THE GOD EATER
Chapter 1373 I Trust You.
Upon hearing Loki’s humble words, Wandering Thief pointed at him as he said, "That’s another hilarious joke. You’re on fire here. You’re too much, but please, keep the jokes coming."
They laughed some more, piling fake compliments on each other and laughing at jokes so dry a mortal would choke on them if they were food. It was truly a scene borne of brotherly love and mutual respect.
When Wandering Thief felt that the time was right, he said, "Just as a precaution, I think it is a good idea that you swear an oath not to harm anyone in the alliance who comes to join your Divine Court."
He patted his chest as he said, "I trust you. So I’m not asking for the oath because I don’t trust you. I’m asking to give the other members of our alliance more confidence."
"I also think it is a good idea since you’ll be able to meet them face to face safely with an oath in place. So your oath can turn your earlier joke into a serious possibility."
’Clearly, this fellow doesn’t remember that I have the means to break oaths safely. It is either that or he is up to some trickery,’ Loki thought inwardly with a sneer.
Outwardly, he said, "I have no problem swearing an oath. But I feel that it is unfair that I have to swear an oath and they don’t."
"I’m not asking for much. I just want us to swear an oath as an alliance not to harm each other in any way until Black Chain is dead. Isn’t that a good idea for our alliance?" he asked, smiling innocently.
Wandering Thief, nodding, said, "That’s a good idea. I will bring it to the other members immediately. After reviewing the benefits, I’m sure they will agree to swear the oath."
Of course, he lied. There was no way they would swear that oath because, if they did, they couldn’t kill Loki and take his Divine Mountain for themselves until they killed Black Chain.
The alternative was to break the oath with the Freedom Metac, but doing so would expose to the other members that his promises were worthless.
He couldn’t have that when the foundation of his alliance with the other Dao Lords was the oath they swore to work together and not deliberately harm each other until Ragnarok was dead.
Loki already knew Wandering Thief was lying with a straight face, so he didn’t count on that promise. But, as if he believed it, he said, "That makes two things you’ve promised me now."
"You promised to expand my sect and make everyone in the alliance swear an oath. I will be waiting for the good news of their success. In the meantime, I’ll take your offer to set up my Domain on Thief’s Haven."
"Hmm? What did you say? Will you join us? That’s a good idea. I am so happy," Wandering Thief said, immensely excited.
"But didn’t you say earlier that you didn’t have enough lifespan? Where will you get the lifespan to use?"
"I’ll just ask my Gemini friends. It will come at a steep interest rate, but you don’t have to worry about that. I am willing to do anything to show how dedicated I am to the cause," Loki said, waxing eloquently and lying through his teeth like a shameless politician.
"That’s great. I’ll tell everyone now. I have to go," he said before he disappeared, breaking contact.
Seeing this, Loki chuckled. "Look at him run. Now let us see what they are up to."
Wandering Thief didn’t need to cut their communication short just to speak with other Dao Lords. As a Dao Lord, his mind should be powerful enough to contact and maintain communication with a hundred billion people, including other Dao Lords.
The immensely powerful mental faculties of Dao Lords were how they could track everything happening in a super world through the divine constellation and how they could monitor the tens of billions of people in their sect throughout the Sea of Worlds.
Despite this great power, Wandering Thief felt the need to leave to chat with other Dao Lords. So Loki knew he was running away and using a flimsy excuse that no Dao Lord would be fooled by.
However, he didn’t know whether to be insulted that Wandering Thief thought he would believe the excuse, or to be happy that Wandering Thief had run out of competent excuses and had become desperate enough to use something so poor.
’Anyway, that offer to allow me to establish a Domain on the Blessed Heaven World is definitely fishy. What reason would they have to strengthen an enemy they want to kill badly?’ he thought, shaking his head.
The whole thing was suspicious no matter how he looked at it. That’s why he instinctively rejected the offer as soon as he heard it.
He had fallen into many traps, so he knew one when he saw it. Even if he were blind, he still had his nose, and it was telling him that his offer stunk of a plot afoot.
But perhaps the biggest sign of a trap was that Black Chain hadn’t joined the Olympic Sect yet. Two timelines ago, Black Chain had joined less than half a day after he established the Divine Mountain. Yet a whole day had passed, and Black Chain was nowhere to be seen.
He left white Loki around the Golden Mountain to stop Black Chain and fight him on a battlefield where he could use his divinity, rather than letting them clash in the Divine Court, where they could only use their Domain Power.
But without Black Chain, his precautionary action seemed to have gone to waste. Of course, he wasn’t going to let white Loki leave just yet.
A slight hiccup wasn’t enough to force him to give up and leave his weakness unprotected. He wasn’t that stupid.
’Speaking of Black Chain, where is he?’ he thought, amused.
