THE GOD EATER
Chapter 1158: The Only Reliable Thing.
Even though he had the opportunity to impose an oath on them, he didn’t bother with it. This was because he had lost all faith in the sanctity of oaths.
Just last timeline, he was backstabbed and put in a deadly position after the Dao Lords promised not to attack him or sabotage his efforts to expand his Domain in the Sea of Worlds.
The loophole they used was that they didn’t attack him personally, and they didn’t sabotage any attempt to expand his Domain since the Domain they were responsible for removing was already established. In fact, what they did couldn’t count as sabotaging since he was always going to lose the Domain in the Blessed Heaven World anyway.
The Domain was supposed to be lost when the Blessed Heaven World ascended. He knew about this and was satisfied with it. In fact, he had made a deal with them just to earn that satisfaction from him. So what they had done was to help him hasten the loss of the Domain.
Then there was the matter of Heavenly Eye’s oath to protect Harem King, but what she did was to use her promise to lure some of Harem King’s remnants into a false sense of safety before killing them.
In the end, she did fulfill her promise to keep Harem King safe and even helped her become a Dao Lord once more. But a lot of damage had been done by her along the way.
’They say experience is the best teacher,’ he thought to himself.
’ I have thus learned from my experience and the Harem King’s experience that oaths are not reliable. Only one’s personal strength is reliable.’
Actually, after experiencing so much disappointment from oaths, he would rather discard them and their false sense of safety in exchange for giving his enemies predictable ways for them to attack him.
He could only hope that by not forcing them to think out of the box, they would do predictable things that he would have ways to neutralize without much effort. So he went away with oaths in favor of divine crystals and celestial gold.
After he earned his 85,500 years of divine crystals and 10,100 units of celestial gold, he didn’t return his avatar to his true body just yet. Instead, he roamed around the Blessed Heaven World, working.
The Dao Lords had just suffered a loss at his hands, so no one dared to underestimate him. They became so cautious that they all kept the eyes of their projected Supreme Metac on him at all times. Half of the Blessed Heaven World could be getting destroyed, but they would consider it a distraction and remain focused on what he was doing.
When Sword Maestro saw what he was doing, he sighed in relief and said, "It seems he is only trying to recruit mortals for his sect. I thought he would try to uproot a Domain or something."
"If he hadn’t just beaten me up, I would have mocked how low he has fallen as a Dao Lord for going around converting mortals himself," Martial Will said with a grumble of dissatisfaction.
"No need to hold back," Heavenly Eye laughed and said. "It really is a funny sight."
Tepid Scholar also chuckled and added, "It is not his fault, though. His sect is so young. He doesn’t have anyone to use."
Upon hearing this, Martial Will nodded and said with pride, "He may be strong, but he will never be able to compete with us in terms of foundation."
"His sect will never be able to catch up with ours. Just look at that Sword Way Sect. After a thousand years, it is the smallest," Martial Will finished smugly.
Sword Maestro’s sect was just insulted, but he didn’t speak up to defend because what Martial Will said was true. Throughout the Sea of Worlds, he had the smallest sect.
His sect was doing fine in the Blessed Heaven World. The problem was that this was the only place he was doing well. He couldn’t boast of success anywhere else in the Sea of Worlds.
So instead of defending himself, he said, "This gives me an idea. Since we can’t target him directly and can’t find his true body, we should attack his sect instead. Once we cut off his source of lifespan, he will be weakened and won’t be able to throw his weight around even if he is strong."
"Look at who is using lessons learned from his personal experience to beat someone else," Heavenly Eye said with a laugh. "It seems you have become even more mature than I expected."
"Well, I have to thank you for that, don’t I?" Sword Maestro said snidely.
"Anyway, it is a good plan. When his avatar returns, we should instruct our disciples to sabotage his sect. We shouldn’t kill the converts of his sect outright, or it would make him angry. But we can pressure them to change their pathway as soon as possible," Tepid Scholar suggested in anger.
"Wait! Hold on!" Martial Will suddenly exclaimed. "What is this about doubling the lifespan of mortals each time they advance from rank 1? Can he do that?"
He raised his voice as he said to Tepid Scholar, "I thought you said spiritual energy was needed for increasing lifespan. How come he can bypass that rule? Have you been lying all this time, you stinky scholar?"
"If I have even been lying about it, why have I never increased the lifespan of mortals myself? What benefit is there for me to lie about something like that?" Tepid Scholar fired back.
The two of them were about to argue some more when Heavenly Eye, frowning in confusion, said, "It seems he can. He has a Core Metac that he can use to transfer lifespan to mortals when they advance."
When Martial Will heard her explanation, he began to laugh. He roared with laughter, "Hahaha"
"So he is buying converts with lifespan? He really has fallen low as a Dao Lord."
