The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered
Chapter 219 - 218: Today’s Good Deed
Yvonne Lowell pondered for a moment, then started walking toward them.
When they saw Yvonne Lowell approach, the four refugees huddled together, trembling even more violently. Fear shone in their eyes, and their faces were a mess of tears and snot.
But they hadn’t forgotten Yvonne Lowell’s initial warning. They kept their mouths tightly covered, struggling not to make the slightest sound.
They were afraid of disturbing her and making her angry.
’This woman’s Divine Power is clearly far stronger than those two Messengers. She killed them without breaking a sweat. Are we going to suffer the same fate?’
Yvonne Lowell sighed internally. ’Oops, looks like I scared them a little too much.’
She walked over, squatted in front of them, and said in a deliberately cold voice, "All four of you, raise your heads and look into my eyes."
The four of them shakily raised their heads. Heaven only knew what it took for them to dare to look up at the bizarre mask and meet the eyes of this ’Messenger’.
’So there’s no escape...’
’Makes sense. We witnessed everything. How could they possibly let us leave unharmed?’
’Looks like we’re about to meet our deaths. Well, that’s still better than living in this hell on earth...’
A silver vortex gradually began to swirl in Yvonne Lowell’s eyes, her voice taking on a strangely persuasive and guiding quality.
"Nothing happened tonight. Sleep peacefully. When you wake up, everything will be fine."
As their eyes grew vacant, Yvonne Lowell snapped her fingers.
THUMP, THUMP, THUMP, THUMP.
All four of them closed their eyes and collapsed to the ground.
’Whoa! So badass!’
If Yvonne Lowell had turned around then, she would have seen the perfect picture of someone utterly gobsmacked.
Yvonne Lowell stood up and gave the order, "That’s enough. Take them out of this district. Find an empty shelter and just place them inside."
When they woke the next morning, they would have forgotten about those two goons ’awakening their Divine Status,’ and they would have forgotten everything that happened in this district.
’It doesn’t matter to me whether they were willing participants tonight or not.’
’If they were willing, then I’m just cleaning up the mess and covering our tracks.’
’Whether they repeat their mistakes and try to become Messengers of God again has nothing to do with me.’
’If they weren’t, then I’ve not only cleaned up but also soothed the poor little souls I terrified.’
’Willing or not, it doesn’t matter. I was just doing my good deed for the day. My karma points are all topped up.’
No one questioned Yvonne Lowell’s decision. A few of her subordinates stepped forward, hoisting the four sleeping figures as easily as if they were baby chicks, and walked straight out.
They also wrapped the unconscious Brown in a bedsheet, bundled him up, and carried him away.
Only their group remained, walking behind the others. Leon furtively sidled up to Yvonne Lowell.
"Lowell, didn’t you say you were going to test a theory on that old bastard? What did you find out? Was he the Space Ability User?"
Yvonne Lowell pursed her lips. "His henchman was the Space Ability User. He’s Poison Element. A pity his level was too low. He couldn’t leverage his power in the slightest."
"What the fuck?! How does he deserve one?! I don’t even have a superpower, but that old bastard does!" Leon was so mad he was practically hopping on the spot.
God knows how much he envied his friends for having superpowers. Even these small-time nobodies had them, but he lacked the potential.
Cole: ...’So this is what friendly bullying looks like? You’re ostracizing me? I guess I’m not included in ’friends,’ am I?’
"Let’s go. We have an early flight tomorrow morning."
Yvonne Lowell was used to him getting triggered over this, so she ignored him and kept walking.
All traces of their presence were wiped clean, leaving behind only scattered corpses and refugees still lost in their dreams.
...
"Lowell, can I borrow Brother Grant for a moment?"
Zachary Jacobs rubbed his hands together, looking at the perfect couple standing by their hotel room door.
Yvonne Lowell raised an eyebrow. "He’s right here. Why are you asking me?"
"Well, I figured I should get your permission first," Zachary Jacobs said with a sheepish grin.
Leo Grant released the arm he had around her waist. "You get some rest. I’ll be back in a little while."
Yvonne Lowell’s gaze flickered between the two of them, but she said nothing more and simply pushed the door open to enter her room.
The two men exchanged a look and walked out onto the terrace.
Leo Grant got straight to the point. "Is this about tonight?"
Zachary Jacobs didn’t answer, instead asking, "When she prepared that medicinal bath for Warren Lynch, you were there. You saw his reaction, right?"
He had been in front of the monitors at the time, so he had heard their conversation perfectly clearly.
He knew Yvonne Lowell had confided a lot in Leo Grant, but he was also well aware that she would gloss over all the suffering she had personally endured.
When she first returned to the Lowell Family, several of her identities were revealed.
He still vividly remembered the online controversy, how it seemed as though all of Yvonne Lowell’s accomplishments had come overnight.
People chalked it all up to her being lucky—that even after getting lost, she had such absurdly good fortune. It was laughable.
’Technically, it’s not my place to meddle in their relationship, but I’m going to overstep my bounds just this once. Let’s just call it... giving a drafty leather jacket to the older sister who’s always sheltered me from the storm.’
"Yes," Leo Grant said. "The process was agonizing."
Leo Grant’s hands clenched unconsciously. He knew what was coming next was not something he wanted to hear.
"Yes, agonizing. And she endured that same bath no fewer than thirty times," Zachary Jacobs said, gazing into the night, his expression unreadable.
Leo Grant opened his mouth, but his throat felt constricted, as if blocked by something. He couldn’t utter a single word.
Not hearing a response, Zachary Jacobs paid it no mind and continued speaking as if to himself.
"She was so desperate to get stronger back then, to protect the two of us. She was taking a massive gamble, with no idea if she’d get the outcome she wanted."
"But thankfully, her wish was granted in the end, and she basically unlocked a final boss."
"Brother Grant, she’s even shown you her biggest trump card. You won’t let her lose, will you?"
"Of course I won’t! The gentleman’s agreement I have with Leogryph applies to you as well." This time, Leo Grant’s answer was swift and certain, without a trace of hesitation.
"Don’t say that. My bite isn’t sharp enough to tear you to shreds like Leogryph." Zachary Jacobs, who had been standing ramrod straight, finally relaxed, a relieved smile on his face.
"It’s getting late. My sister is probably waiting for you. You should go back, brother-in-law."
Leo Grant didn’t say anything else. He just patted Zachary’s shoulder and turned back to the room.
Hearing the door open, Yvonne Lowell looked up from her phone. She glanced at his face, saw that his expression was normal, and went back to looking at her screen without asking what they had discussed.
’Oh well. Someone already did the explaining for me, free of charge. Saved me the trouble of having to ’casually’ bring it up myself.’
