Chapter 2512: Realm Flattery

Lex looked at the mush and did not know how to process that information. Here, all this time he was cursing out Daekol for being so inconsiderate and all this time he had been preparing a prize for Lex. It was quite funny actually.

The mush was useful for him, although admittedly Lex didn’t know how just yet. All he knew was that as the remains of a Sovereign, there were probably many things he could do with it, not in the least of which was study it to see how a Sovereigns authority or being affected their body.

He could also fuse it with his own Sovereign realm to give it a little boost, although Lex had no intentions of fusing Sovereign remains with anything until he read through Taro’s journal at least once.

The most immediate benefit he could get, however, was likely from the Murderer feature. Lex diverted his attention from the mush towards the system interface. For once, the system wasn’t immediate in its actions. Instead, there was a loading bar showing him the progress until the Murderer feature activated.

Lex used his left eye, through which he could vividly see all the laws of the universe, and studied what the system was doing to the mush. It wasn’t extracting anything from it - more like replicating a certain feature of the body.

After waiting for a few seconds, the feature finally activated. Lex felt the feedback from the system, imprinting the activation sequence for a set series of laws onto his body while he himself got the information for what skill he had learned.

Once upon a time, long, long ago, Lex had gone through the Mystery trial inside the Inn - a service which allowed guests to activate a hidden, innate ability or improve an existing skill. It wouldn’t activate an overpowered ability or skill, but it wouldn’t be useless either. For Lex, the Mystery trial awakened his ability to read people.

Thus, even when his cultivation level was low, he learned how to effectively read people’s emotions and thoughts through a combination of their actions, facial features, body language and so on. It sounded very simple, but back in those days it had played a critical role in him maintaining the Innkeepers persona.

By knowing what the other person was thinking of feeling, he could behave exactly as he needed to for the Innkeeper to continue to appear mysterious, all knowing, and yet very thoughtful.

Although, the effect of such an ability was eventually reduced later on when his cultivation level rose and his senses heightened, the skill had played its part.

Now, the ability he was receiving from Daekol via Murderer was somewhat similar, except that it wasn’t people he was learning to read. No, he was learning to read the realm that he was in.

He could sense, through the laws and the way they functioned in a specific realm, what he needed to do to be more liked by the realm itself. It almost sounded like the ability treated a realm as if it was alive and sentient, but that wasn’t the case.

It was more akin to Lex learning how to reduce, or maybe even avoid altogether, friction from a realm. He would instinctively understand which of his actions might incite a positive reaction from a realm, allowing him to have an easier time fulfilling any objective, and what action would incite some kind of backlash or resistance.

Considering how much Lex traveled to various realms, and how many of them were highly unusual, this was actually an incredible ability! He could already imagine how useful it would be in Abaddon, or maybe Arch-Heaven where any random action could cause total destruction!

Lex’s eyes began to glow as he lowered all resistance, allowing the ability to become inscribed in his body, while his mind worked on understanding how such an ability worked at all.

Something like this would allow him to draw out greater power from his Sovereign realm, while also avoiding the general pitfalls he most regularly fell victim to while traveling. It could also help him sabotage his opponents.

No wonder Sovereigns were so loved by the universe - they knew exactly how to flatter it!

In fact, Lex ignored the original name of the ability and decided to call it Realm Flattery - even though technically the ability only allowed him to sense things instead of actually flattering anyone or anything.

The details were irrelevant - what mattered was how he intended to use the ability. This would come very handy in nurturing and developing realms in the future. It seemed that, in the future, he was destined to become especially adept at growing and nurturing realms.

For a short duration, his excitement rose, but as he began to study how this ability actually worked, that excitement was replaced by a sobering realization that it was far more complex than he imagined.

Even just sensing the realms affinities and preferences involved not hundreds, not thousands, but tens of thousands of laws! Let alone understanding how it all worked, Lex, even with his mind which had been enhanced by the Celestial realm, could not even memorize it all.

This was something that would require long-term study, repeated attempts at understanding and perhaps creating any number of Lawcrafts to make the process easier to accomplish. Fortunately, he could use Realm Flattery directly due to Murderer, but if he wanted to use the ability himself it would be a long time before he could succeed.

No wonder others couldn’t just copy Sovereigns. Even his own method merely made him a pale imitation of a Sovereign at best, and even that was only in a single way. The Sovereign realm only allowed him to force things to go his way, it could not allow him to receive the love and attention of the universe the way Sovereigns got.

Now it made much more sense to him why even Dao Lords often hunted down Sovereigns. Their abilities were far from simple. This also explained why the system actually had a loading bar before the Murderer feature was activated. The laws it was trying to copy were so complex that it took some time to get it all down.
