Lin Jiji had barely finished speaking when several figures stepped out from the crowd.

There were seven of them in total—a mix of old and young, men and women. With the exception of a man in his seventies wearing only a hat, the others were all disguised with hats, masks, and sunglasses.

Once they were all standing off to the side, Lin Jiji announced, “Leaders, these are the concerned citizens providing evidence of Chenyang extorting people and taking advantage of them.

To prevent Chenyang from retaliating against them later, I had them disguise themselves!”

Dean Zhen stepped forward and examined the photos and videos in each of their phone albums. He then nodded toward Zhang Hongtu. “Vice Mayor Zhang, the content on these citizens’ phones matches what’s on the screen.”

Zhang Hongtu frowned and looked at Chenyang. “Doctor Chen, do you have anything to say?” ⅇ

Chenyang smiled. “Sir, are you familiar with Photoshop?”

“It’s a piece of software for editing and creating images. What about it?”

“All of these photos were made with Photoshop. They’re very realistic, but no matter how real they look, they’re still fakes.”

“Can you stop spouting nonsense?” Lin Jiji scoffed. “These citizens have no quarrel with you; in fact, they’ve never even met you. They have no reason to fabricate photos just to slander you.”

“On their own, you’re right, they’d have no reason to slander me. But what if you bribed all of them?”

Lin Jiji had clearly anticipated this retort and sneered, “How twisted is your mind that you’d immediately jump to bribery? They’re all locals from Yang City. I’m an outsider. What could I possibly use to bribe them?”

Chenyang scoffed. “You’re one to talk about a twisted mind. Where’s your conscience? Did a dog run off with it? And what does being a local have to do with anything? For someone like you, who loves to slander people and start vicious rumors, you’ve always believed money is almighty, haven’t you?”

“Stop making things up, will you? When have I ever slandered people or spread baseless rumors? Everything I’ve said from the very beginning has been the truth!”

Lin Jiji paused, then continued, “And another thing. Money can indeed buy people. But even if I could bribe these citizens, I couldn’t possibly bribe the people who were injured in the car crash, could I? After all, they were rescued by staff from your own hospital. Out of gratitude, they would never help an outsider like me go against one of their own doctors, right?”

Chenyang raised an eyebrow. Just as he was about to speak, several patients walked up from the side, some with their arms in slings, others leaning on crutches.

Lin Jiji pointed to them and said, “These are all patients who were rescued from the car crash, and they are all currently admitted for treatment here at your City Hospital.

You might not believe me, but you can’t possibly disbelieve them, can you?”

Dean Zhen nodded. “These patients are indeed hospitalized at the City Hospital.”

Zhang Hongtu asked, “Did all of you personally witness or experience Doctor Chen extorting you or taking advantage of you?”

A middle-aged man at the front raised his arm, revealing the tan line on his wrist from years of wearing a watch. “I’m one of the people he extorted,” he said. “When he demanded something, I figured I’d just give him some cash and be done with it. After all, my leg was hurting like hell, and it’s not easy for a doctor to risk their life to come save someone.

But who would’ve thought? The moment he saw it, that kid zeroed in on my watch. That was a Rolex worth over a hundred thousand! Of course, it’s not about the money. The main thing is I’d worn it for so many years and had grown attached to it.

I tried to reason with him, but he said that if I didn’t give him the watch, he’d make sure no one in the entire hospital treated me. In the end, the pain was unbearable, and I had no other choice. I figured the watch, as important as it was, wasn’t more important than my leg, so I gave it to him.”

A woman in her forties, standing in the middle of the group, added her story. “That kid had his eye on my necklace. I figured I’d just give it to him and that would be the end of it. But who would’ve known? As he was taking it off, he shoved his hand down my collar and started grabbing my chest.

I got furious and cursed him out, but he had the gall to tell me that since my arm was injured, my internal organs might have been damaged too, and he needed to feel around to check for injuries.”

“Me too. My thigh was injured. Under the pretext of examining the wound, he pulled down my underwear and his fingers kept rubbing me down there. He kept at it until I was wet.”

“He said he needed to borrow my phone to make a call, but after he took it, he immediately transferred the eighty thousand yuan from my account into a red packet and sent it to his own phone…”
