulting and landing perfectly on his feet, he raised his gaze only to find a breathtaking scene. Every shard of stone had merged into a colossal sphere that suspended in the sky.

Its sheer size eclipsed the Blood Moon, drowning the land beneath its shadow for miles.

Rex froze mid-breath.

His instincts screamed danger, overwhelming and absolute.

A warning that was similar to when he met the Fifthborn for the first time—absolute death.

But instead of fear, he became more primal.

His muscles coiled, claws dug into the trembling ground, and his mismatched eyes—one crimson, the other a searing molten gold—bulged with feral madness. His fangs bared, a snarl tore through his throat as he accepted the challenge willingly.

Beside him, the Doll Head of Sonanta’s melody seeped into his ears.

A haunting tune that stoked the fury in Rex’s veins.

Rex’s aura flared, his strength spiked, and his roar ripped through the rising storm like a beast defying the will of heaven.

Then—silence.

Out of nowhere, the air stilled.

The hum of power and the tremors beneath his feet were all muted in an instant.

Above him, the massive sphere pulsed once, twice… then erupted with a crimson flare.

Each stone comprising this massive sphere bled, and soon, the earthy color was replaced—by a dark, viscous red that shimmered like congealed blood under the moonlight. The boulder, as big as a regular-sized kingdom, was transformed into a colossal living mass of blood.

Ready to fall upon the world below.

Rex immediately felt the pressure that weighed down on his shoulders.

But he was ready.

NGOONG!

Giving no time to prepare, the blood sphere moved.

It trembled for a second before it began to descend, shaking the entire world under its might.

Even though the pressure was heavy already, the moment the blood sphere began to move—the pressure grew exponentially heavier. Rex needed to grit his teeth—and exert everything he had to stay standing, and that was not a good sign.

“Krggkk!”

A painful grunt tore his throat as he looked skyward.

Such heavy pressure strained his neck and spine, but he forced himself to stare at it.

Preparing for impact, Rex summoned his Soul Artifacts, the Red Dawn of Kaiser and the Aegis of Moon Sentinel. He immediately cast the Perfect Beast to enhance his physical power, allowing him to stay standing better.

Golden exoskeleton draped across his body, a loose being, heightening his aura.

I need to chip on its strength.

Once he regained his balance, he called forth the Law of Misdirection and the Law of Inevitability.

Behind him, the golden halo hummed with power and channeled the Law of Misdirection’s power.

Rex opened his maw as a yellow energy ball formed, and without hesitation, he fired it.

Boom!

A brilliant yellow beam burst forth like a bullet, heading straight to the blood sphere.

Instead of colliding with it, the yellow beam splashed—its essence spread far and wide, creating a faint yellow barrier that only Rex could see from afar. Before colliding with him, the blood sphere would be going through that first, where its power would be scattered everywhere.

Of course, it wouldn’t stop it, but it would certainly lessen the energy contained within it.

Crack!

Rex’s ankle broke, forcing him to his knee and catching him off guard.

He growled angrily as his regeneration fixed his broken ankle.

But standing up was harder now that he was on his knees.

Needing help, Rex now channeled the Law of Inevitability through the Red Dawn of Kaiser.

A brush of his claws formed a dark red barrier, easing the pressure that was weighing him down.

And with it, Rex was barely able to climb back to his feet again.

But the moment is not done.
