The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered

Chapter 223 - 222: A Smile Won’t Disappear, But It Will Transfer

"Oh, that’s right!" Rosalind Lynch’s eyes lit up as she gave the two of them a teasing look.

’This little couple probably used a business trip as an excuse to sneak off on a date, didn’t they?’

’This is great! Her darling son finally has a brain!’

Yvonne Lowell cleared her throat. "After we finished our work, we did spend a few days having fun together."

As soon as the words left her mouth, the two ladies’ expressions became a bit complicated.

How to put it? It was... a pleasant surprise, yet tinged with a hint of regret?

Wendy Sutton chided playfully, "Only a few days? You should take a proper break after you’re done with work. You two shouldn’t just focus on your jobs all the time. There’s no end to making money, and it’s not like our families are hurting for it."

Yvonne Lowell broke into a nervous sweat. She didn’t dare say they had been together for almost a month.

’If word of this got back to the old men of the Lowell family, even if nothing had happened between them, Leo would probably be barred from the Lowell home for life.’

So she simply changed the subject. "By the way, Ms. Sutton, we ran into your eldest son at a banquet in Country A last night. He flew to Continent O overnight right after the banquet ended. Shouldn’t you be worried about him instead?"

Wendy Sutton pursed her lips. "What’s there to be sorry about? Isn’t he still busy with work? Besides, he’s single. What else can he do but work?

"He already can’t find a girlfriend. If he doesn’t even have a decent job, it’ll be even harder, won’t it?"

Yvonne’s lip twitched at the string of questions. ’Great. It’s confirmed. Lowell is just a tool, a natural-born corporate slave.’

Caleb Lowell: Fine, fine, fine. So I’m just your average, run-of-the-mill ATM, is that it?

Rosalind Lynch, on the other hand, looked at Leo Grant suspiciously. "Did your dad give you trouble? It wasn’t him who rushed you back, was it?"

Leo Grant neither confirmed nor denied it, simply stating lightly, "Dad does occasionally talk to me about business matters."

But to Rosalind Lynch, who was desperate to become a mother-in-law, his calm expression looked pitiful and aggrieved no matter how she saw it.

Rosalind Lynch let out a hollow laugh. ’Discussing business? She wasn’t buying it for a second.’

’That old coot isn’t an idiot. Why would he need to discuss business with his son?’

’Hah. No wonder her darling son was willing to give up such a golden opportunity for some alone time with his future daughter-in-law. It must be because that old coot keeps showing up and causing trouble for him.’

’So ridiculous. It’s not like the man never studied business or held a job. What’s wrong with him handling some of his son’s work for him?’

Seeing Rosalind Lynch’s expression shift from disdain to pity and then to anger, Yvonne Lowell secretly gave Leo Grant a thumbs-up. ’He’d really mastered the art of killing with a borrowed knife.’

’A world in which only Uncle Grant suffers has been created.’

Leo Grant subtly brushed her thumb away and smoothly enveloped her hand in his, continuing to chat with the two elders with an unchanged expression.

Yvonne Lowell couldn’t figure out how he managed to make Ms. Sutton roar with laughter while keeping such a deadpan face.

’Is this what they call pretty privilege?’

Only Mr. Grant, diligently working far away at the Grant Group, inexplicably sneezed several times in a row.

But he was chuckling and muttering to himself: ’My wife must be missing me again. Why isn’t that brat back yet? If he doesn’t get back soon, I’ll just give the entire staff a vacation so nothing stops me from going home to be with my wife.’

Since it was rare for both of them to be back, the two families gathered for dinner at the Lowell Family’s villa. It was just a matter of crossing a bridge anyway.

However, none of Yvonne Lowell’s brothers were home, so it was just the three members of the Lowell family and the four members of the Grant family.

Seeing his darling son was finally back, Mr. Grant was cheerful all evening, insisting on having a few more drinks with Charles Lowell.

It wasn’t until he got home, had a pillow shoved into his arms by Rosalind Lynch, and was kicked out of the master bedroom that the smile finally fell from his face.

Indeed, a smile doesn’t disappear; it just moves.

Leo Grant: Hehe.

Mr. Grant: Not hehe.

...

After dinner, Yvonne Lowell returned to Tidalview.

There was no one at home to take charge right now, and she had no desire to be a third wheel to her parents’ public displays of affection. She’d just let Goldie alone... ah, no, let a single dog stomach it.

Goldie: And you call that polite?! ◡ヽ(`Д´)ノ┻━┻

When she saw Silas Lynch at Tidalview, Yvonne Lowell’s expression became intriguing.

She felt that he was exuding a faint sense of satisfaction, yet at the same time, there seemed to be an air of frustrated resentment about him. It was... quite a contradiction.

But it wasn’t surprising when she thought about it. Old Man Jennings had gone to Country M last week, saying he suddenly had a lead and wanted to develop a new drug. The lab equipment and medicinal ingredients there were more complete.

So Silas Lynch was alone in Kingsland, working during the day and then overtime at night. After working overtime until the early hours of the morning, he still had to go home to an empty house. It would be strange if he didn’t feel some resentment.

Silas Lynch felt his skin crawl under her stare. It was exactly like the look the Lowells gave his master. He asked, a bit unnaturally,

"Miss... Miss Lowell, is something wrong?"

Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Still calling me Miss Lowell?"

"Well... we can’t just throw away the rules." Silas Lynch’s eyes darted away as he gave a sheepish laugh.

’That was one reason. On the other hand, even though his relationship with his girlfriend was stable, he still had to stay on her good side, right?’

’He wasn’t blind. Although Miss Lowell was younger than his girlfriend, his girlfriend listened to her most of the time.’

’The future matriarch of the family, and his future sister-in-law. He couldn’t afford to offend her.’

’What if he pissed her off one day and she just hid his future wife from him? Who would he go crying to then?’

’Would crying to his master be any use? Would his master even help him?’

’Maybe he would. At least he might help me have a less painful departure from this world?’

"Alright, I’ll stop teasing you." Yvonne Lowell waved her hand dismissively and turned to Leo Grant. "I’m heading back across."

"Okay, I’ll come over after I finish assigning this work," Leo Grant said, patting her head.

His dear old dad had already thrown up his hands, planning to wash his hands of everything, so he had to sort out the Grant Group’s work tonight.

Fortunately, Silas Lynch had been giving him daily reports, so he had a good grasp of the situation. It wouldn’t take much time.

As soon as Yvonne Lowell left, the smile on Leo Grant’s face faded.

He shot Silas Lynch a look of slight disgust, turned, and headed for the study. "Pathetic. Hurry up and follow me."

Silas Lynch: ...

Meanwhile, Yvonne Lowell returned to her villa, curled up on the sofa, and fell deep in thought.

She had actually returned this time not only to accompany her third brother to his exam in Loster in a little while, but also for another, more important reason—Leo Grant’s birthday was coming up.

There was only a week left, but she still hadn’t figured out what gift to get him.
