Chapter 398: Hope

Gloria was actually making her way across the beast army. She was basically sweeping everything in her way except any beasts that she couldn’t kill in one stroke.

Yes, she killed every beast in a single motion. Her motion was so fluid that she basically danced in the middle of the battlefield, making her way to the other side.

This way, she could create a small gap for the other students to take a breath. Of course, when a Rank 4 beast pounced on her, she merely looped around and started killing even more beasts.

"!!!" Katarina and Timothy could see the flash of light that moved from their right.

Timothy couldn’t see the weapon, so he wasn’t aware of her identity. However, Katarina knew it was definitely Gloria. Gloria had decided to become Auric’s bodyguard, so there was no way she wouldn’t be here.

Vera, Ellia, and Clarice were trying to help other students before they saw Gloria easily doing what they were doing, but on a much bigger scale.

"..." The three of them were speechless. On the one hand, they thought they could do such a thing themselves. On the other hand, they knew they weren’t strong enough to actually achieve such a thing.

More importantly, a Rank 4 beast actually followed her all the way to the left side of the battlefield and pounced on her.

Gloria wasn’t surprised. She simply turned around and channeled her power into the spearhead.

She pointed her spear forward, moving it precisely so that the tip of her spear would actually hit the tip of the beast’s claw. Then, that energy exploded.

"!!!" The Rank 4 beast widened its eyes. It had covered its paw with an enormous amount of energy.

Yet, the spear actually crushed the entire right side of its body.

It fell to the ground but still opened its mouth, channeling its power to its throat for one last attack.

Unfortunately for the beasts, Gloria spun her spear and stabbed the beast’s head, killing it.

Without missing a beat, she took a step back and gathered all her power before thrusting her spear forward.

The energy erupted one more time and blasted everything along the way. It continued for over thirty meters, killing over fifty beasts on its path.

The students and instructors were startled. They didn’t recognize this person. The beasts kept them busy enough that they couldn’t think about the person’s identity.

After all, she was helping them against the beasts.

Gloria noticed the change in the beast army, so she immediately glanced to the side, locating Auric.

Her role was Auric’s protector, so she needed to ask Auric for further instructions.

They panicked, thinking this woman wanted to attack Auric. Fortunately, as soon as she arrived, she leaned toward Auric to whisper something.

Auric also showed no hostility, making it look as if they knew each other.

"I saw the plane get shot down. The culprit was most likely the organization. I noticed a big fight in the northwest. I couldn’t get any closer, so I came here. Any instructions?"

Auric finally found out what happened to their reinforcements. It looked like they were really in trouble this time. Even if the plane wasn’t going to bring them back, they could still use its firepower to assist them in battle.

Since they couldn’t expect a plane, Auric decided to change his approach.

"Hahahaha. So, I hope I’m not too late!" Alexander’s laughter could be heard from hundreds of meters away. He covered his body in lightning before leaping into the air.

"Lightning Impact!" He fell to the ground, spreading all his lightning around and electrocuting the beasts.

"Hmph." Theressa Lee raised her hand. A big sun formed in the air as she sent that sun toward the beasts, burning them into nothingness.

Antonio had formed his wings and soared into the sky, spreading the phoenix feathers that would burn the beasts into ashes.

There were also many students coming. With them, there were close to 450 students here. 300 of them could still fight, while the rest were still being ’repaired.’ Of course, some of them had also fallen into despair.

More importantly, these students didn’t come alone. They also brought instructors with them, including Head Instructor Adam.

"To think the situation would be like this." Head Instructor Adam sighed. "I guess I was making the right choice by choosing to help the students."

Auric immediately sent Gloria to relay his message.

"The beasts are coated in poison! I repeat! The beasts are coated in poison. If you get injured, get some help and go to Auric Elfe and Selena Bellegarde. They will heal you. Please rejoin the battle right after.

"The instructors are going to fall back from the front lines soon. We need to eliminate these beasts as quickly as possible and retreat to the city!"

They were suspicious of Gloria, considering she covered her appearance. However, that suspicion could wait.

They really didn’t have time, so Head Instructor Adam summoned his avatar. A massive bird emerged on top of him. This bird turned into yellow light and flowed into his body, turning into his wings and horns.

Head Instructor Adam pointed his hands downward. Lightning fell from his fingertips as he flew around, spreading the lightning while avoiding any attacks from the beasts.

Of course, he first eliminated the remaining flying beasts so as to lessen the pressure from them.

Other instructors were also helping them, so the pressure was reduced significantly.

"Kayne, Henry! West! Help them!"

Two Rank 6 instructors looped around the beast army and headed further west. That was where Mr. Green and the other Rank 6 instructor were stopping the Rank 6 beasts. They really needed help for what was about to come.

Gloria didn’t rejoin the fight right away. Originally, she didn’t want to have anything to do with it.

She had been betrayed by her country, so she didn’t want to protect them anymore. She merely came here to fight for Auric. Hence, she would rather follow Auric’s next instruction.

Still, Auric didn’t object to this gesture. It was good to have Gloria around. He could handle the suspicion later and play dumb if anyone asked him about it.

What mattered most was that they managed to escape from this hell.

Auric said, "Get ready. We are going to retreat at any moment. For now, I’ll ask you to lessen the pressure on a few spots. Conserve your stamina because the real battle starts when we reach the wall. That bigger beast wave is not something easy to handle, after all."

Before leaving, Gloria added, "By the way, your mother asked me to pass this message to you. ’Should you wish to erase this nightmare, I’ll appear before you once again.’"

"What’s that supposed to mean?" Auric was confused.

"..." Lindwurm remained silent, but his face turned grim as though he understood the severity of that message.

Gloria shook her head. "I don’t know. I’ll head out for now."

Meanwhile, Head Instructor Adam noticed the reduction in the beast wave. It looked like they could take care of the process. "Students. This is Head Instructor Adam speaking! All instructors are to release all their power and kill the beasts. All students are to help each other and head back to the city. We’re retreating!"
