Chapter 842: Killing Intent
Chapter 842: Killing Intent
The Incubus System Chapter 832. Killing Intent
The atmosphere changed in a snap.
In an instant, I could feel Azrael's demonic power surging, growing thicker and more potent with every passing moment. His killing intent was palpable, hanging in the air like a heavy shroud. This was an entirely different Azrael from the one I trained with or even the one I engaged in friendly matches with. This was the real deal.
The threat was so clear that my primal instincts kicked into high gear. I could practically taste the battle readiness in the air, and my hand twitched, almost summoning my sword. Every fiber of my being screamed at me to prepare for combat, to be on guard for the impending clash.
My demonic instincts roared to life, urging me to enter battle mode.
But I managed to restrain myself, the rational part of my mind prevailing.
I wasn't entirely defenseless; I was ready to conjure my barrier if the situation escalated. Yet, there was no denying the tension in the room had skyrocketed, and my heart raced in anticipation of what might happen next.
Azrael's sharp gaze darted between Lord Damon, who remained nonchalantly seated in his office chair, and me. His eyes bore into us with an unmistakable threat.
"I don't know what you are hiding from me," Azrael began, his tone dripping with a warning. "Just remember--- I will not hesitate to destroy anyone who touches my territory or tries to get rid of me."
His declaration was unmistakable, and the weight of his power pressed down on the room.
"As for the others, I don't care," he declared with an air of indifference. "Don't bother me, and I won't bother you. Those rules will always apply, forever," he added, emphasizing the rules that governed his dominion.
I was taken aback by the sudden shift in Azrael's demeanor. I hadn't expected him to discern so much in our conversation. He had always been sharp, but he had masterfully concealed his awareness of the situation.
In response to Azrael's threat, Lord Damon maintained his composure. He tilted his head ever so slightly and leaned back in his chair, his expression remaining relaxed as if Azrael's words were of no concern. "Don't worry," he assured Azrael, his voice unwavering. "I always remember that."
"But one thing I can confirm," Lord Damon continued, his tone earnest, "the power near your territory is not mine or Damian's doing. I also don't know what happened, and the investigation is a genuine effort to uncover the truth. So, I hope you will also be serious about this."
In a rare shift of the dynamic, it was Azrael who tilted his head.
"Okay," he replied, his tone carrying a note of caution. "I'll take your word for the time being. And as for the investigation team, I will let you know as soon as possible."
Lord Damon exuded confidence. "Good," he said with a nod, his voice steady. "Thanks for reporting what happened." He maintained his composure.
"Don't mention it," he asserted plainly. "I simply don't want you to misunderstand and disturb my peace."
Lord Damon responded with a knowing tone. "Don't worry about that," he reassured Azrael. "I know you."
As quickly as Azrael's killing intent had flared, it dissipated, as if he had switched personalities in the blink of an eye. "Okay. I have to go home now," he announced, his tone now light and carefree.
He reached over to pat my shoulder. Then, he turned his attention to me. "Don't hesitate to stop by my place again, Damian," he invited in a warm tone. "We'll have fun like last time." It was as if our conversation had never taken a serious turn.
I responded with a smile. "Sure," I agreed. "I'll stop by again next time. But maybe not in the near future. I have a lot of things to do," I added.
"I know," he acknowledged. "Becoming a new demon lord is not easy, and there is always a lot of work waiting. So do your best." But then, in typical Azrael fashion, he couldn't resist adding a humorous jab. "Don't be like Letos," he quipped, a playful grin on his face.
I chuckled in response. "I'll try," I assured him.
With a casual, almost nonchalant air, Azrael headed for the door. He didn't touch it; instead, he simply flicked his fingers to swing the door open.
He strolled out casually, and one of Lord Damon's royal guards, a headless demon, waited at the door to escort him. As soon as Azrael exited, the door closed automatically.
Lord Damon turned his attention to me. "So, what brings you here?" he inquired, his interest piqued.
Those words made me turn to him.
