The Hero Given to the Demon Queen
Chapter 9: Residual Heat
Residual Heat
Elara did not wake.
She lay in the center of the great bed, skin pale against black sheets, breathing shallow and uneven. The rare elixir had closed the worst of the wounds, but angry red lines and fresh scars still mapped her stomach and side. Her golden hair was damp with sweat and scattered across the pillow; here and there loose strands had already come away, evidence of the strain her body could no longer hide. The white gown from the dinner had been cut away by the healers. She was covered only by a light sheet drawn to her chest.
Lilith remained in the chamber long after the guards had withdrawn.
She sat in a high-backed chair near the bed, chin resting on one hand, crimson eyes fixed on the unconscious girl. The memory of that wrong smile—the laughter that had not belonged to Elara—still lingered like a bad taste. Several times she extended her senses, probing the seals she had placed on the hero’s power.
Nothing answered.
No foreign presence. No hidden divinity. No second soul. Only the tightly bound, familiar spark of the girl she had claimed, now dimmed by blood loss and shock.
“A moment of madness,” Lilith murmured at last, almost to herself. “That is all. I saw what I expected to see in the chaos.”
Still she did not leave.
Hours passed. The floating crystals shifted from violet toward a deeper dusk. Elara did not stir except for the faint twitch of fingers or the soft catch of breath that sometimes escaped her. Lilith watched the slow fall of another strand of golden hair against the pillow and felt something tight and proprietary twist in her chest.
She is too fragile like this.
She must come to me properly. Willingly. Broken in the ways I choose, not like a shattered doll.
The thought should have been enough to make her rise and go.
Instead she stood and crossed to the bed.
For a long time she only looked. Then, with deliberate care, she drew the sheet down. Elara’s body was revealed inch by inch—pale, marked, still. Lilith’s breathing changed. The residual unease from the dinner hall warred with a deeper, older hunger. Her fingers hovered, then settled against the side of Elara’s throat, feeling the weak pulse. From there they trailed lower, over the collarbone, across the soft curve of one breast. She cupped it fully, thumb dragging slow circles over the nipple until it tightened under her touch even in unconsciousness.
Elara’s brow furrowed faintly. A thin sound escaped her lips.
“…don’t…”
The single slurred word almost stopped Lilith.
Almost.
She exhaled slowly, eyes darkening, and continued. The sheet was pushed fully aside. She leaned down, crimson hair spilling across Elara’s skin, and closed her mouth over the nipple. Her tongue moved in slow, proprietary strokes—flat, wet, deliberate—before she sucked the peak between her lips with open, greedy pressure. Saliva gathered quickly. She switched to the other breast, licking a shining path across the valley between them, then sealed her mouth again, sucking harder this time, the wet, rhythmic sound of it filling the quiet chamber.
Her free hand slid lower at the same time, tracing the healing scars, the plane of the stomach, until her fingers rested against the soft heat between Elara’s thighs. She did not push inside. She only parted the folds with two fingers, spreading her open, and stroked the slick inner skin in slow, thorough passes. The pad of her thumb found the sensitive bud above and circled it with firm, wet pressure while her mouth continued its work on Elara’s breast.
The door to the chamber had not closed completely.
In the narrow gap, Nyx stood frozen.
She had come to check—curiosity, obsession, residual fear from the dinner, she could not have said which. Now she could not look away. The sight of her sister bent over the hero’s still body, mouth working wetly at her breast, fingers spreading and stroking between her legs, sent a violent flush through her. Nyx’s own breathing turned ragged. A quick, desperate weave of power dampened her presence until she was little more than a shadow in the corridor. Her hand slipped beneath her own clothes almost without permission—fingers already slick, pushing two of them inside herself with a soft, choked sound she barely managed to swallow.
Inside the room, Lilith’s control frayed further. She released Elara’s breast only long enough to shrug her own gown from her shoulders. Bare skin met the cool air. She climbed onto the bed, straddling one of Elara’s thighs, and returned her mouth to the girl’s chest while her free hand worked between her own legs with increasing urgency. Two fingers plunged deep, the wet, open sound of it loud in the silence, then withdrew to circle her clit hard before driving back in. Soft, filthy noises mixed with the quieter ones of her tongue still licking and sucking at Elara’s nipple. Lilith’s hips moved in small, restless circles against her own hand. Clear slickness gathered and began to drip in warm strands onto Elara’s thigh.
In the corridor, Nyx mirrored her sister without meaning to. Fingers moving fast and deep, eyes locked on the scene, a broken little sound trapped behind her teeth. Shame burned under the arousal, but she could not stop. When release took her it was sudden and almost painful—thighs clamping around her hand, a choked whimper escaping before she bit down on her own wrist to stay silent. She staggered back from the door as if burned, still trembling.
What am I doing?
Watching my sister touch her—touching myself like some desperate—
Nyx fled down the corridor before she could be discovered, heart hammering with equal parts lust and self-disgust.
On the bed, a single tear slipped from the corner of Elara’s closed eye and traced a clean path through the faint sheen of sweat on her temple.
Lilith saw it.
The sight cut through the haze of her own rising climax more effectively than any blade. She froze, mouth still against Elara’s skin, fingers still pressed between the girl’s thighs and buried in her own. For several heartbeats she remained there, breathing hard, the tear’s path holding her gaze like an accusation, her own wetness still dripping slowly onto the unconscious body beneath her.
Slowly—against the sharp protest of her own body—she pulled back.
Her hand lingered a moment longer on Elara’s thigh, stroking almost absently through the slick she had left there, before she forced herself to withdraw completely. She sat on the edge of the bed, naked, jaw tight, staring at the girl who still had not woken. The hunger had not vanished. It simply waited, coiled and resentful, beneath the thin layer of reasserted control.
Lilith dressed in silence. Then she drew the sheet back over Elara’s body with careful precision, smoothing it as if the earlier violation had not occurred. She paused once more at the side of the bed, crimson eyes unreadable.
“You will surrender,” she said softly, though the girl could not hear her. “In the end you will. I will not keep taking from a body that only weeps in its sleep.”
She left the chamber and locked the door behind her.
In the corridor the air still felt faintly charged. Lilith stood there longer than necessary, one hand against the cool stone, listening to the quiet of the wing and to the slower, heavier beat of her own pulse.
Something about the hero continued to pull at her in ways she had not anticipated.
She did not like it.
But she would not let it go.
