Before long, only Xu Heming and the couple, Li Tianyou and Lady Yao, remained in the courtyard.
The midwife and Nanny Luo, who had come along with her, were inside the delivery room, helping Li Zhiwei clean up.
“Prince An, do whatever you want with us,” Li Tianyou said, holding his chin high.
“Rest assured, Father-in-law. How could your son-in-law possibly kill you?” Xu Heming said, the corner of his lips curling into an unreadable smile as he looked at the two of them. “I merely wish to invite you both to Prince An’s Residence as guests.”
Though Xu Heming spoke with a smile, his words sent a chill down Li Tianyou and Lady Yao’s backs. How could they not understand? Prince An intended to use them to threaten Weiwei.
“Prince An, the Li family isn’t far from Prince An’s Residence…” Li Tianyou said awkwardly.
“Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, are you really comfortable leaving the children at home? Aren’t you afraid the servants won’t take proper care of them?”
Xu Heming continued speaking to them.
The more they listened, the worse Li Tianyou and Lady Yao’s expressions became.
Xu Heming intended to take the children back to Prince An’s Residence.
They weren’t particularly surprised by that.
It was just that neither of them truly wanted to go to Prince An’s Residence.
“Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, please.” Xu Heming paid no attention to their reluctance and instead gestured for them to go ahead.
“Prince An, we’re willing to leave with you. But could you let us wait until Weiwei wakes up before we go?” Lady Yao gritted her teeth and spoke anxiously, unable to set aside her concern for her still-unconscious daughter.
“Nanny Luo will take good care of her, and Imperial Physician Zhou will remain here as well.” Although Xu Heming himself did not want to do this, he knew that if he did not act ruthlessly, that damn woman would flee as far away as possible.
In order to make Li Zhiwei return, he could only harden his heart.
Xu Heming left Niutian Village with the three children and the Li couple.
When Li Zhiwei woke up and saw Nanny Luo standing before her, she thought she was dreaming.
Li Zhiwei quickly closed her eyes, then opened them again. Nanny Luo was still standing by the bed, perfectly real.
“Has the Princess Consort awakened?” Whenever Nanny Luo thought of the three young masters the Princess Consort had given birth to, the smile on her face never faded.
Thinking of how lively the residence would become from now on, Nanny Luo grew happier and happier.
“Nanny Luo, why are you here?” Li Zhiwei realized that she was not dreaming. But she was still in Niutian Village.
Had she been exposed?
“Nanny Luo, can I see the children?” Li Zhiwei thought that now the children had been born, Xu Heming could no longer do anything to her.
At the moment, however, she wanted even more to see her children.
“Princess Consort, the children are fine,” Nanny Luo replied with a smile.
“Nanny Luo?” Li Zhiwei looked at her suspiciously.
She suddenly had a bad feeling.
Surely Xu Heming hadn’t strangled the little brats she had just given birth to?
At that thought, Li Zhiwei could no longer remain calm.
The little brats might have been somewhat ugly, but they were still her own flesh and blood.
“My children… They’re still alive, right?” Li Zhiwei asked uncertainly.
“What are you saying, Princess Consort? The young masters are naturally perfectly fine.” Nanny Luo was stunned by Li Zhiwei’s question.
Then she remembered that the young masters had already returned to Prince An’s Residence. What could possibly happen to them?
Who in the residence would dare neglect them?
“Where are they?” Li Zhiwei’s face had already been pale, but now it grew even more ghastly.
She had been on the run for so long. Xu Heming certainly would not let her off easily.
“Little Sister.”
Wen Xiu hurriedly pushed open the door, then quickly closed it behind her.
“Sister-in-law.” Li Zhiwei looked at Wen Xiu anxiously. Then she glanced at Nanny Luo, who was standing respectfully to one side, and said, “Nanny Luo, my sister-in-law and I have something to discuss in private.”
Li Zhiwei wanted to ask Wen Xiu exactly what had happened.
“Princess Consort, His Highness said that you cannot leave this old servant’s sight.” The smile on Nanny Luo’s face did not fade, but she did not leave either.
Li Zhiwei looked at Wen Xiu in horror.
Was Xu Heming having her watched?
At the thought, Li Zhiwei’s expression turned even grimmer.
“Then stand farther away.” Li Zhiwei closed her eyes and spoke helplessly.
Nanny Luo smiled and moved farther from the bed.
“Weiwei, Father, Mother, and the children have all been taken back to Prince An’s Residence,” Wen Xiu said hurriedly, no longer caring about anything else.
“What?” Li Zhiwei was shocked.
“Why did he take Father and Mother there?” Li Zhiwei asked in confusion. The children were his own flesh and blood, so it made sense for him to take them. But why had he brought her parents along as well?
“Prince An said you know very well why,” Wen Xiu replied through gritted teeth.
She knew perfectly well that Prince An had done this simply to force Li Zhiwei to return to the residence.
But she did not dare advise Li Zhiwei to go back. After all, her younger sister had been determined to divorce Prince An. Wen Xiu did not know what had happened between them and did not feel it was her place to interfere.
“He wants to force me to go back.” Li Zhiwei quickly understood Xu Heming’s intentions.
Wen Xiu looked at Li Zhiwei, unsure whether she should persuade her to return or urge her to leave instead.
“Nanny Luo.” Li Zhiwei looked toward Nanny Luo and called out.
“What can this old servant do for you, Princess Consort?” Nanny Luo answered with a smile.
“What else did your prince say?” Li Zhiwei asked, looking at Nanny Luo. She did not believe that bastard Xu Heming had failed to leave further instructions.
“Replying to the Princess Consort, His Highness ordered this old servant to take good care of you,” Nanny Luo quickly answered.
Li Zhiwei frowned. He had not said anything about having her go to Prince An’s Residence.
“I want to see your prince.” Li Zhiwei was unwilling to endure being separated from her children.
Those three children were ones she had nearly given her life to bring into the world.
Why had Xu Heming snatched them away the moment they were born?
That bastard had sworn before that he did not want them.
Prince An’s Residence
“What is this?” The Old Princess asked in confusion when she saw the three swaddled infants Xu Heming had sent over.
After all, her son had taken Nanny Luo, who was usually by her side, away first thing that morning. Now he had brought back several babies.
For a moment, the Old Princess could not understand what her son was trying to do.
“Your precious grandchildren,” Xu Heming said darkly.
“My precious grandchildren?” The Old Princess rose suspiciously and walked toward the swaddled infants. When she saw that they were babies, she was startled.
Thinking of Li Zhiwei’s departure, she remembered that the girl should be close to giving birth. But she had been carrying twins.
Could her son have lost his mind? Did he think that bringing back a few babies from somewhere outside meant they were the children Li Zhiwei had given birth to?
“My son, I know Weiwei’s departure has dealt you a heavy blow. But these babies look as though they’ve only just been born. How could you separate them from their parents?”
The Old Princess silently cursed. What a disaster!
If her son had not refused to let Weiwei abort the children back then, none of this would have happened. Perhaps the children Weiwei had given birth to looked like this too.
At that thought, the Old Princess could not help taking a few more looks at the babies.
Come to think of it, the more she looked, the more she felt they bore some resemblance to Xu Heming.
The Old Princess decided it must simply be her imagination.
