Chapter 1628: Feared Shadow
Chapter 1628: Feared Shadow
Clawing out of the serpent’s stomach was incredibly hard to do.
Not only was the flesh nearly as tough as stone, but there was also the adder layer of scaled armor, and the insides were slick and slippery. Even with claws as sharp as Rex’s, he couldn’t quite pierce through to tear an opening.
One that he could tear open wider and burst out.
Swallowing its enemy would prove to be useful, especially one like Rex, who relies on his physique.
In normal circumstances, the enemy would be helpless and digested.
But Rex was no normal enemy.
Possessing a very high-grade Soul Artifact came with its benefits, and one of them was the power of law.
Rex used the Minor Law of Inevitability to make it inevitable that his claws pierced through, and once the hardest part was done, clawing his way out was not a problem. Above all, he was confident in his raw strength more than anything.
And now, he was out.
“I’ll show you who can devour who!”
None could hear what Rex was saying with the commotion the serpent was making.
None of the soldiers could hear a single word that came out of his mouth.
But all of them could see how feral and menacing this member of the House of Castillon was.
“Are there even someone close to the duke that’s known to be wild like this?”
“No, I don’t think so. I’ve never heard of one.”
“Then who is he?”
“Regardless of who he is, I’m glad that he’s on our side. Look…”
Pointing at the Special Voidal Knight, the soldiers’ mouths were agape as they could clearly see fear in its eyes. A Voidal Knight as powerful as this serpent actually showed fear—an emotion that was utterly uncharacteristic for a monster born of the void.
Something about Rex had shaken it.
Perhaps what he roared earlier—the soldiers could only use their fantasy to fill in the blanks.
Sensing the dangerous aura coming from Rex, the Special Voidal Knight wrapped its body around Rex, using the oldest trick in the serpentes family to coil around its prey and squeezed hard with its muscles, crushing the prey to death.
Rex was struggling to push himself out as his entire body was squeezed hard.
He seemed to have something in mind, but was distracted, unable to fully do what he wanted.
All of the soldiers could see that he was holding back.
Just then, to their surprise, Rex’s crimson eyes shifted toward them.
Despite being in the process of being crushed to death, his attention turned towards the soldiers.
Swish!
Rex’s crimson eyes flared.
Both were glowing subtly a second ago, but escalated into a blinding radiance in an instant.
It cuts through the entire area like crimson stars, catching the soldiers off guard.
A pulse followed right after, it was invisible—and absolute, rippling out from his eyes in a sudden ring of raw, unfiltered power. Almost as if Rex had gathered every ounce of power he had into his eyes to blind everyone around him.
So much so that the air changed.
It struck like a shockwave—silent, quick, and suffocating.
At first, it caused the vision to throb and blur, but the effect rapidly grew.
Every soldier caught within the expanding ring froze as if shackled by something tangible, chained in place. Their thoughts stalled. Their bodies stiffened. Breaths came shallow—lungs refusing to properly expand, as if the very atmosphere around them had thickened into thick, smoldering smoke.
All of them gasped and faltered.
Some clutched at their throats.
Others staggered back, eyes wild, knees buckling beneath them as if their bodies grew heavier.
“Is this his aura? An aura of a Master Immortal Spirit?!”
“How can a Master Immortal Spirit’s aura be this oppressive and strong…?”
“This is insane. Nobody at his rank should be this powerful!”
Each one of them was at the Immortal Spirit rank and below, and they were instantly overwhelmed by it, reduced to gasping husks as their minds reeled under the oppressive weight of Rex’s unleashed aura, one that he deliberately exposed.
Nobody could see what he was about to do.
All of them were forced to their knees and bowed their heads.
Being in his Werewolf form was already risky enough, but what he was about to do was worse.
Once the soldiers were disoriented, malice settled in.
It glistened in Rex’s eyes like molten gold—cold and merciless.
Rex turned his attention back to the hissing Special Voidal Knight and summoned his Aegis of Moon Sentinel. A golden ring shimmered into existence, and in a blink, it zipped through the air, whistling as it arced like judgment itself toward the massive serpent’s throat.
Slash!
A clean slice.
It tore through the Special Voidal Knight’s neck and traced a shallow but long bloody line.
As the serpent spasmed in pain, hissing in anger and pain, Rex’s body detonated with a burst of brilliant red life energy—forcing apart the tightening coils that had held him in place. Freed, he wasted no time pulling himself out and stood on the serpent’s body.
Glancing over his shoulder, he bared his fangs at the entry wound he came out of.
Maybe because of his current form, but the blood and flesh became tantalizing—seducing his appetite.
Brutally, Rex clawed through the ragged flesh, carving the entry wound wider with fury.
Then, he shoved his face into the gash and bit down, ripping out chunks of raw meat.
Blood poured over him, but he didn’t care and kept going—devouring the serpent’s flesh with grotesque delight. Every motion looked savage and unrestrained, like he had turned into an actual animal that was now enjoying his hunt.
His aura still clung to the air, choking and crushing any who dared to witness his feeding frenzy.
<Notice: Devoured a piece of Master Immortal Spirit-rank Special Voidal Knight!>
<No Echo can be detected!>
Rex cursed inside as he was expecting to gain something from devouring the Special Voidal Knight other than delight. But it seemed like a new Special Voidal Knight hadn’t settled on an Echo, which was understandable, as even its monarch was still settling down.
Swoosh!
Sensing an incoming attack, Rex leaped, narrowly avoiding the serpent’s maw.
He landed on its head and ripped out the fang that was stuck in it with one brutal yank.
Roar!!
“Krggh!”
Rex was hurled skyward like a ragdoll caught in a storm when the serpent thrashed again.
But even as his body spun through the air, his grip never faltered—the broken fang remained locked in his fist, glinting with blue venom and blood. His body burst with life energy—and his muscles bulged, stopping his spinning momentum in an instant.
Eyes narrowing, he extended his hand—and in a flash of golden brilliance, his Soul Artifact came.
A golden halo blitzed towards him and went over his feet.
Using it as a foothold, Rex launched himself forward like a missile, straight down at the serpent.
Swoosh!
By the time the Special Voidal Knight registered the incoming threat, Rex was already upon it.
He let out a battle roar as he plunged the broken fang into the serpent’s under belly—and dragged it in a straight line downward with brutal force. The fang ripped through armored scale, flesh, and sinew with ease, carving a grotesque, gaping trench.
A geyser of dark blood exploded outward, soaking the battlefield in crimson as the serpent shrieked.
It was still recovering from the damage from earlier.
But Rex was merciless, giving no time for it to catch its breath and recover.
Violently, it writhed, body thrashing as strength fled with every drop of blood it shed.
Moving like this would only make the wounds worse, but due to fear and panic, it didn’t stop.
Rex grinned savagely when he noticed something.
Like most snakes, he figured, this Special Voidal Knight wasn’t immune to its own venom.
And he was right.
The Special Voidal Knight began to choke and bleed—Its body twitching unnaturally.
Swells erupted beneath its armored scales, grotesque, bulbous protrusions that split open with wet tears.
Blood sprayed from every rupture, dark and steaming.
Even its eyes bled, thick crimson tears rolling down its scaled cheeks as they bulged and strained.
In an attempt to keep its dear life, the serpent dived down, heading straight for the ground.
Rex tightened his grip on the broken fang as the serpent burrowed into the earth with a slam, moving frantically inside in hope to shake off this maniacal Werewolf clinging to its body. It burst in and out of the ground over and over, like a sea serpent coursing through waves—only this ocean was made of soil and stone.
Crack!
At the sixth emergence, Rex was hurled off the serpent’s body.
He spun in the air hard as the serpent was charged its Spirit Genesis again.
Its mouth was already glowing blue, and a sphere appeared at the base of its mouth.
Even then, no worry could be seen on Rex’s face as he already sensed the serpent channeling its voidal energy before it was visible to the eyes. His free hand was now already charged with crimson life energy as he sent a red arc right at the same time the serpent fired its beam.
Swish!
Rex’s nimble body twisted, narrowly avoiding the beam.
But the serpent wasn’t as quick as the energy arc sliced through its neck, almost decapitating it.
As soon as Rex hit the ground with a hard thud, crouched in a pool of blood, he vanished in a blur.
He cuts the distance in an instant and hacks the serpent’s wounded body with the broken fang, cleaving flesh again and again in a frenzy. Venom dripped from every strike, further infecting the serpent’s blood, sealing its fate.
Each slash was savage, calculated, and relentless.
It didn’t take long before the Special Voidal Knight convulsed helplessly.
Paralyzed.
Dying.
As life was nearing its end, Rex made one final leap.
He rocketed upward, then came crashing down with a domineering roar.
Flexing his claws as he descended, he arced through the air in a wide, brutal swing.
Rex poured every ounce of strength into his final strike.
Bam!
Upon impact, the blow cracked across the serpent’s massive form, sending it crashing sideways like a broken tower. Earth split beneath it, and blood painted everything around. Its reptilian eyes rattled until life dimmed from them.
Crash!
A minor quake happened the moment its gigantic body crashed against the ground.
<Killed a Special Voidal Knight, obtained 13,000 gold and 5 Red Nightfall Stars!>
<Special Voidal Knight killed: 1 / 3>
As soon as the notifications appeared, Rex stood in the wake of everything—victorious.
His haunting appearance from the blood that got smeared onto him was there to see.
For a few seconds, Rex caught his breath and eventually turned towards the other voidal monsters.
All of them had been waiting patiently on the sidelines, confident the Special Voidal Knight would prevail before they advanced to slaughter everyone in their path. But now that their champion had fallen, their faces drained of color.
Rex’s violent grin and crimson eyes were enough to make them turn around with their tails tucked.
None of them dared to go further.
But Rex wasn’t going to let them go away.
Heading to the carcass with a single powerful leap, Rex wrapped his arms around the serpent’s massive head and ripped it from its body with a brutal yank. He shoved the mangled carcass into his inventory for later use, kept the severed head in hand, and bolted out of the bubble without looking back.
As soon as he disappeared, the suppressive aura that lingered in the air also disappeared.
Some of the stronger soldiers recovered quickly and looked around.
A minute ago, they were invaded.
But now, there wasn’t a single voidal monster within their territory.
Even the dark smoke from the Black Rift wasn’t expanding, though the bubble was breached.
Not too far away from their position, there was a bloody spot.
It should be where the serpent died, but there was no carcass in sight.
However, they all knew one thing for certain—this was thanks to Rex.
He had appeared out of nowhere, saved the bubble from destruction, and vanished without a word.
An unknown shadow who strikes fear into monsters.
