Chapter 381: Chapter 381

Chenyang never considered himself a good person, but he could face anyone and anything with a clear conscience.

When the car crash happened, he was one of the first doctors on the scene to join the rescue effort.

At the time, when faced with the most critically injured patients whose lives hung in the balance, the Western-style doctors were helpless without the proper equipment. It was he who either stepped in directly or taught his medical techniques to Liu Yun and the others on the spot so they could treat the wounded.

It’s safe to say that more than half of the most grievously injured people survived only because of him.

Furthermore, among the remaining patients, Chenyang had treated the largest number of people—more than an entire small rescue team combined!

Throughout that period, Angie was by his side the entire time, and Liu Yun often sought his help or acted as his assistant. Those two witnessed nearly everything he did at the rescue site.

He never accepted any favors from anyone, much less took advantage of a single person.

He didn’t even accept the bread and water that people offered when they saw how exhausted he was.

As far as Chenyang was concerned, everything he did was simply part of his duty as a doctor.

And as a decent human being, it was only natural to step in and help when he saw people in trouble.

But to the public and the hospital, Chenyang stepping up in a moment of crisis was undeniably heroic. With his miraculous, life-saving skills, he had more than earned the title of an "angel in white."

Such a good deed should have been met with admiration and praise.

But what happened in the end?

There was no praise, no gratitude.

Instead, because some so-called celebrity wasn’t given priority treatment, he was branded as unethical and unfit to be a doctor.

Then, after that celebrity began maliciously spreading rumors and slandering him, countless people, without bothering to investigate the truth, took to their keyboards. They hurled insults and condemnations at Chenyang, both online and in the real world, to the point that it had now escalated into personal attacks.

Chenyang had always believed that people were inherently good.

That even in a corrupt world, good people still outnumbered the bad.

But after this incident, he suddenly realized he had been too naive. He had thought too highly of the people around him.

People like Lin Jiji, and the instigators egging on the crowd, were rotten to the core.

Kindness can’t change wicked people.

To deal with people like that, you had to be meaner than them, and fight dirtier!

Yan Rongrong, standing in the crowd, and An Xiaoqing, sitting in her car, both understood what Chenyang was thinking.

The incited mob, however, had no idea what was going through his mind.

A person’s prejudice is like a great mountain; no amount of effort can move it an inch.

And their prejudice against Chenyang, fueled by Lin Jiji’s manipulations, was already bone-deep. To them, his words were nothing more than desperate, fallacious arguments.

As soon as he finished speaking, the instigators in the crowd immediately led the charge, shouting retorts and curses.

"Stop your damn act, playing the victim and the good guy."

"If you were really such a good person and a good doctor, how could you have caused such a huge public outcry?"

"That’s right! Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. You must have done something despicable to cause this public outrage. If you were innocent, why would everyone be targeting you instead of someone else?"

"Don’t give us that crap about evidence. The news that you don’t have a medical license came from someone inside your own hospital, and the proof has already been posted online.

And as for the photos and videos of you accepting bribes and taking advantage of people, there are tons of them all over the internet!"

"Didn’t you just say you’d give us a satisfactory explanation? So how can you now shamelessly claim you’ve done nothing wrong? If you were really innocent, you wouldn’t need to explain anything to us at all!"

"You’re just a damn hypocrite!"

"You’re an animal! Scum! You don’t deserve to be a doctor, you don’t even deserve to be called human!"

With a few people leading the way, others in the crowd joined in. One person shouted, then another, the insults growing uglier and uglier. Someone even started deliberately shoving the people in front of them, creating the impression that the crowd was about to physically attack Chenyang at any moment.

Throughout this, Yan Rongrong had been scanning the crowd, identifying the ringleaders who were leading the chants and intentionally steering the mob. Eventually, she quietly shifted her position, moving to stand next to the person who was trying to incite a physical assault on Chenyang.

The crowd didn’t notice her actions, but Chenyang saw everything.

Seeing Yan Rongrong surreptitiously give him a look, a flicker of understanding crossed Chenyang’s eyes.

The task he had given Yan Rongrong was simple: identify the ringleaders and record evidence of them deliberately inciting the crowd.

These people were the true instigators of this whole mess.

Exposing them would make it much easier to resolve the situation.

The meaning in the look Yan Rongrong gave him was simple. It told Chenyang that she had already identified most of the ringleaders, but to be safe, he needed to get more aggressive—to be more provocative—to force anyone else hiding in the crowd out into the open.
