THE GOD EATER

Chapter 528: Spirit Creatures.

Then he shook his head and said, “I should have known that there was nothing good to eat about it. If there was something great about it, Fenrir would have informed me just after seeing it. The only thing I’ve learned after wasting all of that lifespan is that it is worse than worthless.”

After taking one last look at the sea of death, he took to the sky. He didn’t want to linger about this black sea any longer than necessary because he had been spooked by it.

What had spooked him was how he had lost the lifespan and law fragment. He had lost those things because a mysterious force had descended onto Fenrir in the core of his Cave Heaven through the black forcefield.

That force had bypassed all of his defenses to reach the core of his very being, even though he didn’t touch the black sea with his body. He had only touched it with an ability, yet the effect had been so unnerving.

He could only imagine how much worse the situation would be if he somehow fell into the black sea. But even thinking about such a sorry state only made him want to create as much distance between himself and the sea of death so that he won’t fall into it.

The second heaven was the direct opposite of the sea of death in appearance and in experience. In appearance, it looked like a white blanket in the sky. So it could be called a white sea as opposed to the black sea below.

When he crossed the threshold of the white firmament and entered the second heaven, the feeling was also different. He felt that his Cave Heaven had distanced itself from him and couldn’t be mobilized for power.

This feeling was the opposite of when his Cave Heaven was easily accessible by a mysterious force. He felt it vividly because he lost the ability to fly and had to walk.

This need to walk was a feeling he hadn’t felt since he became a rank 4 being with a Mind Palace. So the impact of his inability to use his Cave Heaven was something he couldn’t ignore at all.

After getting used to his feet being back on the ground, he continued to look around. The second heaven was also more colorful. Everywhere he looked, he saw various creatures and objects. The whole place was as populated as a forest.

There were mountains, lakes, deer, trees, snails, rabbits, and many more things. At first glance, everything looked normal. But in closer examination, things weren’t as normal as they appeared.

The first oddity that stood out to him was that the color and appearance of everything was wrong. First of all, the ground was red. The ground was also smooth and soft like silk.

Secondly, the water in the lake wasn’t blue. It was colorless and looked like glass.

In fact, the water was so see-through that it was very difficult to tell that there was water in the lake. If not for the green crystal fishes swimming in the lake without fins or gills, he wouldn’t have suspected that the basin was full of water.

That was another thing that was wrong. The fish only had the outward appearance of a fish. They didn’t have mouths, eyes, or gills. Plus, they moved around without any fins or movement of their bodies.

But the fish weren’t the only odd ones out. Other animals were also lacking things that they should have for survival. They were blind, lacked lips, teeth, and a mouth altogether. Many of them also didn’t have nostrils to breathe through.

As if this wasn’t weird enough, the food chain was wrong. Prey didn’t eat plants, and predators didn’t eat prey. Everything ate each other and only each other.

That means, the trees ate trees, rabbits ate rabbits, deer ate deer, and tigers ate tigers. Since they didn’t have mouthparts, the eating wasn’t carried out as it normally should. The animals would just find each other and fuse with each other on contact.

Everywhere he looked, different creatures were fusing with each other. It seemed that everything spent most of its time looking for another creature of its kind to fuse with or fusing with other creatures of its kind.

Even the lake wasn’t exempt from this cannibalism. As he watched, the lake moved over the surface of the ground towards another lake. When the two lakes met, they fused with one another and became a bigger lake.

While this was going on, the fish in the lakes were also fusing with each other. So while the lakes were getting bigger, the fish were also growing in size.

In fact, everything was getting bigger and bigger. Every creature and every object ignored each other in their bid to find another creature or object of their kind. Then they fused and became bigger.

He didn’t know if what happened next was normal in the second heaven or not, but he had to accept it when he saw it. He saw a fish get too big for a lake. Then that fish left the lake, jumped over the ground, and went into a bigger lake with more fish.

When he saw this, he said, “So this is what Hammock meant when he said that spirit creatures seek each other out. It seems their sole purpose is to combine. This explains why everything is so big here.”

Because everything was fusing with each other, they were all big. It was normal for him to feel small in a large forest, but this time, he felt abnormally small.

He felt like a child would feel getting lost in a forest. Everything was bigger than him or nearly his size. Even the snails were up to par with him in size, and some of them were much larger than he was.

When a snail passed by, he had to make way for it lest the snail smash into him.
