The Incubus System Chapter 856. Quick! Hide The Bodies!

"Shit! It's Nathan! Nathan is coming! Quick! Hide the bodies!" Larry babbled in panic, his eyes darting around like a cat on a caffeine high.

"They aren't dead yet!" I reminded him, shooting him a cringe that could freeze hell over. "Why do we have to hide them?" I asked. Larry had a tendency to jump the gun, especially when it came to his absurdity.

"You're right." Larry stopped his panic, turning to me with wide eyes. "Oh right! Let's make them sit on the bench and pose them like a bunch of old people were doing a public orgy!" he blurted out, his face lighting up like a demon who just found a loophole in the soul-collecting contract.

I raised an eyebrow, staring at Larry like he'd grown an extra head. "Seriously, Larry? Public orgy? That's your brilliant plan?" I shook my head, half-amused and half-appalled at the absurdity of it all. "That's the worst idea I've ever heard."

He scratched his head, looking sheepish. "Well, I panicked, okay? It's not like I have a handbook on how to deal with a bunch of floating elders." Larry, undeterred by my skepticism, grabbed one of the not-so-dead bodies and propped it up on a park bench. He rearranged the limbs with a bizarre enthusiasm that would make any human question their life choices. "See, it's the perfect cover! Nobody suspects us to be orchestrating a senior citizen love fest!"

I sighed, rubbing my temples. "Larry, you're lucky you're my best friend. This is the dumbest idea you've ever had. And that's saying something."

Larry shot me a wild look. "Dude, Nathan is the last person we want to catch us with bodies floating around. Do you know how terrifying that would be? It's the perfect cover. Nobody suspects a bunch of old folks. Plus, it's hilarious. Picture it – demon hunters stumble upon a park filled with geriatric debauchery. Classic."

I grimaced. Why did he look more demonic than I was?

"Or dates. That sounds more normal," he corrected himself quickly. His voice made it sound like it was a good idea.

"How about leaving them here, on the ground, as they should be, victims," I suggested, hoping for a more sensible approach.

He snapped his fingers. "Oh, that makes sense!" he said excitedly. As if it was the most brilliant idea he'd ever heard.

I couldn't help but shake my head. "Larry, sometimes I wonder how your brain works."

He grinned, unfazed by my comment. "Well, genius is a heavy burden, my friend."

I waved my hand downward, orchestrating the descent of the floating elders. Slowly, like falling leaves, they descended to the ground, their ethereal movement making it seem almost poetic. Larry's eyes followed their every motion, a mix of concentration and concern etched across his face. He seemed determined to ensure they landed with the utmost care, as if orchestrating a delicate ballet.

As each elder touched the ground, I infused a hint of my Telekinesis to guide their bodies into a comfortable and gentle repose. Larry, despite his often carefree demeanor, approached the task with a surprising level of attentiveness, perhaps realizing the fragility of the situation. The elderly figures settled on the ground as gracefully as possible.

Larry surveyed the scene, satisfied with our impromptu performance. The once-floated elders now lay on the ground, appearing no different from ordinary people resting in the open air.

He turned to me. "Now you should turn yourself into a street lamp!" he said in a low voice, giving me another absurd idea.

"Why a street lamp?" I asked him, scrunching up my face in confusion. He had a knack for coming up with the weirdest plans.

"Cause if you turn into a bench, they might sit on you," he explained in a deadpan tone, as if he was sharing the secrets of the universe. His voice carried the gravity of a street magician revealing a mind-blowing trick.

I stared at him, my eyebrows threatening to escape to my hairline. "Wait, what? Sit on me? Dude, that's not even ---"

"But if you're into that kind of thing, I won't judge," he interrupted with a dry smile, his eyes flickering with amusement. His look seemed to say, 'Even though you have a strange fetish, you are still my friend.'

My jaw dropped like I'd just witnessed a magic trick gone horribly wrong.

"No---" I was just about to complain, but the sound of hurried footsteps made me turn to the source of the sound.

I could see Nathan and the others running quickly, approaching us with urgency in their gazes. It was evident they had spotted us. Luckily, our voices hadn't been too loud, they shouldn't have heard our comical banter. I exchanged a quick glance with Larry, a silent acknowledgment of the impending serious tone our encounter was about to take.

"They are coming," I whispered, shooting Larry a meaningful look.

His eyes widened in panic. "What should we do?" he whispered back urgently.

"Just pretend you just fought me and fell," I suggested, hoping he'd grasp the subtlety.

"Like passed out?" he sought clarification, his forehead creasing.

"No, as if you were hurt," I clarified, a tinge of annoyance in my tone.

"Okay," he agreed, his expression shifting to a mix of understanding and reluctance. It was clear he got the idea, but knowing Larry, executing it might be another comical adventure.

I adopted my icy demon gaze, locking eyes with the approaching Nathan. "Looks like your friends decided to join the party," I remarked in a haughty tone, ensuring my words carried.

Giving Larry a theatrical shove, he stumbled and plopped down on the ground with a resounding "ARG!" I aimed for a groan loud enough to echo and catch the attention of the approaching group.

Nathan's team hastened their pace, concern etched on their faces. The serious demon hunter exterior slipped for a moment as they assessed the situation.

Larry, still on the ground, grimaced in mock pain. "Man, that demon really got me good," he complained, hamming up the act for all it was worth.
