Chapter 165: Chapter 165 Talia’s Intervention 1
Talia’s POV
( Readers discretion are advised)
The silver in his blood was winning, and I could feel it in the bond.
It was like a cold hand gripping my heart, and squeezing tighter with every passing second. I had never felt anything like it. The bond was supposed to be a connection of warmth and love, but now it was filled with agony.
Every pulse of pain that shot through Kaelen echoed in my chest, and I could do nothing to stop it.
I could feel the pain, the exhaustion, and the slow creep of poison through his veins. Every beat of his heart was a struggle, and every breath was a battle. The silver was not just hurting him, it was killing him, and I could do nothing to stop it.
I watched Kaelen stagger, with his body covered in wounds, and his dark fur soaked with blood. But he was still standing, and still fighting.
His movements were slow, and heavy, like he was wading through thick mud. The Alpha who had once moved with such grace and power was now struggling to stay upright. I could see the exhaustion in every step, and the weight of the battle pressing down on his shoulders.
I had never seen anyone fight like this.
Kaelen had been wounded so many times, and he had lost so much blood, but he would not fall, and he would not give up. He was fighting for his pack, for his home, and for me.
He had been fighting for hours, and he had been wounded so many times, but he would not stop. He could not stop because he was our Alpha, and because the pack was watching, and I was watching, and i knew that, he would not let us see him break.
And I could see the fire in his eyes, the fire that would not die.
I knew Kaelen was getting to his limits, because I could see the way his legs shook, and I could see it in the way his breathing came in ragged gasps. The silver was poisoning him, and eating away at him from the inside.
But he did not fall.
He forced himself to stand, and he forced himself to fight, as he lunged at Viktor one more time.
I held my breath. I had seen him fight so many times, when I had watched him train, when I had sparred with him, and had felt the power in his strikes. But this was different, because this was not training. This was survival, and this was life or death, and he knew it.
And this time, something changed.
I saw it in the way he moved, that the hesitation was gone, and the doubt was gone. He was no longer fighting to survive, he was fighting to win, and there was a difference between the two that I could see clearly now.
Kaelen was faster suddenly, but I realized that, he was pushing through the last thread of strength that he has.
He ducked under Viktor’s swing and drove his claws into the rogue Alpha’s side. Viktor howled in pain.
The sound echoed across the courtyard. It was a sound of rage and surprise, because Viktor had not expected Kaelen to fight back like this. He had expected him to fall, to break, and to surrender long before now, but Kaelen was not surrendering, and he was not giving up.
Viktor stumbled two steps back.
For just a moment, Viktor looked surprised, as his eyes widened, and his mouth opened slightly, because he had not expected this. He had expected Kaelen to fall, to break, and to beg for mercy. But Kaelen was not begging, he was fighting.
Kaelen pressed his advantage, striking again and again. His claws raked across Viktor’s chest, his shoulder, and his left arm, and blood sprayed from the wounds.
I watched the dark liquid fall to the ground, staining the blood-soaked earth even darker. The sight should have made me sick, but instead, it filled me with a cold satisfaction, because Viktor was bleeding. He was not invincible like he thinks he is, he could be hurt, and he could be beaten.
The Shadowfang wolves roared, with a sound that was deafening. They had seen their Alpha falling, and now they were watching him rise.
Kaelen was relentless.
Every strike was a promise, and every blow was a declaration. He was not just fighting for himself, he was fighting for every wolf in this stronghold; For the elders in the safe rooms, the pups hiding in the darkness, and the warriors bleeding in the dirt. He carried all of them on his shoulders, and he would not let them down.
He was fighting like a wolf possessed, and like a wolf who had nothing left to lose.
Kaelen’s claws found Viktor’s face.
I saw the blood spray, and I saw the flesh split open. Viktor’s face was a mask of fury and pain. He had been marked, he had been scarred, and he would never forget the wolf who had done it to him.
The rogue Alpha screamed as blood poured from the wound across his cheek.
The cheering grew louder, and soon wolves began to howl.
The sound was like nothing I had ever heard, as it was raw, primal, and full of hope. These wolves had been fighting for hours, they had seen their friends fall, and they had seen their home threatened.
And now, they were seeing their Alpha fight for them with all his strength.
I could hear the voices of our pack rising in triumph. They had seen their Alpha fall, and they had watched him struggle. And now, they were watching him rise again, and they were cheering for their Alpha, with a sound of hope, of victory, and of pride.
And it was a sound that made my heart swell.
From across the battlefield, I saw Viktor’s Beta move. He was pushing through the chaos, and heading toward the fight. I knew that he was going to interfere, and he was going to try to save his Alpha.
But Cain was faster.
Cain intercepted him, with his sword flashing. The Beta was huge, and even larger than Viktor, but Cain did not hesitate, and he did not flinch. He met the attack head-on, with his blade singing through the air. The two clashed, and the sound of metal against bone echoed across the battlefield.
The fight was brutal, Beta to Beta.
This was not just a fight between warriors, this was a fight between seconds-in-command. The outcome of this fight, which was not supposed to happen, if Viktor’s beta had not interfered, would no doubt decide the morale of both armies.
