The Fluffballs I Fed Were SSS-Rank Beastmen
Chapter 75: Pinning the Blame on the Rebel Army
Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Pinning the Blame on the Rebel Army
Watching the Canglan Hunting Eagle, whose beak was clamped shut but who showed absolutely no resistance—even gently fluttering its wings as it flew toward Liang He—Lan Zhuo’s silence was somewhat deafening.
After successfully rescuing Lan Zhuo’s hair from Lanton’s mouth, Liang He just gave him a mild glance before soothing the Canglan Hunting Eagle’s restless mood.
"Dr. Lan Zhuo, were you looking for me?"
Watching Liang He effortlessly pin down his unruly biological brother, Lan Zhuo suddenly felt a tangible sense of the rumors he had heard about her.
"Apologies, Station Chief Liang. I just wanted to take the Silver Moon Wolf for a checkup. I didn’t expect you all to be sleeping in the same room."
Before Liang He, no one would eat and sleep alongside fierce beasts, let alone ordinary animals. Lan Zhuo couldn’t be blamed for his lack of experience.
"I see." Hearing this, Liang He’s lips curled up slightly. She then waved to the Silver Moon Wolf, who was currently grooming her pups. "The Silver Moon Wolf is still a bit guarded around humans. I’ll have to go with her. You don’t mind, do you, Dr. Lan Zhuo?"
"Of course not. Sorry to trouble you, Station Chief Liang."
Lan Zhuo wasn’t surprised that Liang He was tagging along. The Silver Moon Wolf had previously been severely injured by humans, and her mate had been taken away, his fate unknown. It was perfectly normal for her to be wary of humans. The reason the Federal Animal Research Institute hadn’t forcibly taken the Silver Moon Wolf was because they valued Liang He’s ability to soothe her, ensuring better cooperation for research and treatment.
"Haven’t the Silver Moon Wolf’s injuries mostly healed? Why does she still need a checkup?" Liang He asked with casual curiosity as she watched the wolf step onto the medical scanner once more.
Lan Zhuo didn’t think much of it and directly informed her about the Silver Moon Wolf’s mutation. "Since her severe injury last time, the Silver Moon Wolf hasn’t just shown strong regenerative abilities. She even seems to be undergoing further enhancement. We need to keep her under observation."
Lan Zhuo believed that if they wanted Liang He to fully cooperate with their research on the Silver Moon Wolf, she had to know the truth. Whether they chose to hide it or lie to her, it would leave her with a bad impression of the Institute, and the loss would outweigh the gain.
"Enhancement?" Liang He frowned slightly, silently repeating the word. A strange glint flashed through her eyes, vanishing as quickly as it appeared.
"Yes. If the previous Silver Moon Wolf’s attack power was around B-level, she is now showing signs of developing toward A-level," Lan Zhuo explained.
The test report soon came out. The data on it once again proved that the Silver Moon Wolf was genuinely enhancing her own strength.
"Isn’t that a good thing?" Seeing Lan Zhuo’s furrowed brow, Liang He tilted her head in confusion, not understanding why he looked so troubled.
"Station Chief Liang, you’ve faced the Rebel Army and the Fierce Beasts head-on, so there’s no need for me to hide anything from you."
In Lan Zhuo’s eyes, someone capable of taming so many fierce beasts would, at the very least, have excellent mental fortitude. Furthermore, he had heard the grand tales of Liang He single-handedly slaying half of a Fierce Beast pack.
"We have reason to suspect that the Silver Moon Wolf’s enhancement is related to the Rebel Army’s latest research."
The Rebel Army?
Liang He, who had been holding her breath, listened to Lan Zhuo’s speculation and pursed her lips to suppress an upward curve. She nodded in strong agreement. "Mhm, I think your suspicions are very reasonable!"
"You think so too?" Lan Zhuo had expected Liang He to laugh at them for overthinking, so he hadn’t anticipated her approval.
"Of course. The capture of the Silver Moon Wolf’s mate, the Dark Night Wolf King, is perfect proof of that, isn’t it?"
Proof that the Rebel Army was indeed conducting illegal research. Whether they wanted to turn the Dark Night Wolf King into an ordinary Fierce Beast or conduct even more advanced experiments, it was something Liang He despised and could not tolerate.
Since that was the case, letting them take the blame for this was no big deal, right?
"Exactly! The Fierce Beast Army used to be mostly ordinary animals, but this time they went to great lengths to capture the Dark Night Wolf King. There must be a larger conspiracy hidden behind this!"
It was as if Lan Zhuo had found an ally. Getting slightly worked up, he pulled Liang He into an intense discussion. In the end, the impatient Mengji Snow Leopard grew tired of waiting and specifically ran over from the animal dormitories to catch her, "biting" Liang He’s clothes and dragging her back.
When the moon climbed up the branches, Liang He was surrounded by a bunch of fluffballs in the very center. Her hands and feet were stuffed under their bellies, using the fierce beasts as living heating pads, which made her sleep exceptionally soundly.
A figure shimmering with an iridescent light silently left the service area, heading deep into the untrodden forest. Avoiding the surveillance cameras, he transformed into his human form.
"I never expected the Rebel Army to actually have the ability to elevate the strength of ordinary animals. I really underestimated them."
Under the bright moonlight, the black-haired, black-eyed Elias wore a V-neck robe draped lazily over his body, faintly revealing his pale, muscular chest. He had thought that the Rebel Army developing the Fierce Beast Army was already an incredibly rare feat, but the conversation between Liang He and Lan Zhuo tonight had given him a new surprise.
Elias used his fingertips to lightly brush a stray lock of hair behind his ear, a hint of amusement hiding in his eyes.
BEEP BEEP BEEP.
"Does the mighty tiger rule the earth?" a voice came from his hidden communicator.
Elias replied softly, "The little cat catches the mouse."
The secret code successfully matched, and a joyful voice sounded from the other end. As their leader, Elias had lost contact during the raid on the reserve, which had left his subordinates worried sick.
"Boss! You’ve finally come back to life!"
"...What do you mean ’come back to life’?" he replied, feeling as though the man was implying he had died once.
"Huh? Oh, did I say the wrong thing again?" The subordinate on the other end laughed awkwardly. Remembering that Elias couldn’t see his current expression, he hurriedly admitted his mistake. "Boss, I was wrong! Please don’t be mad!"
"Alright, cut the nonsense. What’s the situation outside right now?" Elias knew exactly what kind of person his subordinate was. If he actually took it to heart, he was afraid he’d die of anger.
"Oh, right. Valken has been temporarily stationed at another stronghold by the Rebel Army."
After saying that, the subordinate went silent. This left Elias truly speechless, making him laugh out of pure exasperation.
"Heh. I’ll give you one more chance to tell me the movements of the Rebel Army and the Federation."
Hearing Elias’s sneering warning, the man on the other end subconsciously shivered and quickly spilled everything he knew.
"Yes, sir! The Rebel Army recently captured an SSS-level Beastman. It’s said that their Beast Form is a Spirit Deer, and they don’t belong to any faction."
Deer were inherently gentle and pure-natured, and they weren’t very wary of humans. It wasn’t surprising that one had been caught by the Rebel Army.
"Additionally, the Federation has intensified its crackdown on the Rebel Army. The Empire, the Royal Court, and the Temple are all involved."
"The Empire, the Royal Court, and the Temple?"
This made Elias somewhat surprised. Leaving aside the Golden Radiance Empire and the Star Shining Royal Court for now, he never expected the Silver Wing Temple, which had always kept to its own remote corner, to get involved.
Could it be...
"As far as I know, the Saint Heir of the Silver Wing Temple seems to have been missing for a long time. Do you have any news about him?"
If it was really as he thought, then perhaps continuing to stay by Liang He’s side was the best strategy.
