The Huo Family's Troublesome Maid
Chapter 10: A Delivery [1]
Chapter 10: Chapter 10: A Delivery [1]
By the time Xi Yunxui left her apartment, the sky had already begun to darken.
She checked the time on her phone.
It was a little after five in the evening.
"It’s getting late."
She followed the route from her memories and eventually arrived at the Huo residence.
But the moment she entered through the gate, she noticed something unusual.
Auntie Zhang was standing nearby.
And she looked worried.
The moment she saw Xi Yunxui, her eyes immediately lit up.
"Yunxui!"
Xi Yunxui stopped.
"Auntie Zhang?"
Auntie Zhang hurried toward her.
"Thank goodness you’re here."
Before Xi Yunxui could ask what had happened, Auntie Zhang placed a document folder into her hands.
"Take this."
Xi Yunxui stared at the folder.
"What is this?"
"Important documents."
Auntie Zhang pointed toward a car waiting nearby.
"The driver will take you to Huo Corporation. You need to deliver these to the eldest young master personally."
Xi Yunxui’s mouth fell open.
"Personally?"
"Yes."
"You mean... I have to give it directly to him?"
Auntie Zhang nodded firmly.
"Don’t give it to anyone else. Make sure the eldest young master receives it himself."
Xi Yunxui stared at the folder.
Then at the car.
Then back at Auntie Zhang.
How am I supposed to do that?
She had only seen Huo Jingchen once.
And that encounter had involved her walking straight into him.
Now she was supposed to go to his company and enter his office?
She suddenly felt a headache coming.
Then—
[Ding!]
Xi Yunxui’s eyes twitched.
[Mission detected!]
[Mission: Personally deliver the documents to Huo Jingchen.]
[Mission requirement: The documents must be handed directly to the eldest young master.]
[Reward: System Progress +5%.]
Xi Yunxui looked at the folder again.
Five percent.
Her expression became slightly more determined.
Fine.
It was her employer’s request anyway.
She would have done it even without the reward.
Probably.
She looked at the car.
Then at the door.
She had seen cars before.
She had even ridden in one.
But she still wasn’t completely comfortable with them.
She approached the vehicle.
Then stopped.
She looked at the door.
Then at the handle.
Then at the door again.
Auntie Zhang watched her silently.
Xi Yunxui whispered,
"How do I get inside this thing?"
Auntie Zhang’s face went blank.
"You... open the door."
Xi Yunxui nodded seriously.
"Yes. Of course."
She reached toward the handle.
Before she could figure it out, Auntie Zhang opened the door and gently pushed her inside.
"Just sit down."
"Oh."
Xi Yunxui sat in the backseat.
The door closed.
Auntie Zhang stood outside for several seconds.
Her expression seemed to say:
What happened to this girl yesterday?
The driver started the car.
Xi Yunxui sat upright.
She held the documents tightly against her chest.
As the car drove away, she stared out the window.
A problem suddenly occurred to her.
She didn’t know Huo Corporation.
She didn’t know where Huo Jingchen’s office was.
She didn’t know how to get inside.
She didn’t even know whether someone would stop her at the entrance.
She turned toward the driver.
"Sir."
"Yes, Miss Xi?"
"When we arrive..."
"Yes?"
"Will you come inside with me?"
The driver shook his head.
"My duty is to take you to the company entrance."
Xi Yunxui’s expression fell.
"So I have to do it myself?"
"Yes."
She looked down at the folder.
Then imagined the five percent system progress.
She took a deep breath.
"It should be worth it."
The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror.
He didn’t understand what she meant.
---
About twenty minutes later, the car stopped in front of a towering building.
Xi Yunxui slowly looked up.
The Huo Corporation building seemed to reach the sky.
She stared.
"That’s a very tall house."
The driver was silent.
He had no idea what to say to that.
Xi Yunxui got out of the car.
She adjusted her clothes and held the documents firmly.
"Alright."
She walked toward the entrance.
The glass doors were closed.
Xi Yunxui stopped.
She looked around.
Nobody seemed to be opening them.
She took another step.
The moment she approached—
Whoosh!
The doors opened automatically.
Xi Yunxui jumped.
"Ah!"
She took two steps backward.
Several people entering the building turned to look at her.
Xi Yunxui froze.
She slowly looked at the doors.
Then at the people staring.
She scratched her head awkwardly.
"I’m sorry."
She mouthed silently.
I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
Then she quickly walked inside.
The security guards and reception staff exchanged confused glances.
Xi Yunxui stood in the lobby.
Now where?
The building was enormous.
She had absolutely no idea where Huo Jingchen’s office was.
A man in a suit walked past.
Xi Yunxui quickly called out.
"Excuse me, sir!"
The man stopped.
He turned toward her.
"How may I help you?"
Xi Yunxui smiled politely.
"I’m here to deliver a document to the eldest young master of the Huo family."
The man’s expression changed.
He looked her up and down.
"Who are you?"
Xi Yunxui answered honestly.
"I’m a maid from the Huo residence."
The suspicion in his eyes disappeared slightly.
"Oh."
He nodded.
"Then follow me."
Xi Yunxui smiled.
"Thank you."
She followed him.
They eventually stopped in front of what looked like a large metal door.
Xi Yunxui stared at it.
Why are we standing in front of a metal wall?
The man pressed a button.
Xi Yunxui waited.
Nothing happened.
Then—
Ding!
The doors opened.
Xi Yunxui’s eyes widened.
Another one!
She watched the man walk inside.
He looked back.
"Miss?"
Xi Yunxui was still standing outside.
"You should come in."
"Oh."
She quickly stepped inside.
The doors closed.
Xi Yunxui immediately grabbed the handrail.
The elevator began moving.
Her eyes widened.
"What..."
The floor beneath her seemed to move.
She held the railing tighter.
"What’s happening?"
The man looked at her.
Xi Yunxui stared at the numbers above the door.
They were changing.
"Why is the room moving?"
The man stared at her.
For the first time, he seemed genuinely confused.
Is she from a village?
Xi Yunxui continued holding the railing.
"It’s moving."
The man cleared his throat.
"It’s an elevator."
"An elevator?"
"Yes."
"Oh."
She nodded.
Then quietly asked,
"So it is supposed to move?"
"Yes."
Xi Yunxui nodded again.
"Good."
She continued gripping the railing.
Modern technology is frightening.
---
The elevator finally stopped.
The doors opened.
The man stepped out.
Xi Yunxui hurried after him.
She took several steps before stopping.
She looked back at the elevator.
Then patted her chest.
That box moved all the way up without horses.
She took a deep breath.
And it didn’t even stop for a long time.
[Host.]
Xi Yunxui’s eyes shifted.
What?
[That is a normal elevator.]
I know.
[Your reaction suggests otherwise.]
Xi Yunxui became silent.
She wasn’t going to argue with a system.
The man led her down the corridor.
Eventually, they arrived at a reception desk outside a large office.
A young woman sat behind it.
The man spoke to her.
"This is a maid from the Huo residence. She has documents for President Huo."
The secretary looked at Xi Yunxui.
Her gaze traveled from Xi Yunxui’s face to her simple clothes, then to the document folder in her hands.
"You can give them to me."
Xi Yunxui immediately shook her head.
"No."
The secretary raised an eyebrow.
"No?"
"I was specifically instructed to hand them to the eldest young master personally."
The secretary studied her.
"You’re certain?"
"Yes."
Xi Yunxui held the folder tightly.
"I cannot give it to anyone else."
The secretary hesitated.
She looked at the man who had escorted Xi Yunxui.
He gave a small nod.
After a moment, the secretary picked up the intercom.
"President Huo."
She paused.
"There is a maid from the Huo residence here. She says she has documents that must be delivered to you personally."
There was a brief silence.
The secretary listened.
Then she looked at Xi Yunxui.
"You may enter."
Xi Yunxui nodded.
"Thank you."
The man who had escorted her turned and left.
Xi Yunxui stood before the large office door.
She took a deep breath.
She raised her hand.
Knock.
Knock.
A calm voice came from inside.
"Come in."
Xi Yunxui slowly opened the door.
And stepped into the office of the eldest young master.
