Chapter 1619: Luring the Monarch

Chapter 1619: Luring the Monarch

Empress Morgana turned to her side and nodded.

Beside her, two Seekers draped in a grand cloak that bore the royal crest heeded her will and sat down with their legs crossed. Both of them are High Priestesses of Purity who were assigned to be the royal consuls that served as advisors and also the royal Seekers.

In unison, the two drew the Sun Ecclesia’s mark on the ground.

A brilliant golden sunlight shone once the mark was activated, opening up a small portal.

From within it, a golden orb like a miniature of the sun emerged.

Any nobles would recognize what this orb was—the Sun Drop of Kei Xun.

Even though no one knew exactly what it was made of, rumors whispered that the orb had been forged from Kei Xun’s tears—mingled with an extract of the Sun Echo. A devastatingly powerful artifact that was only reserved for the royal Seekers.

It was said to have the power to amplify the output of Spirit Genesis or any ability by fivefold.

Once the Sun Drop emerged, the two royal Seekers held it in their hands and began chanting a mantra.

As opposed to using their own powers through a Spirit Genesis, they asked for power from Kei Xun.

Swoosh!

Slowly, the two royal Seekers began to float.

Both of them stopped and levitated a distance away from the ground, continuing to chant the mantra as their bodies shimmered with the golden sheen of sunlight. In their hands, the Sun Drop glowed, infusing more power into them.

In a few seconds, their bodies glowed as bright as the sun.

Even the heat they were emanating could be felt directly by the nobles on the ground.

Empress Morgana took out an item from inside her robe.

It was a blackened circlet—forged from scorched thorns and bones twisted into a ring.

In its interior was a translucent, membranous sphere suspended in voidal filaments like a spider’s egg sac mid-hatch. The cocoon pulsed faintly with power—and disturbing whispers could be heard from it, as if the void had a tongue.

The Prince Embryo.

Decisively, Empress Morgana threw it toward the sky.

As the circlet spun, the two royal Seekers caught it with their powers and created a barrier around it.

More and more sunlight was infused into the barrier until it was thick enough that the trace of the Prince Embryo couldn’t be sensed. Its pulses remained constant and strong, but none were able to go through—the newly made barrier.

Rex could see the process even from afar.

It was all due to the brilliant sunlight that came from the two royal Seekers.

“Kei Xun’s powers,” Rex mumbled inwardly.

Rumble!

Just then, the ground shook slightly as the disturbance from the two royal Seekers garnered attention.

Rex anchored himself robustly and waited with hyper-focus.

In order to start the mission—they need to attract the Voidal Monarch’s attention first and make it chase them so that they can lead it to the Burrowing Valley. Since it has already started its settlement process, the Monarchy Conquest, there’s only one thing that could make it abandon everything.

The Prince Embryo.

Upon achieving the realm of Voidal Monarch, a Voidal Monster would begin its reign.

And to do that, it would need to start its family tree.

Creating Voidal Pawns is a natural ability of any Voidal Monarch—the same applies to Voidal Knights and Voidal Lords. Their abilities would also be unique depending to the monarch. The only difference lies in how frequently they can be created—with pawns being the most common, followed by Knights, and then the far rarer Lords.

Voidal Prince, however, is something different entirely.

Just like in an actual monarchy, the prince is the direct descendant of the emperor.

In the world of Voidal Monsters, to have a descendant, the Voidal Monarch didn’t need a mate.

All Voidal Monarchs are a unique species of their own, so there are no male and female counterparts.

So, to have a descendant, they need to rely on the Black Rift.

A Voidal Monarch requires a Prince Embryo to produce a true descendant, with these embryos being passive, living beings that form naturally in places where voidal energy is at its peak concentration. And they are extremely rare, born only under the most volatile and saturated voidal conditions.

In fact, there could only be one in ten thousand years or even less.

Considering that all Voidal Monarchs would be fighting over territories with each other, these embryos are extremely desirable for them—one that could make any Voidal Monarch go mad with obsession. And since the White Mask is a new Voidal Monarch—with only one Voidal Prince, the temptation was far beyond what it could endure.

ROAR!!

Rex covered his ears with his hands as a thunderous, astral roar tore through the air.

It shook the very ground beneath him and beyond.

So, deafening that the sound made the air tremble and even cracked the dark sky, one that reverberated through his bones and blotted out all other noise. Peeking with one eye open, Rex readied himself. It’s coming—the White Mask is coming.

“Get ready!!”

Rex shouted, turning to the soldiers behind who were barricading the dark expanse.

Since there are bubbles all around them, in any direction, the legions would need to start by surrounding the White Mask’s Monarchy Conquest territory first—before following suit. As Rick said earlier, once the monarch was lured out, its people would follow suit in shambles.

Rumble!

Out of nowhere, the vast expanse of the dark territory trembled—and then shrank, visibly and violently, as if it had lost its power. A moment later, a shadow burst forth—from its depths, a blur of motion that carved through the air with terrifying speed.

Rex’s eyes flickered when he saw this.

It passed him in an instant, leaving behind a chilling wind that swept across his skin.

As soon as he blinked, he realized what it was.

Naturally, the long shadow was none other than the colossal and undulating dragon snake.

Riding right above its head was the White Mask.

Both had abandoned the Monarch Conquest without hesitation, their attention fixed on something else.

A far more covered price: the Prince Embryo.

“Rrggh…!”

Hearing the groan, Rex looked to the side and found Ethan struggling to stand on his feet.

It was the same for the other soldiers.

Looking back ahead, at the barrier, Rex realized that the waves of corruptive aura poured from the White Mask and the dragon snake were tearing through the protective Seeker Flare. It crashed like a relentless storm, battering hard against the glass-like dome.

Under his gaze, the flare flickered, shimmered, and began to shudder violently under the pressure.

Some of the corruptive voidal energy was penetrating inside.

I have Kraken protecting me from the inside, but the others don’t.

Above them, the Seeker strained beyond her limit, remained steadfast with gritted teeth.

Blood could be seen trickling down her mouth by the fifth second, but she persevered.

Finally, as the last coils of the dragon snake slithered out from the shrinking dark territory, and its form vanished into the distance, the pressure lifted. A collective gasp filled the air—the Seeker Flare became stable again, and the legions regained their breath.

But there was no time to rest.

A chorus of hisses and low, guttural growls began to rise from the depths of the shrinking darkness.

An eerie warning of what now stirred in the wake of the ones who had gone before.

Rex summoned his Red Dawn of Kaiser, coating his hands with red claws that oozed with power.

A Soul Artifact so sturdy that it almost looked solid, thanks to achieving the Manifestation state.

“S-Sir, we have a problem!”

Just as Rex was about to get into his position, Ethan’s voice rang from the side.

Rex turned towards him and realized that Ethan was still unable to recover from the corruptive impact, still dazed and still needed more time to recover to a fighting state, “What’s wrong? Get a grip! The horde is about to come!”

“Too much voidal energy seeped through the Seeker Flare!” Ethan writhed weakly.

Hearing this, Rex turned to the other soldiers on his side and realized that all of them were the same.

All of them were disoriented from the White Mask’s aura.

Instinctively, Rex gazed ahead to Haxel’s side and saw that the soldiers there were completely fine—no sign of them being disoriented. Each one of them had already gotten in formation in preparation to clash with the horde of Pawns and Knights.

Then, his eyes met with Haxel.

A mischievous smile bloomed on Haxel’s lips.

Is it his doing? How?

Rex gritted his teeth in anger, but he quickly averted his focus—reassessing the situation.

Only my side is having trouble while his isn’t. Half of the horde would clash with his side, so I’m stuck dealing with only the other half. It’s a setback—not a complete failure. Even if a few manage to slip through, we can hunt them down quickly.

But with the soldiers on my side stunned… Tch! He wanted to see my power.

See how strong I am.

Even before properly starting the mission, Haxel already made his move.

Rex was already forced to handle the situation with his own two hands.

Roar!

Hiss!

Glancing to the side, hundreds of red eyes could be seen emerging from the darkness, charging straight at them. It was the horde of Voidal Pawns and Knights that were going to follow the White Mask. Rex’s side has no time.

I need to buy time.

Rex closed his eyes and inhaled deeply through his nose.

It’s going to be bloody in a second, and he needs to stay composed or else he’d go berserk.

Just earlier, when Haxel ambushed him, he almost lost it.

His form almost morphed into that of a Werewolf, and that could end up devastating for him.

Clearly, the Blood Moon’s effect was getting to him.

A Werewolf’s birth moon will always be a problem.

Not to mention, I even have bad blood with the Lunirich God behind it.

Rex exhaled through his nose again as he opened his eyes and focused on the task at hand.

“Ethan, help the others as soon as you recover!” He instructed without turning to look.

Ethan looked at him in confusion, “What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to buy us time.”

Not even waiting for an answer, Rex’s entire body burned with crimson life energy, drawing strength from the Red Dawn of Kaiser. He made a huge leap over the soldiers and into the shrinking dark dome, landing perfectly—his back facing the soldiers.

He stood inside the dark dome alone, his broad back radiating strength as he faced the incoming horde.

One scan from the System and Rex’s vision was immediately drowned in stat windows.

Ahead of him were thousands upon thousands of Voidal Monsters.

“One minute.” He muttered, charging his Red Dawn of Kaiser with energy. “I’ll buy one minute!”

Fearlessly, Rex closed his frame as he infused as much life energy into his Soul Artifact and then, once charged enough, he made a horizontal sweep. A red crescent-shaped energy slash burst forth, “Inevitable Death!”

Swoosh!!

Rex and the other soldiers watched as the red slash headed for the horde.

Almost in perfect unison, as if driven by a single mind, the Voidal Monsters converged into a writhing mass of shadow—piling atop one another and unleashing a surge of voidal energy to intercept the red arc and deflect it, or even stop it within its track.

But as soon as it connected, painful growls and hisses rang as the red slash sliced through them.

Like an axe cutting through pigs, the red arc didn’t stop and kept going.

It slaughtered every Voidal Monster that stood in its path.

<Killed a Voidal Pawn, obtained 50 gold!>

<Killed a Voidal Knight, obtained 650 gold!>

<Killed a Voidal…>

<Killed…>

<Voidal Pawns killed: 127 / 30,000>

<Voidal Knights killed: 3 / 300>

Countless notifications drowned Rex’s vision as the red slash killed hundreds.

Not even waiting for the red slash to end its slaughter, Rex leaped straight to the heart of the horde.

His eyes blazed crimson, ready to slaughter.
