Chapter 140: Chapter 140: The Person Who Truly Wants to See Liang He

"You’re telling me she has to finish paying the animals their promised reward before she can see me?"

Colonel Leo of the Federation Army was in charge of the relief mission to Greenfield Star. When he learned that thousands of Fierce Beasts had appeared on the planet, it was no exaggeration to say he had braced himself to be reprimanded by his superiors. After all, Huo An had given them advance warning. Even knowing the Rebel Army might attack, they hadn’t arrived immediately. If the people left on Greenfield Star had been wiped out, he would have been the first to bear the blame.

"Colonel, should we send someone to ask her again?"

His subordinate couldn’t gauge Leo’s intentions, but he didn’t want him to make things difficult for Liang He either. Everyone knew that without a single casualty in this battle, Liang He’s contribution was indispensable. Oh, the Rebel Army had been annihilated along with their warships, so they weren’t counted in the death toll.

"What are you thinking? She has proper business to attend to. Do I have the right to demand an audience with her?"

Leo had originally just wanted to thank Liang He in person for her righteous actions. If he weren’t tied down as the supreme commander of the Federation Army, he would never have had the audacity to send his subordinates to summon her.

"Ahem... Then I’ll go help clean up the battlefield." Amused by Leo’s words, the subordinate suppressed a smile and excused himself with feigned solemnity. The moment he stepped off the Federation Army’s warship, he burst into uncontrollable laughter, nearly wheezing for breath.

Feeling the disdainful and questioning gazes of his comrades, who clearly wondered if there was something wrong with his head, he instantly composed himself and pitched in with the post-battle cleanup.

Little did the subordinate know, Colonel Leo had already appeared in another room, respectfully reporting the situation to someone else.

"Duke Elitier, Miss Liang He is still handling the aftermath of the battlefield. I’m afraid it isn’t convenient for her to see you right now."

Duke Elitier was the current Family Head of the Eli family of the Empire. He shouldn’t have been here, but after hearing that a certain person might be on Greenfield Star, he had requested the Federation allow him to tag along.

"And what about him?"

Realizing who Elitier was referring to, Leo pursed his lips. He recalled his subordinate’s report and carefully phrased his response. "Elias engaged in a fierce battle with Mr. Huo An but was no match for him. He escaped after the Fierce Beast Army appeared."

Hearing Elias’s name again, Elitier couldn’t help but furrow his brow. He was deeply dissatisfied with this younger brother who had betrayed the family and willingly fallen from grace.

"Understood. You may leave."

The person who truly wanted to see Liang He was Elitier. His underlying reason was to find out the relationship between Liang He and Elias.

Just as Leo was about to leave, Elitier suddenly spoke again. "Colonel Leo, I suggest you strictly lock down Greenfield Star. Everyone leaving must be thoroughly searched to prevent any members of the Rebel Army from seizing the opportunity to escape." Though phrased as a suggestion, the unquestionable tone in his voice was glaringly obvious.

Recalling his superiors’ hints before departure, Leo had no desire to clash with Elitier. Besides, the proposal wasn’t unreasonable, so he agreed. "Thank you for the reminder, Duke Eli. I will pass down the orders."

After Leo left, Elitier, who was sitting on the leather sofa in the lounge, poured himself a glass of wine. Downing it in one gulp, he leaned back wearily against the sofa and closed his eyes, his thoughts unreadable.

"Hoder, hurry up and help!"

Unaware of who exactly wanted to see her, Liang He truly couldn’t step away at the moment. She had enlisted the animals’ help with the promise of a reward. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have had the nerve to ask them to risk their lives for absolutely nothing in return. Since the Fierce Beasts were infected with a virus, they obviously couldn’t serve as food for the animals. Therefore, Liang He had promised to provide them with fresh, ready-to-eat food once the battle was over.

"Coming, coming! Boss, what are your orders? What do you need me to do?"

Liang He’s contributions in this battle were obvious to all. Even the people who had stayed in the underground shelter were given a full rundown of the thrilling battle and Liang He’s heroic deeds the moment they returned to the hotel lobby. It was impossible not to know.

"I promised to distribute food to them. Go ask the hotel manager how much stock they have."

"You got it!"

Hoder was now completely obedient to Liang He, jumping to action at her every word. Without a second of hesitation, he began running errands up and down.

"Miss Liang He, we’d like to help too."

Liang He hadn’t exactly kept her voice down when calling for Hoder. The crowd, who had already been keeping a close eye on her and felt ashamed for hiding in the shelter without contributing, immediately swarmed over, offering their assistance.

Just as Liang He felt a bit guilty about troubling them, President Lucas took the lead and spoke up. "Liang He, we couldn’t help on the battlefield. Now that the Fierce Beasts are under control, doing some logistics work is the least we can do. It’ll also make us feel a bit better, so please don’t refuse."

Hearing this, Liang He stopped hesitating. She nodded right away and began delegating tasks. "Most of the people here are Breeders, and there are various animals gathered outside the hotel. Could I ask each of you to claim a specific species? Please list out their favorite foods so we can distribute them accordingly."

Everyone had their own expertise, and each animal’s diet was different. If Liang He had to sort everything out by herself, it would be a massive waste of time and energy. A one-to-one responsibility system would make things much easier.

"No problem! Leave it to us!"

With a clear goal, everyone worked together and quickly sprang into action.

However, when they stepped outside the hotel and saw the devastated battlefield, along with the animals waiting obediently for their food, they couldn’t help but tear up. It was humans who had harmed these creatures and turned them into Fierce Beasts, yet the animals were still willing to trust and help them. This trust and assistance made them feel utterly ashamed.

"Are these Fierce Beasts... really beyond saving?" someone asked sorrowfully.

President Lucas also fell silent. He had spent his entire life rescuing animals, yet the number he had personally saved likely didn’t even match the death toll of today. It was a terrible feeling.

"Don’t worry. Many of the Fierce Beasts lying here are just under anesthetics. The actual mortality rate shouldn’t exceed one-third." Hoder had just received the supply inventory from the hotel manager and was sent by Liang He to find President Lucas and the others. He happened to overhear their conversation.

"Aside from Cedriel’s group and the animals, thanks to Liang He’s reminder, everyone’s first priority was to incapacitate the Fierce Beasts. Lethal force was only used as a last resort, which is why it just looks so gruesome."

"Incapacitate? Don’t Fierce Beasts fight to the bitter end?" Vice President Tai Nan was among those who had volunteered to help. Once everything was over, he intended to willingly face trial at the Federal Court. As for his assistant, Ah Jie, he had been detained immediately.

"Exactly. I studied Fierce Beasts alongside the Animal Research Institute. Unless massive doses of anesthetic are used, they simply will not stop attacking." President Lucas was equally baffled by Hoder’s claim.

Feeling the intense, curious gazes of everyone around him, Hoder was startled into taking half a step back, but he stopped himself for the sake of his pride. When he recalled Liang He telling him the method to incapacitate the Fierce Beasts, he had found it just as unbelievable as they did now.

"The method Liang He taught us was—"
