The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1618: His Dark World

Chapter 1618: His Dark World

Bloodlust has taken over.

Reason and sanity abandoned him as he fixed Haxel with a burning glare.

It was one thing to openly taunt him and another to attack him like this.

Above, the sun blazed brightly in the sky, and its overwhelming golden light was still able to penetrate the shroud of the Black Rift, albeit barely. It was still the sun’s turn to shine—the moon was still somewhere else in that vast expanse, still drowned beneath the sun’s radiance, hidden from sight.

Even if it had been visible, even if it hung directly overhead in the dead of night, it would still be normal.

It would have remained silvery and serene, offering its usual quiet comfort.

But the power of the moon was creeping. Rising. Biding its time to take over.

Most of the populace went about their lives in ignorance, unaware of the shift in the air.

But Rex felt it.

Deep in his bones, in the marrow of his being, he could sense its approach.

It coiled through the atmosphere like smoke before a fire, its presence subtle yet undeniable for a furred creature of the night like him. And with it came a tide of fury—building, swelling inside him with each passing moment.

Albeit its existence could be felt directly, it didn’t strike all at once.

No, it was patient, deliberate, building slowly.

Now, the anger was already filling up Rex’s vessel, its effect already leaking out.

Rex could feel its power building inside him clearly, preparing for the time for all of it to explode like a tidal wave that would drown the entire world in blood. He was aware and wary of it, but controlling it wasn’t entirely in his hands.

However, as soon as he was about to pounce and allow a fraction of his anger to show, someone came to stop him. A hand grabbed his wrist and pulled him back, breaking the tension and momentum, pulling back his senses into him.

“Why are you here…?”

Rex’s eyes focused on the features of the person beside him.

He was making sure that he was not hallucinating, that it was really who he thought it was.

Nobody told him that she was coming.

Just like him, April also seemed to be stunned at something.

She noticed Rex’s eyes mirroring twin Blood Moons.

Both eyes glowed beautiful crimson, but they also foretold something violent and inevitable.

One that made April feel uneasy and worried.

Rex blinked, and surprisingly, his eyes returned to normal again.

Even though his breaths were still heavy and his nostrils still flared, he had already come back to his senses.

April tugged on his arm and brought him further away from Haxel.

“Are you out of your mind?” She whispered, looking at Rex dead in the eyes—as she couldn’t believe that he was about to pounce on Haxel earlier. Had she not interfered, he would’ve definitely attacked a veteran knight. “Have you thought it through before deciding to attack?”

“I didn’t think it would take that long to kill him,” Rex answered with a blank expression.

His answer caught April off guard.

She couldn’t believe that he was actually planning on killing a knight when the others were so close by.

“Still, you can’t be that reckless. What even warrants you to kill Sir Haxel?”

“If the nobles found out, what are you going to do?”

“Aren’t you supposed to be rescuing your friend? It’ll be harder to do if you’re imprisoned.

April continued speaking, explaining the grave consequences of killing a knight.

No matter the reason, a knight was still nobility—and the Empire took such matters very seriously.

Making light of such matters would only lead to endangering the nobles.

But her voice was fading.

To Rex, each word sounded more distant than the last, like echoes slipping underwater. Her warnings became background noise, muffled and far away, as the voice in his own mind surged forward—sharp, insistent, impossible to ignore.

What is she doing here?

Rex studied her features in detail, his brows furrowing together.

She managed to reach the Master Immortal Spirit rank now that her Spiritual Vein is imbalanced like mine—but she shouldn’t be here. I know she’s worried that we’re going to grow more distant, now that I’m Davina’s fiancé, but this is dangerous.

She should’ve been focusing on mastering her Midnight Echo.

It’s a mission where things could get ugly really fast.

One that has no room for a mistake.

April has gotten stronger since he last time he saw her, but it was clear her mind was not in the mission.

Her mind was on him, and that’s dangerous.

I did tell her that keeping up with me is the only way she can ever be with me.

Did I give too much hope?

Seeing how worried she was, going on and on about his recklessness, Rex’s face hardened.

If he explained to her that Haxel was his target, he would be able to clear up the misunderstandings.

Even if Rex killed Haxel right now, Empress Morgana is going to protect him.

No consequences would strike him as he has the backing of the Empress.

But Rex didn’t feel like explaining himself.

For once, Rex looked at April for the way she was.

What am I even expecting from her? I’m close to my goals, and when I reach them, I’ll go back to the Mortal Realm and leave her for good. Even if I wanted to somehow bring her back with me, she would not want to.

Screams echoed inside Rex’s mind.

Raw, unfiltered cries of terror from people whose lives had depended on those final, desperate pleas.

Flashes followed—brief but brutal images of blood spraying everywhere, drawing arcs in the air, and even soaking into the soil. Even the warmth of the blood that sprayed onto him… he could feel it all so vividly at the moment.

All of those memories struck him without mercy, overwhelming his senses.

Rex had grown accustomed to the smell of death, the sticky heat of fresh blood, and the dying eyes.

All the lives he had taken in the Spirit Realm to reach this moment surged back at once.

Particularly, all the people in the Dragna Land and the Dragna Sea.

No one else knew, other than Amanir and Linthia, the people who came with him from the Mortal Realm.

Rex stared at April’s hazel eyes, once so often half-lidded in quiet disinterest, now shimmered with an unfamiliar gleam. A pair of eyes that glimmered with softness from the history they shared, that only the Forsaken Tower witnessed.

A curious gleam that didn’t belong in his world.

Her innocent eyes—untouched by the carnage of his dark world, unspoiled by the bloodstained truths that weighed upon his world like a shroud. Eyes that had only ever seen the beautiful side of the world with glimpses of darkness.

And for a fleeting moment, Rex felt distant from her.

Even if she wanted to be with me… how can I let her? My life is far too dark for someone as bright as her. Evelyn, Adhara…and Roise—they were all swept up in my pace, dragged into my world. Look at where they ended up. Whatever light they once had, whatever natural goodness they carried… It’s gone.

Replaced by pain. By suffering. Because my world demands those things to survive.

Rex looked at April profoundly.

A light, self-mocking smile curled on his lips.

When she sees who I truly am. The real me. She’ll change her mind. She’ll be afraid.

“Rex… Are you listening to me?” April asked. “I’m trying to help you here.”

As he blinked and returned to reality, Rex’s expression hardened further as he looked at her sharply.

“Did I ask for your help?”

“Hmm…?”

“I said, did I contact you and ask for your help?”

April was stunned for a second, surprised by the sudden sharpness in his tone.

One that she wasn’t used to.

“No… but I—”

“Then what are you doing here? Go back. You’ll only get in the way.”

Not even waiting for her to reply, Rex walked past her with wide strides.

April’s eyes widened as he walked away—bumping her shoulder and forcing her aside.

She lowered her head slightly, confusion knitting her brows, unsure of what had just happened.

About twenty meters in front of her, Haxel stood motionlessly within the shadows.

His eyes narrowed into a watchful gaze.

“April of the Aurelius House?”

Meanwhile, Rex walked inside the bubble ahead and met with Empress Morgana along with the other nobles who seemed to be waiting for the legions that would be following them. He stopped a few steps away and pounded his chestplate with his fist in salute.

“Your Majesty, we’ve arrived. It’s time to start the mission.” He reported.

Soon after, April and Haxel stepped inside the small bubble, following right behind.

Empress Morgana gave a subtle nod and turned to a noble to her side.

His face was aged yet commanding—etched with wisdom in every line, framed by a well-maintained beard. Though his expression bore the calm of years, there was a sharpness in his eyes that warned he hadn’t grown soft with age.

Judging from his blue hair, beard, and eyes, Rex could guess who this person was.

Ethan earlier told me that the main person I need to be wary of is Marquess Darius. Is this him?

Other than this man, the other nobles didn’t seem to be as imposing.

“Prepare the Prince Embryo.” Empress Morgana instructed.

Upon hearing this, Marquess Darius turned to a soldier and nodded his head.

Empress Morgana then turned to Rex again.

“Go back to your legion and get into your position.” She instructed firmly.

Rex and Haxel bowed and returned back to their legions.

Not even idling any longer, Rex walked out of the small bubble and headed back to the legion.

April could only watch from behind, still confused and in a trance from what had happened.

Moments later.

Rex was now standing on alert at the edge of the growing expanse of darkness that was caused by the Monarchy Conquest. Behind him were two groups, one from his own legion, while the other was from Haxel’s legion.

“Is the White Mask still oblivious?” He asked, turning to Ethan.

“Yes,” Ethan nodded. “It doesn’t know we’re here, but the prince was awakened for some reason.”

“Is it going to be a problem?”

“No, we should be fine to proceed as planned.”

Rex nodded and gazed ahead again.

Earlier, he discussed the formation with Haxel.

Since they were going to move behind the Voidal Pawns and Knights that were also going to follow the White Mask’s lead when it was drawn out, Rex decided his legion would form the tail’s end, while Haxel’s legion would make up the middle, marching alongside the bulk of Voidal Monsters.

Rex specifically decided on this formation to always keep Haxel in sight.

Being at the very back would allow him to react to anything Haxel might try to pull along the way.

Naturally, Haxel knew this too, but he didn’t fight the idea.

He accepted the suggestion and allowed Rex’s forces to be at the back, right behind his.

It was troubling to see him accepting this formation that easily, but this is the best Rex could think of.

As he waited, his eyes trailed across where Haxel and the other half of the legions were also waiting.

But his eyes were fixed on April, who was on the other side.

Rex didn’t know what her arrangements were for being a part of the mission, but April was now going to be moving alongside them, and she chose to be on Haxel’s side instead of his. Just what is she doing? She should’ve stayed with the other nobles.

He clenched his jaw, troubled, but there was nothing he could do.

A brilliant sphere of light suddenly appeared to their side and climbed high into the sky.

It was the Prince Embryo.

Rumble!

Soon enough, the ground began to shake violently as the White Mask’s aura swelled.

“It’s starting… the mission is underway.”
