Chapter 162: Silver Flames, Scarlet Vows

Kane’s nostrils flared as Cyrus’s familiar scent cut through the chemical haze clouding his thoughts.

His golden eyes flickered between rage and relief, nine silver tails lashing with agitation.

Silver foxfire erupted around his claws as conflicting emotions tore through him.

Kane’s consciousness remained trapped beneath layers of artificial enhancement, watching helplessly as his transformed body prepared to strike the one person he needed most.

Cyrus saw the war raging behind those molten eyes.

Without hesitation, he spread his arms wide, crimson energy unfurling in a protective dome around them both.

The dragon aura shimmered like heated air, containing Kane’s chaotic power while shielding them from the collapsing facility.

"I’m here now," Cyrus murmured, stepping closer despite the foxfire licking at his skin.

"I’m not leaving you."

Kane’s body trembled. Their soul-bond sang with recognition and desperate need.

Cyrus reached out slowly, his hand hovering inches from Kane’s silver-furred face. When Kane didn’t strike, he gently placed his palm against the fox’s temple.

"Let me in," he whispered, closing his eyes as crimson energy merged with silver flame.

"Let me find you."

Dragon magic pushed past synthetic barriers, following the golden thread of their bond into Kane’s fractured mind.

Cyrus found Kane wandering through the skeletal remains of the autumn grove, his consciousness trapped in a realm that existed only in memory and synthetic-induced hallucination.

The ancient maples stood withered and gray, their branches reaching like desperate fingers toward a sky that bled purple poison.

Leaves fell in endless spirals, each one crumbling to ash before hitting the corrupted ground.

Kane moved through the ruins in his partially human form with silver fox ears and nine tails trailing behind him.

"Kane!"

Cyrus’s voice cut through the corrupted grove.

Kane’s head snapped up, golden eyes wide with disbelief as he spotted the familiar figure striding through the ash-covered clearing.

For a heartbeat, Kane wondered if this was another hallucination. But the bond between them pulsed with unmistakable warmth, and Kane knew.

Cyrus had come for him.

"Cyrus!" Kane’s voice cracked as he abandoned all pretense of control and ran.

Silver foxfire blazed behind him as he crashed into Cyrus’s arms, nine tails wrapping around them both like a desperate embrace.

Cyrus held him tight, dragon magic weaving through Kane’s fractured spirit, anchoring him to something real and solid.

"I’m here," Cyrus murmured against Kane’s silver-furred ear. "You’re safe now."

Kane buried his face against Cyrus’s chest, his body shaking with exhaustion and relief.

But as the initial euphoria faded, anger surged through him—hot and bitter and completely justified.

"It hurts," Kane gasped, claws digging into Cyrus’s jacket. "Everything hurts so much, and they—" His voice broke on a sob.

"Where were you? I waited and waited, and you took so long—"

Before Cyrus could respond, Kane’s fist slammed into his chest with enough force to crack ribs.

"You should have been there!" Kane’s voice rose to a shout, hitting Cyrus again and again.

"You should have protected me!"

Cyrus didn’t flinch or try to stop the blows. He simply held Kane closer, letting him vent his fury.

If only I’d been faster, Cyrus thought, self-hatred burning in his chest. I would never have let them touch you.

Through their soul-bond, Cyrus felt the echo of every electric shock that had torn through Kane’s body, every moment of helpless agony as synthetic compounds rewrote his spirit core.

The dragon’s own scream had been silent, trapped in his unconscious form as Kane’s pain became his own.

"I felt it all," Cyrus whispered against Kane’s silver-furred temple, his voice breaking with guilt and rage.

"Every second they hurt you, I felt it burning through our bond."

Kane’s golden eyes flickered with fresh tears, nine tails trembling as the admission hit him.

Cyrus had suffered alongside him, trapped in helpless agony while Kane endured Elias’s torture.

"I’m sorry," Cyrus breathed, pressing his forehead against Kane’s. "I’m so sorry I wasn’t there when you needed me most."

Cyrus pressed a reverent kiss to Kane’s forehead, soft even amidst the chaos.

Crimson energy flowed from the gentle contact, soothing the synthetic poison still burning through Kane’s veins.

"But I promise you this," Cyrus murmured, his voice hardening into something deadly and absolute.

"I will tear Elias apart piece by piece for what he’s done to you. I’ll make him pay for every moment of pain he’s caused you."

Kane buried his head deeper against Cyrus’s chest, breathing in the familiar scent of cedar and smoke that had become home.

The silver foxfire around his nine tails dimmed to a gentle glow as exhaustion pulled at his consciousness.

As much as part of him burned for revenge against Elias, another part of him just wanted to stay here in Cyrus’s arms forever.

His spirit felt stretched thin, like silk pulled beyond its breaking point.

"I know," Cyrus murmured, sensing Kane’s bone-deep weariness through their bond.

His hand stroked through Kane’s silver fur with infinite gentleness.

"I know you’re worn out. I know you want to rest."

Kane’s nine tails twitched at the understanding in Cyrus’s voice.

"But you need to take control of your body again," Cyrus continued, his tone firm but loving.

"The facility is collapsing around us, and we need to get out."

Cyrus pulled back just enough to meet Kane’s molten gold eyes, crimson flames dancing in his gaze.

"I’m proud of you," he said, voice thick with emotion.

"You’ve finally awakened your true form, just like the ancient legends. You’re not the frightened kit hiding in shadows anymore."

Kane’s ears perked forward, surprise flickering across his transformed features.

"A kyuubi in your full power. We stand as equals—dragon and fox, fire and silver flame."

Kane’s ears fluttered at Cyrus’s words, a spark of pride warming his chest despite his exhaustion. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

"Equals?" Kane whispered, golden eyes searching Cyrus’s face. "But what if... what if being equals changes everything between us?"

Cyrus’s mouth curved into that familiar, devastating smirk that made Kane’s heart skip.

"You’ll always be my little fox," he murmured, voice rich with affection and something darker.

"Power doesn’t change that."

Before Kane could protest, Cyrus swept him into his arms bridal-style, carrying him toward the grove’s edge where reality beckoned.

"Now, time to wake up."
