Chapter 11: Chapter 11: A Delivery [2]

Xi Yunxui stepped into the office.

The door closed quietly behind her.

She took two steps forward—

Then stopped.

Her eyes widened.

Oh.

She had seen Huo Jingchen the previous night.

But that had been in a dimly lit corridor, and everything had happened so quickly that she hadn’t really gotten a proper look at him.

Now, under the bright daylight streaming through the enormous windows of his office, she finally saw him clearly.

He was handsome.

Not merely handsome.

Very handsome.

His features were exceptionally well-defined—straight nose, sharp jawline, dark brows and deep-set eyes that gave him a naturally imposing appearance.

He had removed his suit jacket and was wearing only a crisp white shirt with the sleeves slightly rolled up.

The simple appearance somehow made him look even better.

Xi Yunxui stared for a second too long.

Then a thought suddenly surfaced from her memories.

There really is some truth to that saying...

A man looks especially handsome when he’s working.

She had always thought people exaggerated when they said such things.

Now she understood.

It was apparently a very serious truth.

At least when it came to Huo Jingchen.

She quickly lowered her eyes.

The eldest young master of the Huo family really does look like someone who belongs in a prestigious family.

"Xi Yunxui."

His voice suddenly pulled her back to reality.

She blinked.

"Yes?"

She immediately remembered why she was here.

"Oh!"

She quickly walked toward his desk.

"I came to deliver these documents."

She held out the folder.

Huo Jingchen reached out and accepted it.

"Thank you."

Xi Yunxui stood quietly while he opened the folder.

He flipped through the documents one by one.

His expression remained calm, but after checking the final page, his shoulders seemed to relax slightly.

"Everything is here."

He closed the folder.

Then looked at her.

"Thank you for bringing them."

Xi Yunxui blinked.

He thanked me?

She knew from the original Xi Yunxui’s memories that Huo Jingchen wasn’t an arrogant or unreasonable man.

He was simply cold and aloof.

He rarely spoke unnecessarily.

So she hadn’t expected him to thank a maid so naturally.

"You’re welcome, Young Master."

She gave a small nod.

Then—

Ding!

[Mission completed!]

[Mission: Personally deliver the documents to Huo Jingchen — COMPLETED.]

[Reward: System Progress +5%.]

[Current System Progress: 18%.]

Xi Yunxui’s eyes brightened.

But the system wasn’t finished.

[Congratulations, Host!]

[The System Store has now been unlocked.]

Xi Yunxui almost smiled.

Finally!

She had been waiting for this.

What kind of things were inside?

Could she buy modern appliances?

Food?

Clothes?

Maybe land?

She was suddenly very interested.

I should check it later.

She turned around.

"I’ll take my leave, Young Master."

She had barely taken one step when—

"Wait."

Xi Yunxui stopped.

She turned around.

"Sir?"

Huo Jingchen looked at her.

For some reason, he had called her back.

But now that she was standing there waiting for him to speak, he suddenly didn’t know what to say.

He stared at her.

Xi Yunxui stared back.

Five seconds passed.

Then ten.

Then fifteen.

Xi Yunxui became increasingly confused.

Did he forget why he called me?

Apparently, he had.

Huo Jingchen finally spoke.

"Can you..."

He paused.

Xi Yunxui waited.

"Can you prepare a meal?"

Xi Yunxui blinked.

"A meal?"

"Yes."

Huo Jingchen glanced toward a door on the other side of the office.

"There is a small kitchen inside."

He looked back at her.

"Can you use it to prepare something for me?"

Xi Yunxui opened her mouth.

Then closed it.

She had expected almost anything except this.

And then—

Ding!

[New Mission detected!]

Xi Yunxui’s expression became serious.

[Mission: Prepare a meal for Huo Jingchen.]

[Special Requirement: Prepare a meal suitable for a sensitive stomach.]

[Huo Jingchen suffers from recurring gastric irritation and must avoid foods that aggravate his condition.]

[Reward: System Progress +3%.]

Xi Yunxui swallowed her response.

So that’s why he asked.

Her expression softened.

She had dealt with stomach problems before.

She knew that someone with a sensitive stomach couldn’t simply eat whatever was available.

She smiled.

"No problem."

Huo Jingchen looked slightly surprised by how quickly she agreed.

"You can?"

"Yes."

Xi Yunxui nodded confidently.

"Where’s the kitchen?"

Huo Jingchen stood.

He walked around his desk.

"Over here."

He led her toward the adjoining room and opened the door.

Xi Yunxui stepped inside.

Then froze.

Her confidence disappeared.

There were machines everywhere.

An oven.

A microwave.

An electric stove.

A refrigerator.

A coffee machine.

Several buttons.

Several glowing displays.

Several things she didn’t even recognize.

Xi Yunxui stared.

What are all these?

She slowly turned toward Huo Jingchen.

He looked at her.

She looked at him.

Neither spoke.

Inside her head, the system remained suspiciously quiet.

Xi Yunxui looked at the stove.

Then the oven.

Then the microwave.

She swallowed.

How am I supposed to cook with these?

She had confidently said she could do it.

Now she was standing in front of modern kitchen equipment like a general who had arrived at a battlefield without weapons.

Huo Jingchen noticed her silence.

"What’s wrong?"

Xi Yunxui smiled stiffly.

"Nothing."

She looked at the machines again.

Absolutely nothing.

Except I don’t know how any of these things work.
