Chapter 239: Chapter 239: Ocean Dominator? Street Punk!
Lick weakly raised a hand. He organized his thoughts. For some unknown reason, Liang He wasn’t being attacked by the Killer Whales right now, so she could be considered safe. And their original plan had actually been to use Liang He to communicate with the Killer Whales, asking them to help explore the Mysterious Sea Area. Wasn’t this the perfect opportunity?
"Although it happened by a twist of fate, it seems there’s no other way."
Lick wasn’t wrong.
For a moment, everyone fell silent. It wasn’t until the walkie-talkie in Huo An’s hand crackled to life that he realized Liang He had been listening to their discussion all along.
"Brother Hao, I can try communicating with the Killer Whales, but I need to find their leader. Can you help me spot it?" Liang He’s voice came through the walkie-talkie.
Killer Whales were a matriarchal society. As long as they could identify the females and deduce which one was the leader, she could communicate with her directly. Otherwise, if she found a random underling and had to pass messages up the chain of command, the crew on the Sea Ship would probably end up collapsing from the torment.
"Alright, I’ll have everyone help look for the Killer Whale leader," Huo An replied. "Take care of yourself first. If you notice anything wrong, have Lanton bring you back immediately."
As soon as Huo An finished speaking, everyone sprang into action.
Ao Ke, who was relatively knowledgeable about Killer Whales, immediately shared some relevant facts to help everyone identify the females.
"Female Killer Whales have three slits on their lower abdomens, while males only have one. Everyone, look closely!"
That was easier said than done. The current situation was that the Killer Whales were hiding stealthily beneath the surface. It was impossible for them to roll over and expose their bellies for observation.
"This won’t work! Ao Ke, is there any other way?!" Although Leila had sharp eyes, in a situation like this, she couldn’t put her skills to use.
"Adult male Killer Whales are longer than females, and they weigh twice as much!" This method of identification actually had its limitations and couldn’t provide a precise judgment, which was why Ao Ke hadn’t thought of it earlier.
"Alright! Everyone, look for the smaller Killer Whales first, and then we’ll figure out a way to see how many slits they have on their underbellies!" Huo An quickly summarized the identification method, trying to save every possible second.
"Got it!"
Everyone, including the newly rescued divers—anyone capable of moving—sprang into action. A crowd instantly gathered around the railings of the Sea Ship, swaying dizzily as they began trying to identify the Killer Whale leader.
Meanwhile, far from the crashing waves, Liang He sat steadily on her small boat, pondering her next move.
She wondered, "Why did the Killer Whales suddenly surround the Sea Ship?"
After realizing the Killer Whales’ presence, Liang He had begun to closely observe the situation around the Sea Ship. Fortunately, she had asked for a pair of binoculars right before boarding the boat. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to see anything clearly from over a hundred meters away.
She thought, "Is there something on the Sea Ship that the Killer Whales want?"
But that didn’t make sense either. The Sea Ship had always been stationed in this area. If there was something the Killer Whales wanted, they wouldn’t have waited until now to go after it. Unless it was something they brought on board yesterday.
She mused, "Our luggage was strictly inspected before we boarded. There shouldn’t be any contraband items."
Liang He quickly discarded this idea. Because the Sea Ship’s weight capacity was limited, and to protect the marine environment, all supplies brought on board had to be carefully inspected. It was absolutely impossible for there to be anything the Killer Whales desired.
She reasoned, "Although Killer Whales are called whales, they actually belong to the dolphin family. They are essentially Ocean Dominators and absolute predators, so they definitely aren’t here for food."
Moreover, judging by this formation, it seemed like all the Killer Whales in this sea area had gathered here. After thinking it over and over, Liang He still couldn’t figure it out. What exactly were they here for?
She thought, "This won’t work. I’m too far away from them. Should I get a little closer?"
Unable to wait for news any longer, Liang He could no longer sit still. Although the Killer Whales hadn’t attacked her—even seemingly ignoring her existence—Cedriel and the others were still on the Sea Ship. Liang He couldn’t just sit by and do nothing.
"SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK!"
Just as Liang He was preparing to steer the boat back toward the Sea Ship, she suddenly heard a noise coming from beneath her, startling her into stopping immediately. Liang He leaned over and peered over the edge of the boat into the water. Only then did she discover to her astonishment that there was a Killer Whale right beneath her boat!
"Wait... why are you under my boat?"
No wonder she hadn’t felt the slightest impact from the waves earlier. She wasn’t actually in the water at all—she was resting on the Killer Whale’s back! The Killer Whale had actually lifted her and the entire boat right out of the water!
"SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK!"
Hearing Liang He’s voice, the Killer Whale beneath the boat happily wagged its tail. It had been pretending not to be there the whole time, and holding back had nearly killed it.
"Stop! Stop shaking!"
With one flick of the Killer Whale’s tail, Liang He and the boat nearly went flying.
"If you keep shaking, I’m going to capsize sooner or later!"
"SQUEAK?"
Having been scolded, the Killer Whale stopped moving, feeling incredibly wronged. It wanted to lift its head to look at Liang He, but remembering her words, it didn’t dare to move recklessly again. Hearing the Killer Whale’s aggrieved whimpers, Liang He steadied her body, leaned over the edge of the boat, and reached out to pet its head.
"Alright, I didn’t mean to yell at you. Don’t be sad."
This was Liang He’s first time encountering a Killer Whale at such close range. The unique texture transmitted through her fingertips made it hard for her to pull away. She pet it for a good while before finally remembering the matter at hand.
"Right, can you tell me why you guys are attacking the Sea Ship? That big boat over there." With a ready-made interrogation target right in front of her, Liang He didn’t bother making the trip.
"SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK!"
"Clan Leader grandma told us to play with the humans," it conveyed.
Analyzing the Killer Whale’s response, Liang He figured out three things.
First, this Killer Whale beneath her was likely a Tiger Whale Baby, not yet an adult. Second, Clan Leader grandma must be the leader of this pod of Killer Whales. Third, it had just mentioned "playing," which meant they wouldn’t harm the humans.
But why would the Clan Leader of the Killer Whales give such an order?
"Do you know why Clan Leader grandma asked you to play with the humans?"
Liang He had actually heard a little about how mischievous Killer Whales could be. On Blue Star, they were known as the ocean’s resident hooligans. Occasionally showing their dorsal fins near the shore to scare tourists was a common occurrence.
"SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK!"
It said it didn’t know, and it said so with absolute righteousness. Alright, Liang He couldn’t hold that against a Tiger Whale Baby.
"Then can you take me to find your Clan Leader grandma?"
Although she still didn’t understand the Killer Whales’ motives, saving everyone first was definitely the right move. This group of fragile humans couldn’t withstand being toyed with by dozens or hundreds of Killer Whales!
"SQUEAK!"
This time, the Tiger Whale Baby was very straightforward. It sprang into action immediately, dragging Liang He and her boat away.
Meanwhile, the people searching for the Killer Whale leader were coming up empty-handed. When they looked up in horror and realized Liang He was getting further and further away from them, panic immediately set in.
"Why is Liang He getting further away?!"
"Does she think it’s too dangerous over here, so she wants to keep her distance?"
Ao Ke’s analysis made sense, but only if it applied to anyone else. Those familiar with Liang He knew perfectly well that simply not approaching the danger was already considered being incredibly obedient for her.
"No, the boat’s engine hasn’t even been started. How on earth is she moving away?!"
