Chapter 397: Reinforcements

  • Next Chapter

"Jennifer..." Arnie looked at the junior he had recruited, who turned out to be a spy all this time. "You..."

"That’s my contingency plan. You’ve been checkmated, adjudicator. I know how good you are. That’s why the moment you take on that job, I want someone to give me the information from the inside."

"To think you would be working for them. For money?" Arnie chuckled.

Jennifer only said, "You are a very experienced senior. It’s a shame that I can’t learn from the best anymore."

She didn’t answer his question. She simply bid her farewell.

"What does it feel like to be betrayed by the person you trusted, adjudicator? I used to trust the government until they chose to turn a blind eye simply because someone was wealthier than I was. Now, you get to feel the betrayal." The Director was laughing.

Arnie could waste some time, but he really needed to finish everything up quickly.

So Arnie just laughed. "Betrayal, huh? How could you feel betrayed when you didn’t even trust that person in the first place?"

Everyone was confused at first, but they suddenly realized what was going on.

"!!!" Jennifer widened her eyes as her spear began heating up. "Hot?! No, it’s not blood...! It’s... magm—"

In that instant, Arnie turned around and grabbed Jennifer by the neck.

"Gah!" Jennifer coughed up some saliva while she was trying to escape from Arnie’s grasp. "How did you..."

Jennifer knew what was happening. Arnie had a full-body transformation. However, the problem was the fact that she had never seen Arnie using it before they came to stop these people.

That was why it wasn’t enough to stab his heart.

"You can wait in hell. I’ll send your traitorous family with you...after I get the information I want." Arnie smirked.

"NOOOOOOOO!!!!" Jennifer let out a scream, but it was too late. The magma was already melting her neck as it continued to flow inside her body, melting her organs.

She was letting out a cry of pain that soon disappeared along with the rest of her organs.

"!!!" The enemies widened their eyes. Arnie never trusted Jennifer, so how could he be betrayed?

From the beginning, Arnie had been suspicious. They were becoming adamant to get Auric as soon as he began his investigation.

At that time, he hadn’t set up the team to pursue this organization yet. He just wanted to interview the victims first to see whether he should set up a team to get this organization.

Yet, after that point, the organization became more adamant in capturing Auric.

In other words, someone had been fetching the information for the organization.

He found out the identity of that person after giving different people different pieces of information. It only confirmed his suspicion about Jennifer.

That was why he had been playing tricks with the enemy, making them think they were more than enough to handle this job.

"This is over. You might as well surrender right now to save yourself a lot of pain." Arnie smiled.

The Director fell silent for a moment. He had never thought that his contingency plan wouldn’t work against Arnie.

However, the Director simply said, "It doesn’t matter. Even if you recreate your achievement with the Iposon Gang, you won’t be able to catch me, adjudicator. After all, I’m not going to stop until all of you experience my pain."

"Yeah, about that..." Arnie sighed.

...

In the city, a man in his seventies took out his brown cigar while looking at the building in front of him.

The man had short black hair, a big scar over his left eye covered by sunglasses, and a muscular build that made him look much younger.

He was none other than Esfrata’s National Intelligence Agency’s Director.

"An old friend asked me for help. I guess even if I have to step down from my position, I will do that. Oh, good old retirement. Well, that is only if anyone knows I’m here though." The man grinned.

He kicked the door open and immediately spread his energy. "Get down on the floor. I’m going to beat the shit out of anyone who isn’t down!"

...

The Director definitely heard it. As it interrupted the Director from speaking, Arnie could hear it through the radio as well.

"Well, well, well. How the tables have turned... Please give my regards to my friend, after you are captured, of course." Arnie smiled.

They panicked. The Director was in danger.

Before they could make a move, Arnie immediately leaped toward them. "And now, it’s time for me to take care of all of you."

"Kill him!" Everyone tried to surround him.

Arnie simply stomped on the ground and caused the ground to redden as though it had heated up. Then, the ground turned into lava that burst upward, engulfing a few people at once.

One person had reached Arnie from the side and cut his arm. Surprisingly, the blade simply went through his arm and cut nothing.

Arnie grabbed his face and started melting him down.

The two Rank 6 humans immediately released their full power. The first one placed his hand on the ground and created so many spikes to destroy all the cores in his body.

The second person formed a beam and shot Arnie.

Unfortunately, that beam simply passed through his body and caused a massive explosion behind him. It didn’t affect Arnie at all.

Even when the spikes were coming, all those spikes melted before they could even touch him.

"!!!" They never thought they would see someone like this. It looked like the report of him massacring the entire gang was true.

Arnie smiled because he could finally kill some high-level criminals.

"Die!" Two men leaped toward him, ready to slash him to pieces.

However, before they could even reach him, a burst of wind suddenly enveloped them and shredded them to pieces.

"Aaaahhhh!"

"!!!" They were startled. Arnie definitely didn’t have a wind element.

"That figure... No way..."

"Is that... Merlin?"

While they were in shock, Arnie glanced up and saw a woman standing in the air.

"I wondered who was fighting here. It turned out to be the rumored sharpest blade of the law enforcement in Esfrata. I’ve heard of you, Arnie Rostold."

"I never thought even the famous Merlin would actually know someone like me. However, while I appreciate your thoughts, I don’t need your help here. You should help the students."

"Officially, I’m not here, let alone intervening in matters regarding the students. Just like you. So, I’ve been following the plane, and it looks like these guys are the ones responsible!"

Before they could continue their conversation, the enemies had regained their composure and struck them.

The massive spikes all over the area shot toward Lady Merlin, but Lady Merlin raised both arms and started spinning the wind around and crushing all the incoming objects.

Arnie’s body turned redder as the heat intensified. "I guess we can have a brief chat after this is over."

"I agree." Lady Merlin smiled.

...

Auric was observing everything, trying to maintain a balance on the battlefield. However, he knew that more and more students were coming to him. In the end, there were simply too many beasts.

They could continue to fight, but their stamina wouldn’t be able to keep up, especially Rank 1 and Rank 2 students.

They might be able to pull their weight for some time, but in just a few minutes, the pressure from the beasts would have drained their stamina.

Continuing the battle here wouldn’t be wise. At the same time, he didn’t know what to do in this scenario.

After all, they couldn’t exactly escape like this since people needed to hold the rear. Those people would definitely die, and the students here might not even be able to reach the wall.

"Tsk. Is there no other way?" Auric muttered.

"There is a way... One of them is coming." Lindwurm looked to the right.

Auric was startled. He thought it would be his mother.

A light suddenly shone brightly from the side.

"!!!" Auric couldn’t determine who it was. All he knew was that there were two people who possessed a light element. At least, the one that Lindwurm knew personally.

That light traveled over two hundred meters in just two seconds.

As soon as that light arrived, her form was revealed. It was a woman wearing a white jacket. She covered her face with a mask, but her weapon and element gave away her identity to those who knew her.

That woman cut down one beast at the edge of the army. That slash continued through the ground and cut a few more beasts.

Some beasts reacted to her appearance, but she simply spun her body and slashed them. As soon as she stopped her spin, she took a firm step on the ground and thrust the spear multiple times in a second, piercing through three beasts at once.

Then, she made a small jump just to get her feet off the ground. Her light energy erupted.

The moment she landed, her body tilted down, getting into a stance that allowed her to boost her speed at any moment.

She stopped just for a brief second as though she was calculating the path forward.

Then it happened. She turned into light as this light created lines and curves within the enemy ranks.

All the beasts around that curve were either cut down or pierced through.

Her movement was so fast and efficient that it made people wonder if she was really just a Rank 4 human.

If she was allowed to join the Rank 4 competition before, Katarina might not be the champion.

Auric recognized her, not knowing whether this was the right course of action or not. However, given that his mother was here and recruited her personally, he knew his mother was trying to do something like this.

Auric took a deep breath. There was no point in thinking about something that had happened. All he needed to do was take advantage of Gloria’s presence.
