Chapter 315: Chapter 315

Ji Xiaoyu was a high-ranking executive at the Celestial Language Group.

In fact, he was one of the more important core members.

But he hadn’t made many public appearances in several years, so these grunts who had joined the group later didn’t recognize him.

However, Brother Hu, a man with some sway in the group’s lower echelons, was extremely familiar with the name. He had even long considered Ji Xiaoyu his idol.

Most of the big shots in the group’s core leadership were old-timers who had followed the two heads of the family back when they were conquering their territory.

Their success was partly due to their numbers back then, and partly because they had capitalized on the opportunities of that era.

To put it bluntly, they could accomplish great things when they worked together.

But if you took them individually, some of them might not have been as capable as the second wave of members.

But Ji Xiaoyu was different. He was the only person in the last decade to enter the core leadership through his own abilities, and the only one to have earned the approval of the two family heads by performing a great service for the group on his own.

Back then, the second-in-command, Ning Yuhua, was being hunted by her enemies. Over a dozen tough enforcers stormed her home to corner her. Ji Xiaoyu, who just happened to be there to pick something up, faced them all with just a single knife. Not only did he take down every last one of them, but he also charged into the enemy’s den alone, chopped off their leader’s hands, and used the opportunity to swallow up their territory, securing assets of immense value for the Celestial Language Group.

Legend has it that in the battle at the enemy’s den, he took down over thirty of their men.

The white shirt he was wearing when he went in was completely dyed red with blood by the time he came out.

After that battle, Ji Xiaoyu’s fame skyrocketed. He entered the upper echelons of the Celestial Language Group and was given the nickname "War God Fish" by people in the underworld.

However, the nickname only circulated for less than a month before the Celestial Language Group did everything they could to erase it. The reason was that a major crackdown was underway at the time, and they were worried it would bring unnecessary trouble for Ji Xiaoyu.

Very few people knew this nickname—mostly just the old-timers from the underworld who were still around, and the handful of people who were close to Ji Xiaoyu.

If Chenyang was really that close to him, he would definitely know this little-known nickname.

If he did, Brother Hu wouldn’t even need to go to Ji Xiaoyu for verification; he would immediately apologize to Chenyang and leave.

Because Ji Xiaoyu was his idol and a legend in the underworld, as long as Chenyang knew the nickname, Brother Hu would show him respect, even if he wasn’t particularly close to Ji Xiaoyu.

But if he couldn’t even name the nickname, Brother Hu would immediately conclude that Chenyang was just using Ji Xiaoyu’s name to bluff his way out.

Chenyang really did know Ji Xiaoyu.

And they were indeed on good terms.

However, he truly didn’t know Ji Xiaoyu’s nickname.

So, after hearing Brother Hu’s question, Chenyang shook his head. "I don’t know his nickname. I only know his name is Ji Xiaoyu. When we see each other, I just call him Brother Yu."

Hearing this, the solemn expression on Brother Hu’s face instantly vanished.

"Heh. Next time you want to use a big shot’s name as a shield, remember to get your facts straight about them first.

"People usually call Ji Xiaoyu ’Master Ji,’ ’Thirteenth Master,’ or ’Thirteenth Brother.’ Nobody calls him ’Brother Yu’—that’s the one name he hates. One time, a manager in the group called him Brother Yu and got slapped twice by his men, right then and there."

Chenyang froze for a second. "Something like that happened? He never mentioned it to me."

"You don’t fucking know him, so why the hell would he mention it to you!"

Brother Hu had lost all patience to continue talking to Chenyang. He ordered his men, "Get him! First, smash that pretentious mouth of his, then break both his arms and legs."

"Yes, sir!"

With Brother Hu no longer holding them back, his men didn’t hesitate for a second, rushing straight for Chenyang.

Chenyang hadn’t brought up Ji Xiaoyu’s name to bluff. His thinking was that since Brother Hu and his men were from the Celestial Language Group, they must be Ji Xiaoyu’s subordinates. Out of respect for their friendship, he felt he should give them some face to avoid any awkwardness the next time they met.

But now, it was clear that Brother Hu and his men didn’t believe he knew Ji Xiaoyu.

And since they were about to attack without giving him a chance to explain, he couldn’t be bothered to hold back anymore.

The fingers holding his cigarette flicked back sharply, sending the glowing cigarette butt flying directly into the face of the grunt charging at the front.

The searing heat of the cigarette butt made the grunt’s face contort in pain. He instinctively stopped and began frantically swatting at the sparks on his clothes.

Seizing the opening, Chenyang’s raised right leg whipped out to the side, sweeping the second grunt off his feet while simultaneously kicking the third into the pool below.

The remaining two men, along with the one who had just put out the sparks, instantly grew even more furious. Gone was their earlier careless and dismissive attitude; they now charged forward with everything they had.

But grunts were grunts, after all.

A burly frame didn’t mean you could fight.

They might be fine against an ordinary person, but against a trained fighter like Chenyang, they were completely out of their league.
