The Hero Given to the Demon Queen
Chapter 10: Night Intrusion
Night Intrusion
Two hours after the Queen left, the citadel wing had fallen into its deepest quiet.
Nyx stood in the shadows outside Elara’s door, listening. No footsteps. No voices. Her sister’s private chambers were far enough away that, at this hour, Lilith would almost certainly be asleep—or at least occupied. The thought alone sent a hot, unsteady pulse through Nyx’s body.
She pressed her palm to the lock and whispered a thin, hurried seal—nothing as strong as her sister’s work, just enough to keep casual intruders out. Then she slipped inside and closed the door behind her with exquisite care.
Elara still had not woken.
She lay exactly as Lilith had left her, sheet drawn to her chest, breathing shallow, skin too pale. Fresh scars marked her stomach. Strands of golden hair clung to the pillow. The sight of her—helpless, marked, unaware—hit Nyx like a physical blow.
She crossed the room on silent feet.
For a moment she only stood over the bed, red eyes drinking in every detail. Then her hands moved. She drew the sheet down slowly, revealing the full length of Elara’s body. A soft, shaky exhale left her. She leaned in and pressed her mouth to the inside of one wrist, then the bend of the elbow, the soft skin of the upper arm. Each kiss was lingering, almost reverent, and increasingly hungry—tongue dragging wet trails, lips sucking faint marks into the pale skin.
She worked her way across collarbones, down the center of the chest, pausing to breathe in the scent of healing skin and faint residual magic. When she reached the breasts she made a low, helpless sound. Her hands closed around them—not gently. She squeezed hard, thumbs dragging roughly over the nipples until they tightened, then lowered her mouth. She licked a broad, wet stripe across one peak, then sealed her lips around it and sucked with open, greedy need. Saliva gathered quickly at the corner of her mouth and dripped in a thin strand onto Elara’s skin. She switched to the other breast, biting lightly, then sucking harder, the wet, rhythmic sounds of her mouth filling the quiet room.
Nyx’s breathing had already turned ragged. She could not stop touching long enough to undress properly. One hand stayed on Elara’s body—squeezing, pinching, spreading the wetness her tongue left behind—while the other fumbled at her own clothes, shoving fabric down and aside until she was bare from the waist. She climbed onto the bed, straddling one of Elara’s thighs, and returned her mouth to the girl’s breasts with a soft, desperate huff of pleasure. Her free hand slid between her own legs.
Two fingers pushed inside herself at once, the wet sound loud and shameless. She rocked against them while she licked and bit and sucked, eyes half-lidded, lost in the feel of the unconscious body beneath her. Clear slickness coated her knuckles and began to drip onto Elara’s thigh. The temptation to go lower—to spread Elara’s legs, press her mouth between them, and finally taste what her sister had only touched—rose sharp and almost overwhelming. Her hips moved faster. Her tongue dragged wetly from one nipple to the other, leaving shining trails.
A soft metallic sound came from the door.
Nyx froze.
Another quiet scrape. Someone was testing the lock.
Panic punched through the haze of lust. Nyx scrambled backward off the bed, snatching her scattered clothes in shaking arms, and bolted for the bathing chamber. She did not dare close its door fully—only pressed herself into the darkest corner, naked, heart hammering so hard she thought it might give her away. Her fingers were still slick with her own wetness; the air still carried the scent of what she had been doing.
Outside, Commander Thalira stood in the corridor, grey eyes cold and calculating.
The hero was alone. Unconscious. Fragile. A single decisive act and the Queen’s dangerous obsession could be removed. Accidents happened. Weak humans died of delayed complications from their wounds all the time. Thalira set her hand to the lock and pushed power into it.
The door did not yield.
She tried again, more force, then a precise dismantling charm. The seal held—crude but effective, and unfamiliar. Not the Queen’s work, yet strong enough to resist her. Thalira’s eyes narrowed. After several long, silent minutes she stepped back.
The Queen must have reinforced it after the dinner incident.
Unfortunate.
She turned and walked away without further sound, already revising her plans.
In the bathing chamber, Nyx had both hands clamped over her mouth. Tears of pure terror stood in her eyes. If Thalira had gotten in—if her sister ever learned she had been here tonight, touching what belonged to the Queen while the girl lay helpless, mouth and fingers wet with need—
She would not forgive it.
She would not be merciful.
Nyx waited until the corridor had been silent for a full twenty minutes. Only then did she risk moving. She dressed with clumsy, shaking hands, returned to the bed, and hastily drew the sheet back over Elara’s body. The faint wet trails her mouth and fingers had left still shone on the girl’s skin in the low light. She could not look at what she had done for long. The hunger was still there, coiled and furious at being interrupted, but fear was stronger.
She crossed to the door, listened again, then slipped out into the empty hall. The little seal she had placed dissolved behind her with a faint hiss.
Nyx did not run.
But every step that carried her away from the hero’s chamber felt like both escape and defeat.
In the dark room, Elara slept on—unaware of how close she had come to being claimed by someone other than the Queen, and unaware of how close she had come to being erased entirely.
