The Fox And The Last Dragon

Chapter 161: Blaze Of Becoming

Kane stood at the chamber’s center, transformed beyond recognition.

Nine silver tails blazed behind him like fire whips, each one crackling with ancient foxfire that cast dancing shadows across the rubble-strewn floor.

His golden eyes burned with molten fury, pupils slitted and predatory as his gaze swept the devastation around him.

Raw spirit energy radiated from his form in visible waves, making the air itself shimmer with heat.

Ginsei’s eyes widened in disbelief, ice-blue irises reflecting the silver flames.

"That can’t be Kane," he whispered, voice cracking with shock. "White fox spirits don’t survive long enough to reach nine tails."

Mochi struggled to his feet beside him, both cat tails twitching with nervous energy as he stared at the transformed figure.

"Holy shit," he breathed, blood still trickling from his nose.

"Kane’s a fucking kyuubi. An actual Nine-Tailed Fox."

Behind them, Cyrus stirred, crimson eyes fluttering open as consciousness returned.

The dragon’s gaze immediately locked onto Kane’s blazing form, and recognition sparked in his ancient features—not surprise, but remembrance.

Above them, watching through reinforced observation windows, Elias pressed his palms against the glass.

His amber eyes gleamed with scientific fascination and hungry ambition as he studied Kane’s transformation.

"Magnificent," he murmured, already imagining the possibilities. "If I can harness that power, replicate it, enhance it further..."

His mind raced with visions of an army of enhanced legendary spirits under his command.

In the cells surrounding the chamber, captive spirits cowered against the bars.

Some whimpered in recognition, while others trembled with desperate hope—unsure whether the blazing fox had come as their savior or another destroyer.

Kane’s head snapped toward movement. Silver flames sliced through reinforced walls, melting suppression fields in seconds and sending molten metal dripping to the floor.

Captive spirits tumbled from their destroyed cells, some crying out in relief while others fled in terror from the chaotic energy.

Pain. Fire. Run. Kill.

The fragmented thoughts crashed through Kane’s mind, each one triggering another wave of destructive power.

He spun toward a wolf guard attempting to flee, and three tails lashed out simultaneously, incinerating the creature before it could scream.

The foxfire continued its path, striking a support beam that groaned and began to crack under the intense heat.

"That’s not Kane!" Ginsei shouted over the roar of flames, mist swirling around him as he prepared defensive barriers.

"He’s drowning in the synthetic shit they pumped into him!"

Mochi scrambled backward as another beam buckled, dust and debris raining down.

"We have to stop him!"

"Are you insane?" Ginsei hissed, serpentine eyes tracking Kane’s erratic movements.

"Look at him! That’s centuries of suppressed legendary power unleashed all at once. If we attack directly, he’ll vaporize us!"

Kane’s golden eyes fixed on them. Recognition flickered somewhere deep in his gaze, but it was buried beneath layers of synthetic enhancement and primal instinct.

Friend? Enemy? Threat?

The confusion only fed his rage, and silver flames began gathering around his claws as he stepped closer to them.

Just then, Cyrus pushed himself upright, crimson energy steadying his movements as he rose to his full height.

His dragon aura flared briefly in acknowledgment of the blazing fox before him.

"Thank you," he said quietly to Ginsei and Mochi, never taking his eyes off Kane’s transformed figure. "You brought me to him. That’s all that matters."

Ginsei’s serpentine pupils dilated as he processed Cyrus’s calm tone.

"You’re not seriously planning to—"

"I am." Cyrus’s voice carried absolute certainty.

"Now, both of you have a choice. Escape this facility while you can, or hunt down the wolf who did this."

His gaze shifted upward, piercing through steel and concrete to lock onto Elias’s position.

The wolf spirit jerked back from the glass, amber eyes widening as he felt the full weight of an ancient dragon’s fury.

Mochi wiped blood from his nose, both tails bristling with determination.

"Hunt the bastard," he declared without hesitation. "After what I saw in those cells? That psychotic fleabag needs to burn."

Ginsei hesitated only a moment before nodding grimly.

"The serpent agrees with the cat. Elias has too much blood on his claws to walk away from this."

Kane’s head snapped toward their voices, silver flames intensifying as confusion and synthetic rage warred in his golden eyes.

Three tails lashed toward a crumbling support pillar, sending sparks cascading down.

Cyrus stepped forward, completely unafraid of the destructive energy radiating from his transformed lover.

"Go," he commanded Ginsei and Mochi. "I’ll handle Kane."

Above them, Elias had already vanished from the observation window, but the faint sound of footsteps echoed through the facility.

The wolf was mobilizing his remaining forces.

Ginsei and Mochi exchanged a look before melting into the shadows, serpentine mist and cat stealth carrying them toward the stairwells.

Cyrus stood alone with the blazing fox, ancient recognition burning in his crimson eyes.

He approached his fox slowly, his legs unsteady from the soul-bond trauma, but his resolve unwavering.

The silver foxfire licked at his skin harmlessly. His dragon scales hidden beneath human flesh are immune to flame of any kind. Heat that would incinerate mortals felt like a warm breeze against his face.

"Kane," he called, his voice cutting through the roar of destructive energy.

The fox’s ears twitched, golden eyes flickering with something that might have been recognition.

But the sound of his name only triggered another surge of chaotic power, nine tails whipping frantically as silver flames erupted in all directions.

Molten metal dripped from the ceiling where the fire had carved through steel beams.

Cyrus pressed forward, crimson energy steadying his movements as he navigated the shifting rubble. Each step brought him closer to the maelstrom of silver light and ancient fury.

"Kane," he repeated, softer now, letting his dragon aura unfurl in gentle waves rather than commanding presence.

The fox spun toward him, claws extended and foxfire crackling between his fingers. Confusion warred with synthetic rage in those molten gold eyes.

Cyrus stopped just beyond striking distance, meeting that burning gaze with infinite patience.

"Let’s go home," he said simply, extending one hand toward the transformed spirit.
