THE GOD EATER
Chapter 1300: Leveling The Playing Field.
While he thought about the situation and what he could do to solve some of his problems, he came to the newest Divine Mountain in the Sea of Worlds.
When he arrived, he saw a sea of Dao Lords standing before him. They weren’t exactly standing in front of him. They were standing around the Divine Mountain, forming a thick wall around it.
’There are at least a thousand Dao Lords here,’ he estimated mentally as he considered jumping above them.
Unfortunately, after counting, he concluded he couldn’t jump over them. According to his calculations, if he jumped, he would land on someone’s head, which would be considered an attack on that person.
Once an attack was registered, their defense system would take effect and send him flying the way he came. The outcome could get worse if the people standing in his way also jumped to block his attempt to go over them. So jumping would only fail and embarrass him.
’These little shits,’ he thought, his eyes glinting sharply with malice.
The sight of so many people blocking his way seemed to ignite the simmering anger within him. But then he remembered that he couldn’t do anything to these people. His anger wilted, turning into irritation and frustration.
"Fine. You got me," he said, snorting before turning to leave.
But White Chain saw him and called out to him and said, "Ragnarok. How do you like my plan?"
White Chain looked exactly like Black Chain. He was a white spider monkey hybrid with colorful eyes. Even the color and sound of their voice were identical, making Loki question whether he had actually killed Black Chain.
With a deadpan expression, Loki replied, saying, "Your plan is not bad. But it is not great either because you rely on the protection of your race for most of it."
"Oh, come on. Please, don’t say that what I did was unfair," White Chain said, rolling his eyes.
"The world is unfair, and what we’re born with is a part of it. Or are you saying I shouldn’t use one of the advantages readily available to me to defeat an enemy I have no business fighting?"
"That’s just stupid. Don’t you think?" he asked while laughing smugly.
"I didn’t say it was unfair. I said it wasn’t great. No matter where you get your advantages and regardless of my opinion of you, a plan where you cripple your strength to weaken your enemy can’t be called a great plan," Loki said, his lips curled in disdain.
"That’s good," White Chain said, unconcerned about Loki’s disdain.
"Honestly, I think it is good that you’re not harping on and on about how unfair what we did was. Because you also have unfair advantages."
"You managed to establish a Divine Mountain before we arrived, and Heavenly Eye managed to hide a lot of goodies before we had a chance to challenge her."
"Both you and the other old Dao Lords have had many years to build up an unfair advantage. I am only using my racial advantages to level the playing field."
"If I were born in the same time and age as all of you, I wouldn’t need my racial advantages to level the playing field. I wouldn’t need it because I will do better than all of you without it," he said smugly.
By now, Loki’s curled lips had turned into a mocking smile as he said, "You’re right. We all have unfair advantages."
"Take your father, for instance. His unfair advantage was that he worked thousands of years to become a six-star celestial. As for you, you became a six-star celestial as soon as you were born. Then you took over everything your father built as soon as he died."
"But on the same day, you threw away everything your father ever worked for. Black Chain had the largest Domain in the Sea of Worlds before I came along, and he still had the largest sect. In one day, all of that has disappeared."
"Yes, you have a Divine Mountain now. But you also have no Domain and no sect. And now you’re defending the Divine Mountain with a bunch of people I can’t touch."
"If you call this leveling the playing field, I can’t imagine what it would look like if you didn’t have your background to cheat or bully us with. But I’m sure that if Black Chain had all of the advantages you have, he would have done much better," he said, chuckling.
As someone who has enjoyed many unfair advantages, he could be considered an expert in this area. But one thing he has never done is believe that he could achieve the same success he has had with his cheats without them.
In fact, he was sure that without Fenrir and the Rewind Metac, he would have died in the initiation program or be enslaved for good by the Rein Family.
At best, he could claim that no one could have achieved as much as he did with the same cheats because of his origin talent. Thanks to his origin talent, he could use Fenrir and the Rewind Metac without any dangerous backlash, which is the only thing he could be proud of.
As for thinking he could do better than Black Chain, Tepid Scholar, and Martial Will without his cheats in the age of dragon domination, when multiple races were wiped out en masse, and dragons eat humans for fun, he didn’t dare.
Those three were literally one in ten billion. Yes, he could kill them down now without much effort. But he couldn’t undermine their effort or let some little shit head do so.
But White Chain didn’t take his words to heart. He shrugged and said, "Well, Black Chain is dead now. So we will never know if he could have done better."
"Anyway, let’s move on from this dreadful conversation into something more pleasant," he said, attempting to bring the conversation back to what he intended right from the start.
