The Heiress They Lost Came Back Overpowered
Chapter 165 - 164: Purification of the Six Roots Brings Great Enlightenment
Alan Knight sulkily shut his mouth. ’The boss is terrifying today...’
’Luna is so screwed this time. Staying out all night just when the boss is in a foul mood, and on top of that, she secretly hooked up with a wild wolf and made the boss a grandma-to-be.’
Yvonne Lowell waved her hand. "That’s enough. Go on and get busy. Don’t mind me."
’I need some peace and quiet. I suddenly get how my dad must have felt when I first started dating. It’s a story full of tears.’
"Boss, things have been really piling up in the organization lately. I was wondering..." Alan Knight asked tentatively.
"Hmm? Of course I know there’s a lot to do. That’s why I’m telling you to hurry and get to it. You can do it! I believe in you."
She even gave him a little fist pump to cheer him on.
’I was asking you for help! What are you cheering about?! ARGH!! Am I supposed to be filling up with regular or premium?! And those other two won’t even come back! This is completely off the rails!!!’
The hope in Alan Knight’s eyes instantly vanished, replaced by a smile that looked more painful than a grimace.
"Yes, Boss. I’ll get back to work, then."
Watching Alan Knight arrive in high spirits only to leave in dejection, Yvonne Lowell’s lips curled into a playful smirk.
’I just came here for a few days to relax and have some fun, and this kid actually thinks he can trick me into working? Not a chance.’
’Work? I’m never going to work. Not in this lifetime.’
She got up and patted the Leogryph’s head. "Come on, let’s go upstairs and have some fun."
Once they reached the top floor, the Leogryph found a comfortable spot for itself on the living room carpet and lay down.
Yvonne Lowell sat down as well, leaning against the Leogryph’s back. She absentmindedly stroked its mane, feeling a little sentimental.
"I can’t believe it. Your little sister actually found a boyfriend all by herself. I thought you two would grow old and lonely together."
"ROAR!" ’She’s not my sister!’
"Do you want a wife? If you do, I can figure out a way to get one for you. It’d be nice for you to have a companion."
"ROAR!" ’You just worry about being my servant and stay out of my business!’
The Leogryph lifted an eyelid to give her a sidelong glance, then closed it again.
"I don’t know what you said, but it sounded pretty vulgar. Are you mad at me for taking too long to find you a wife?" Yvonne Lowell scratched its chin.
"ROAR!" ’Would you stop being so ridiculous?!’
The Leogryph shook its head and turned it completely to the other side, ignoring her.
’He didn’t want a wife. Otherwise, he’d end up like Luna’s mate, getting beat up every day.’
’Being single is better. Only with a pure heart, free from worldly distractions, can one achieve true enlightenment.’
Yvonne Lowell found this amusing. "Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing you. You can be a bachelor for life, how’s that?"
Having received a satisfactory answer, the Leogryph stopped growling.
Just as the woman and the Leogryph were starting to drift off, the phone in Yvonne Lowell’s pocket rang.
The Leogryph’s sharp eyes snapped open, its gaze fixed on the source of the sound.
Yvonne Lowell pulled out her phone and glanced at the screen. It was a video call from "Mr. Gorgeous." She swiped to answer.
The next second, the man’s exquisitely handsome face filled the screen. His wet hair was plastered to his forehead, and droplets of water traced the contours of his face, rolling past his Adam’s apple before disappearing into the collar of his black silk robe.
Yvonne Lowell swallowed hard. "What’s with the sudden call?"
’A handsome man, fresh from the bath... Now this is a sight to behold.’
Noticing her reaction, a shrewd glint flashed in Leo Grant’s eyes.
He moved the phone a little further away, a movement that caused his already slightly open robe to loosen even more. The deep V-neck revealed a broad expanse of his fair, toned chest.
"I missed you," Leo Grant said, his expression placid, as if he had simply stretched his arm out. "Have you been there long?"
He only knew that Yvonne Lowell had gone abroad. She hadn’t said where exactly, so he hadn’t asked.
Yvonne Lowell glared at him and snapped, "No. Not even an hour."
’Damn it! What a tease! As if I don’t know he’s doing this on purpose!’
’So close, yet so far... it’s infuriating! That scheming man!’
Leo Grant watched his flustered Little Marshmallow on the screen, amused.
Feigning ignorance, he kept the phone held at a distance and changed the subject. "Why are you lying on the floor?"
"Because my giant body pillow isn’t allowed on the bed, and the sofa is too small."
As she spoke, Yvonne Lowell raised the phone higher, bringing the back of the Leogryph’s head into view.
Leo Grant’s pupils constricted. Her face had been taking up most of the screen, so all he had seen was Yvonne Lowell resting her head on a yellow "pillow" and a corner of the carpet.
’He never expected it to be a male lion—a live one!’
’Damn, that’s so cool! My girlfriend is such a badass!’
"Is that the Leogryph you told me about?"
As if it heard someone call its name, the Leogryph glanced back.
’All he saw was the human still lounging on his back, holding that stupid black box with something talking inside it. Boring.’ He turned his head away and went back to resting his eyes.
Yvonne Lowell raised her eyebrows in surprise. "It’s been so long, and you still remember?"
"Of course. I remember every word you’ve ever said to me." After a pause, Leo Grant added, "But are you sure it’s okay to just lie on him like that?"
"It’s fine. They’re all used to it," Yvonne Lowell said with an indifferent shrug.
"The Leogryph and Big Bear were entrusted to me by their mothers. As for The Mountain Lord, he was abandoned by his mother for being too weak. He was just an unweaned cub when I found him."
"As for Luna... I bought her at an underground auction on Continent Q, along with an injured she-wolf."
"Wolves are monogamous and have large litters."
"So I couldn’t help but get involved. I had Felix Knight look into what happened to the male wolf and the other pups. Turns out, they were all dead."
"After that, I brought the mother and daughter back with me. Perhaps because she knew her child was finally safe, the mother wolf held on until Luna was weaned, and then she passed away."
Yvonne Lowell had raised every single one of them herself. All her patience over the past few years had been spent on these creatures. From feeding to training, she did it all personally.
She only relaxed her grip once they could roam the manor freely without harming anyone. In that sense, she was more of a mother to them than their own birth mothers.
While she wouldn’t call herself obsessed, she did have a soft spot for fluffy things.
And since pets tend to take after their owners, every one of them was meticulously clean.
So, once they started getting bigger, she often used them as pillows. By now, they’ve all given up resisting and just accepted their fate.
Leo Grant froze for a second, thinking he’d misheard. "Did you just say... ’they’? You have more than one lion?"
"ROAR!" ’What nonsense are you spouting?! I’m my mom’s one and only lion!! A limited edition, you get it?!’
Hearing this, the Leogryph turned its head and roared unhappily at the stupid black box.
