Chapter 1629: Rushing Through Hordes
Chapter 1629: Rushing Through Hordes
“Captain!”
Once the crisis was settled, the Seeker, along with a few soldiers, searched for the captain.
It took them a moment until they found the captain—who turns out to be buried underneath the rubble near the outer ring. He was wounded from top to bottom. Multiple bone fractures and lacerations, ones that made sure he wouldn’t be able to recover to full at least for a month, even with the help of healers.
A few soldiers lifted the heavy boulders while the Seeker pulled the captain out.
She then knelt down and checked his vitality, making sure that he was still alive and breathing.
“He’s alive…” She sighed in relief.
Moments later.
With the help of a healer, the captain finally regained his consciousness—and was now sitting on the side, watching the soldiers help those who were in need. He was knocked out from crashing onto the outer ring and didn’t see what happened.
He thought that he had died.
Even if he were somehow alive through that, he would wake up to a destroyed bubble.
But he was completely wrong.
Not only did the bubble survive, but even the casualties were incredibly minuscule.
About a hundred soldiers and a few hundred civilians died.
Considering that the Special Voidal Knight was able to get in through the outer ring, he expected the casualties to reach the four-digit mark. Heck, he wouldn’t even be surprised if it was substantially higher than that.
But only a few hundred died.
“How is that possible…? One man did this?” He muttered inwardly.
From the Seeker earlier, she said that an unknown figure from the House of Castillon came to help.
At first, the captain thought that this figure must be at least at the Eternal Spirit rank or even higher, but he was nothing more than a Master Immortal Spirit. It was hard to believe that a man at that rank could handle the situation this effectively.
It was hard to refute if all of them said the same thing.
Other than the Seeker, the soldiers also confessed the same thing.
Grunting heavily, the captain climbed to his feet and began treading slowly towards the battlefield with the help of a guard. He reached the bloody spot at the center of the plain, which was the spot that stood out the most.
So much blood was spilled here, which could only come from the Special Voidal Knight.
Noticing him nearby, the Seeker descended and landed beside him.
“He was in trouble when the Special Voidal Knight ate him, but he got out. Then, he suddenly flared his aura and suppressed everyone around him. None of the soldiers, and also I, could see how he killed the Special Voidal Knight,” She said, looking at the bloodied spot as a shiver ran down her spine. “He’s incredibly strong for a Master Immortal Spirit, perhaps unmatched among his peers.”
“House of Castillon, right? He might be the fiancé.”
“Hmm?! You mean Princess Davina’s fiancé?”
“Yes, he’s probably the person who rescued us.”
Considering that none of them recognized who he was, it could only be someone new.
And the only new member of the House of Castillon is the princess’ fiancé.
Looking back ahead, the Seeker crossed her arms over her chest and shook her head, “If that’s the case, then the princess chose the right person. Can you even imagine how strong he would be once he reached the Eternal Spirit rank, Master Eternal Spirit rank—or even Divine Spirit rank? He’ll be invincible! He might even help the empire suppress the other superpowers.”
“A Special Voidal Knight was afraid of him. Once he reached the Divine Spirit rank, even Voidal Lords and Princes wouldn’t dare to cross with him,” She added—eyes glistening with admiration. “He could be a monster of our own.”
Hearing this, the captain chuckled.
It wasn’t that simple.
“Do you think there’s no other special person or monster out there? But I agree—that the princess made the right decision.” He then frowned—recalling something. “Where’s the carcass? If the Special Voidal Knight was defeated, where is it?”
“It was hard to see, but I reckoned he decapitated its head and stashed the remaining carcass in a spatial storage.” The Seeker shrugged—it was hard to look toward Rex, but she could glance at him. “He must want it as a reward for helping us.”
“Decapitate it?” The captain looked at her and frowned. “Why would he do that?”
Upon hearing this, the Seeker cracked a mysterious smile.
Instead of answering, she headed for where the breach was earlier, “Come with me if you want to know.”
Once the two reached where the breach was supposedly, the Seeker pointed out.
Seeing this, the captain looked out toward the Black Rift and vaguely made up a silhouette outside.
It was unmoving, so it must be an inanimate object—a boulder perhaps.
“What is it? I can’t really see properly, unlike you.”
“What else would I bring you here for?”
As soon as the Seeker said that, the captain’s eyes widened as his breath was caught in his throat.
He looked out at the Black Rift, turned to the Seeker, and then back out again.
“Wait… That’s the Special Voidal Knight’s head?” He asked incredulously.
“Yes,” the Seeker nodded firmly. “He managed to patch the breach—temporarily, I don’t know how—and left the serpent’s severed head right outside as a warning. I received word from our neighbors; they were under attack, too. Looks like there are more Voidal monsters out there, and Mr. Fiancé placed that head to deter any rogues from coming our way.”
All the pain that the captain felt right now suddenly disappeared when he heard that.
He looked outside in complete shock.
Initially, he thought that the serpent’s head was taken away as a trophy.
A Master Immortal Spirit rank killing a Special Voidal Knight of the same rank would certainly serve as a pleasant meal-talk. Any noble, especially the younger ones, would certainly want a trophy to boast to their peers.
But that wasn’t what happened at all.
He didn’t expect Rex to do something so terror-striking like this.
Planting the head of a Special Voidal Knight at their doorstep would certainly scare the voidal monsters that were around. Some might not be deterred, especially the stronger ones—but this is still way better than nothing.
However, what shocked the captain the most was the simple fact that Rex actually thought of doing this.
As a noble, their methods are usually dignified.
No nobles would’ve thought to do something as barbaric as this, and that’s precisely why the voidal monsters would be scared away since this is surely their first time seeing something like this. Born from a new Voidal Monarch meant they were a few days old at most.
Rex took that into account and decided to do this.
He showed them the horror of crossing against spirits, and that’d go well to the future.
He gave them a glimpse of the horror that came from defying spirits.
A lesson that would echo long into the future.
“He’s scarily effective… I think the empire would be in an uproar soon.”
…
Rex wasted no time and bolted out of the Insarka Bubble.
He didn’t bask in his victory or even catch his breath; he headed straight towards the neighboring bubbles.
Killing the first Special Voidal Knight was only the beginning; his task wasn’t done.
Since he killed one out of the three Special Voidal Knights, there are still two more of them, and they were surely attacking the other bubbles. He scanned the bubble earlier and found that the casualties from the Insarka Bubble alone reached three hundred.
Rex was only a moment too late, and the casualties reached that high.
He was worried that the other bubbles would have it worse.
Glancing towards the distant Lilyang Mountain, Rex’s eyes narrowed as the horde nearly crested the summit completely. I need to head back. Who knows what he’s planned after this? Tch. I’m stronger, but I really underestimated him.
Fighting Haxel head-on, Rex was confident of his victory.
No doubt in his mind.
But he underestimated Haxel’s preparations for this mission.
Since Haxel was completely confident in himself, Rex should’ve anticipated his preparations.
Rex overestimated Empress Morgana and Rick by assuming the fixed road was kept a secret perfectly.
He failed to consider the sheer number of spies hidden throughout the Royal Bubble—nothing stayed secret for long. Even the brief meeting he had with Rick had already been anticipated by several spies, and that alone should’ve made him realize the extent of their reaction.
Something as big as the fixed path for this mission would certainly slip out one way or another.
Gritting his teeth, Rex picked up his pace.
On this side of the mountain, there are four low-priority bubbles.
All of them are relatively close to reach the other, which means the Special Voidal Knights and the separated part of the horde might be attacking one bubble hard. Rex was actually hoping that was the case, as that would significantly save him time.
Upon arriving at the neighboring bubble, Rex’s eyes gleamed—the number of Voidal Monsters there, swarming through the breach, was double, perhaps even triple, that of the horde assaulting the Insarka Bubble from earlier.
It was likely that two of the three Special Voidal Knights were targeting this bubble together.
<Scanning…>
<Casualty count: 1,100 lives.>
<All casualties stemmed from the defending soldiers.>
Rex nodded his head as the soldiers were doing a great job stalling for him.
It had taken only a few minutes to reach the neighboring bubble, and factoring in his fierce battle with the serpent, the soldiers here must have been holding back the horde for nearly ten minutes already. It was a miracle they had suffered so few losses.
Despite the wounds that he suffered from the battle earlier, Rex didn’t slow down at all.
His body sucked in the voidal energy around him and stitched his wounds rapidly.
Kraken was inside him, and the Black Rift had less effect on him than on normal spirits.
Swoosh!
From behind the horde, Rex flared his claws and began to slaughter each Voidal Monster mercilessly.
Not expecting to be flanked, the horde offered little to no resistance before Rex’s claws ended their lives with brutal arcs. Rapidly, carcasses began to pile all around him—and the horde’s attention was split between two sides.
“Stand your ground!” Another captain of the bubble, a woman draped in full armor and blue cloak, said with fervor as she sliced three Voidal Monsters with a single swing. “Keep fighting until your last breath. No surrender!”
Hearing this, the soldiers pushed forward with their shields, straining their wounded bodies further.
All of them were exhausted, but somehow, the Voidal Monsters were pushed back.
Voidal Monsters possessed near-limitless stamina within the Black Rift, so the soldiers were caught off guard when they managed to push the creature back—especially considering they had struggled to hold the line even at their peak strength.
Surely, something happened, or else the pressure on them wouldn’t lessen like this.
On the other hand, the captain also noticed the change.
From her elevated vantage point, now standing on higher ground, she noticed absolute chaos erupting at the rear of the horde. The Voidal Monsters there appeared to be attaching something or someone, but she couldn’t make out what it was through the dense swarm of writhing bodies.
But then, her eyes widened when a violent shockwave exploded.
All Voidal Monsters at that particular spot were ground into chunks of meat, killed in an instant.
It revealed a Demonic Spirit equipped with furs, fangs, and claws.
One that emanated the intense heat of combat prowess, seemingly the sole cause of the absolute chaos.
“Who is that…?” The captain muttered in shock.
However, before she could even process what she was seeing, the Demonic Spirit had already made a leap, whirling through the air, passing over the horde that was now already less crowded than before. In the minute he ransacked from the rear, a third of the horde was taken out.
Instinctively, the captain’s eyes followed the Demonic Spirit.
She was stunned in the next second when he went straight for the Special Voidal Knight.
“Is he crazy…?”
