When Xu Heming arrived at the Li residence, its main gates were tightly shut.

Without a second thought, Xu Heming stepped forward and knocked.

However, no matter how hard he knocked, the gates remained firmly closed, as though there were no one inside.

“Your Highness, why don’t we return to the palace for now?” Xu Song quietly reminded him from the side. He couldn’t help thinking that the Li family clearly had no intention of welcoming their prince.

Why insist on entering their residence?

“I must see the princess-consort today.” Xu Heming frowned. How could he possibly return now? Li Zhiwei was planning to divorce him.

He was filled with regret. If only he had known, he would never have left that day.

At the thought of this, he felt deeply troubled.

What he couldn’t understand was how Li Zhiwei could suddenly decide to divorce him when everything had been fine.

“Prince An, you should stop shouting. The Li family won’t agree to see you.” Zhang Yanchu had returned and, upon seeing Xu Heming standing outside the Li residence, quietly offered him a warning.

“What do you know? I’m the eldest miss of the Li family’s husband. How could she refuse to see me?” Xu Heming turned around and glared at Zhang Yanchu without a second thought, wondering whether this man even knew how to speak properly.

“Lord Li is already planning to have his daughter divorce you. You won’t be her husband for much longer,” Zhang Yanchu continued, adding insult to injury without paying any attention to Xu Heming’s anger.

“Hmph. I can’t get in, but do you think you can?” Xu Heming looked at Zhang Yanchu’s confident expression, as though he knew everything, and couldn’t help laughing angrily.

He didn’t believe the Li family welcomed him, so how could they possibly welcome Zhang Yanchu?

“That may not be the case.” After saying this, Zhang Yanchu stepped forward and knocked on the Li family’s gate.

“General Wen.” The servant seemed to know who was outside. He actually opened the gate a crack and greeted him with a smile.

“Prince An, sorry about this. I’m going in.” Zhang Yanchu entered the Li residence with a smug look on his face.

The amusement in his eyes seemed to be mocking Xu Heming: You can’t enter, but I can.

Furious, Xu Heming stepped forward and shoved the servant aside.

“Hey, what are you doing? You’re not welcome here!” The servant fell to the ground, then quickly scrambled back up and moved to block Xu Heming.

“Forget it. You can’t stop him, so just let him in.” Zhang Yanchu hurriedly grabbed the servant and quietly persuaded him.

Inwardly, however, he thought, This is all I can do for you.

Still, Zhang Yanchu was actually rather curious. Li Zhiwei was not an overbearing person by nature, so what exactly had Xu Heming done to make her want a divorce?

After all, from what he could see, Xu Heming seemed to genuinely like his little wife.

But judging by the situation, it seemed that pacifying her this time would be no easy task.

“But the master gave orders that Prince An must not be allowed inside,” the servant said helplessly.

He cast a glance at Zhang Yanchu. He had every reason to suspect that General Wen had done this deliberately. A moment ago, he had been trying to let Wen Hui in.

“It’s fine. I’m going to discuss something with your master.” Zhang Yanchu coughed awkwardly, then hurried into the front hall.

He was worried that if he went any later, he would miss the first-hand details.

The Li residence’s front hall.

“What has Prince An come to my home for?” The moment Li Tianyou thought of that wretch wanting his daughter to terminate her pregnancy, he was furious.

Could this man be afraid that his future grandson would steal his son’s title?

Hmph. The Li family could easily support two children. They had no interest whatsoever in anything belonging to Prince An’s household.

“Father-in-law, could there be some misunderstanding? Zhiwei was perfectly fine. Why does she suddenly want a divorce?” Xu Heming asked anxiously.

He truly had no idea what he had done wrong to make Li Zhiwei so angry.

“A misunderstanding? Prince An, are you worried that the child Zhiwei gives birth to will take the title of Prince An’s residence from your family? If so, then you two might as well divorce. From now on, the child Zhiwei gives birth to will have nothing to do with your household. Our grandchild has no interest in the title of your residence. You can leave it to your eldest son!” As Li Tianyou spoke, he reached for something nearby, preparing to drive Xu Heming away.

“Father-in-law, this is a misunderstanding. I didn’t mean that!” Xu Heming was secretly furious. Who had been spouting nonsense to Li Zhiwei?

He would find that person and tear him limb from limb.

“You didn’t? If you didn’t, then why did you tell Zhiwei to get rid of the child and have Imperial Physician Zhou prepare medicine to induce a miscarriage? What exactly are you plotting?” Li Tianyou happened to grab a feather duster from the side and raised it, ready to strike Xu Heming.

“Father-in-law, that’s not what I meant.” Sweat began to bead on Xu Heming’s forehead. He hadn’t expected his request for Li Zhiwei to terminate the pregnancy to anger her and the entire Li family so deeply.

“That’s not what you meant? Then what did you mean? You simply don’t want my daughter to give birth to your child. Hmph! If I had known what kind of person you were, I would rather have died than let my daughter marry you. Leave my home at once!” Li Tianyou angrily pointed the feather duster toward the door, ordering him to leave.

When Zhang Yanchu arrived and saw the scene, he swallowed nervously.

Lord Li was truly fearless. He dared to scold even Prince An.

Sure enough, being the prince’s father-in-law was the greatest protection of all.

What surprised him was that Xu Heming didn’t seem angry at all.

“Father-in-law, please don’t be angry. Listen to me!” Xu Heming thought that if Li Tianyou was this furious, then Li Zhiwei must be even angrier.

At this thought, he sighed inwardly. He truly hadn’t wanted Li Zhiwei to take the risk. That was why he hadn’t wanted the two children.

If Li Zhiwei lost her life while giving birth to his children, how could he ever forgive himself?

It wasn’t that he absolutely had to have those two children. He simply couldn’t bear to lose Li Zhiwei.

“Spare me your explanations. If you have any sense, sign the divorce agreement and get out of the Li residence at once. You are not welcome here.” As he spoke, Li Tianyou pulled the divorce agreement from inside his robes and flung it at Xu Heming’s face.

“Father-in-law, I will not divorce her.” Xu Heming didn’t even spare the agreement on the ground a glance.

From the moment he had agreed to marry Li Zhiwei, he had never considered divorce.

Much less now, when Li Zhiwei had clearly misunderstood him.

“If you refuse, I’ll go petition His Majesty!” Li Tianyou wasn’t worried that Xu Heming might refuse. After all, they were in the right.

Xu Heming had been the one to wrong them first, so he could not blame them for returning the favor.

Once this matter was settled, he would resign from office and take his wife to accompany Zhiwei.

As for whether his son and daughter-in-law wished to go with them or remain in the capital, he would respect their decision.

“Father-in-law, I truly don’t mean that I don’t want the children in Zhiwei’s womb. I’m only worried that her body won’t be able to endure it and that she’ll fall into a coma again.” Xu Heming hurriedly dropped to his knees before Li Tianyou and pleaded with him.

Seeing Xu Heming suddenly kneel in front of him, Li Tianyou’s eyes widened.

This man was Prince An!
