Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Respecting the Old and Caring for the Young Is a Traditional Virtue, and the Same Goes for Killer Whales
"Liang He! Liang He?! Can you hear me?"
Ao Ke snatched the walkie-talkie from Huo An’s hand and frantically called out to Liang He. Huo An had no objections to this; even if Ao Ke hadn’t made the call, he would have verified her safety the moment he could.
"I can hear you. What’s wrong?"
Everyone’s gaze unanimously focused on the walkie-talkie. It wasn’t until her voice came through that they finally released their bated breath.
"You’re moving right now, do you know that?" Huo An asked in a calm and even tone. Knowing her quite well, he could gauge her current state just by listening to her voice.
"I know. I asked the Tiger Whale Baby to take me to their leader." Perhaps realizing she had caused everyone to worry, Liang He quickly relayed her recent conversation with the Killer Whales. "The Tiger Whale Baby said they were just following their Clan Leader’s orders to come and play with you all. They won’t actually hurt you."
Liang He was quite certain of this point because humans simply weren’t on a Killer Whale’s menu. They weren’t like sharks; although humans weren’t on a shark’s menu either, sharks were rather dim-witted and always insisted on taking a bite to confirm it for themselves. This habit often resulted in humans suffering massive wounds from an initial bite, only to be bitten again by the next shark—one bite after another until they were sent straight to their graves.
"...Alright, we understand."
Goring and the others were left somewhat speechless by Liang He’s explanation. What were these Killer Whales thinking? Treating them like toys? Just coming out to play? If they kept playing, someone was going to get killed!
"Then stay safe and keep in touch at all times."
Given the current circumstances, there was no way for them to send anyone after Liang He. They could only remind her to be careful. Fortunately, Lanton was still flying in the sky, closely tailing behind her. Otherwise, they truly wouldn’t have been able to set their minds at ease.
"Got it. Oh, right, Brother Hao, could you pass the walkie-talkie to Cedriel for a second?"
Suddenly called out, Cedriel, with the worry in his eyes yet to fade, immediately dashed over to where Huo An stood.
"HOWL!"
Ao Ke and the others had been in such a panic from the very beginning that no one had paid any mind to Cedriel. The Mojin King Tiger’s heart and eyes were entirely focused on Liang He. If it weren’t for the fact that maneuvering at sea was inconvenient, he would have bounded over to her long ago.
"Cedriel, I’m fine. I’m doing perfectly well. I need you to be a good boy, stay on the Sea Ship, and wait for me to come back. Do you understand?" Liang He said. As the Breeder for the Mojin King Tiger, she understood his personality entirely too well. If Huo An and the crew were this worried about her, Cedriel would only be agonizing even more. Since he couldn’t speak in a way that the others could understand, Liang He had specifically requested to talk to him.
"HOWL!"
Hearing Liang He’s caring words, a warm feeling washed over Cedriel’s entire body. It was as if he were soaking in boundless tenderness, and his normally piercing tiger eyes softened considerably.
"WHINE~"
He was telling Liang He to stay safe, and that he would be waiting for her return.
"Thank you for worrying about me, Cedriel. Alright, I’m going to sign off for now."
Liang He disconnected the walkie-talkie and focused her attention on discerning the Tiger Whale Baby’s travel route. Although the device had a built-in GPS locator, it was better to rely on her own memory to track the path, just in case.
"Tiger Whale Baby, how much longer until we get there?" she asked. Looking back at the Sea Ship, which had already shrunk to a barely visible speck, she felt they had traveled quite a distance.
"SQUEAK SQUEAK!"
Soon, they would be there very soon!
The Killer Whales’ active territory was strictly within the G Sea Area. No matter how far they swam, they wouldn’t cross into another sector. Before long, the Tiger Whale Baby slowed its pace, and Liang He knew they were nearing their destination.
"TRILL!"
The Tiger Whale Baby was summoning its Grandma Tiger Whale.
"CHIRP~"
Hearing the echoing response from the depths of the ocean, Liang He knew the little creature hadn’t tricked her.
"Can you tell Grandma Tiger Whale that I’d like to see it?" Liang He asked. Without a diving suit, it was impossible for her to dive to the ocean floor. Moreover, even if she could, she wouldn’t be able to communicate with the Killer Whales underwater. Therefore, it would be far more convenient if she could get the Clan Leader to come up to the surface.
"SQUEAK!"
The Tiger Whale Baby seemed to be quite fond of Liang He. The sensation of her petting its head earlier was incredibly wonderful, and it loved it! As a result, it agreed to Liang He’s request without a second thought. After all, it was still just a baby, lacking the complex schemes of an adult.
"SQUEAK SQUEAK!"
"CHIRP!"
Listening to the back-and-forth calls between the grandparent and grandchild, Liang He could roughly deduce that Grandma Tiger Whale had agreed to her request for a parley. Soon, she felt the surrounding seawater begin to surge and roll.
"WHIMPER~"
The Tiger Whale Baby continued to steadily support Liang He and the small boat, reassuring her not to worry. This amount of weight was a piece of cake for it. After all, an adult Killer Whale could weigh several tons, with the largest tipping the scales at ten tons. Given Liang He’s petite frame, even with the added weight of the boat, it was an effortless task.
"You’re amazing, Tiger Whale Baby!"
Recognizing that it was fishing for compliments, Liang He did not skimp on her praise. Her lavish compliments left the creature so dizzy with joy that it almost couldn’t resist wagging its tail again. Fortunately, Grandma Tiger Whale arrived right on time. It breached the surface and successfully "suppressed" the mischievous Little Tiger Whale.
"CHIRP~"
Grandma Tiger Whale scolded the Tiger Whale Baby to be careful, warning it not to drop the human into the sea.
"SQUEAK!"
Thoroughly chastised, the Tiger Whale Baby obediently played dead. It remained perfectly still, with only its adorable eyes darting around. Unfortunately, since Liang He was situated above it, she missed this incredibly endearing display.
"CHIRP~ CHIRP~"
Grandma Tiger Whale looked toward Liang He, asking what she wanted.
"Hello, Grandma Tiger Whale. I was hoping to ask why you ordered the other Killer Whales to ’attack’ the Sea Ship?"
From what Liang He had gathered from Ao Ke, the Killer Whales had never exhibited this kind of behavior before. Otherwise, the crew wouldn’t have been caught so entirely off guard.
"CHIRP!"
It just wanted to play with the humans, what of it?
Grandma Tiger Whale’s completely unapologetic and self-righteous demeanor was practically a carbon copy of the Tiger Whale Baby’s, leaving Liang He caught between exasperation and amusement. However, looking at the lifespan of the Tiger Whale Clan, male Killer Whales typically lived for fifty to sixty years, while females could reach around eighty. With that kind of conversion, it was only right for Liang He to respect her elders.
"I know you must have your own reasons. Can you really not tell me?" Liang He continued to reason calmly and patiently with Grandma Tiger Whale.
Her gentle tone caused Grandma Tiger Whale’s massive body to give a noticeable jolt. It finally deigned to look at her properly, then proceeded to circle around her and the Tiger Whale Baby once more.
"CHIRP~"
Grandma Tiger Whale gently sniffed the unique scent emanating from Liang He. Its intelligence, comparable to that of a fifteen- or sixteen-year-old human, paired with decades of life experience, led it to realize that the human before it was far from ordinary.
"CHIRP~ CHIRP~"
Liang He did her best to extract useful information from Grandma Tiger Whale’s calls, but the resulting translation made her frown. It meant that a disaster was about to befall this maritime region, so it was preemptively training the teamwork and coordination of the Tiger Whale Clan.
"A disaster? What kind of disaster?" Liang He asked.
Could it be related to the Mysterious Sea Area? Aside from that, Liang He couldn’t think of any other possibility.
"CHIRP! CHIRP!"
