Chapter 126: Chapter 126: Report! Someone Is Trying to Poach Again!

Experience?

This question genuinely stumped Liang He. She thought about it seriously and realized that when dealing with Fierce Beasts, she had no technique—only brute strength.

"Absolute power overcomes all tricks. In the face of absolute Combat Power, any schemes or tricks amount to nothing."

Liang He’s answer wasn’t wrong, but putting it into practice had a success rate close to zero. After all, cultivating the Federation Army alone consumed a vast amount of resources. Raising the Combat Power of the reserve’s personnel sounded highly unrealistic. If they had the Federation Army stationed in the reserves, who would protect the citizens? When the Rebel Army inevitably took citizens hostage, wouldn’t the Federation be forced into an even more passive position?

It was a lose-lose situation. Incredibly difficult!

"Sigh... I really envy Sky Shining Star for having such a capable person as Miss Liang He."

"Exactly. If our reserve also had someone who could single-handedly sweep through half of the Fierce Beast Army, what would we have to worry about?"

"It looks like we can only wait for the Federation to take action. We can’t deal with the Rebel Army and the Fierce Beasts on our own."

The undisguised disappointment of the crowd actually made Liang He feel quite embarrassed. She wondered if she had spoken too bluntly and dampened their enthusiasm. Just as she was racking her brains for a way to comfort everyone, the person who had previously slapped her on the back and caused her to practically die of embarrassment suddenly pulled her aside to whisper.

"Ahem... Miss Liang He, would you be interested in jumping ship?"

"Huh?" Liang He thought she had misheard, her eyes filled with confusion.

Jump ship? She was doing perfectly fine on Sky Shining Star; why would she want to leave? Besides, all her furry friends were on Sky Shining Star. For their sake alone, it was impossible for her to leave.

"Here’s the thing. I am Goring, the Vice District Chief of the Skalan Star Reserve."

Goring looked to be around thirty years old and wore a pair of unadorned black-framed glasses. At first glance, he appeared somewhat refined and introverted. But upon closer inspection, one would notice the hidden intelligence in the eyes behind those lenses.

"Skalan Star is primarily an Ocean Planet. Our reserve occupies nearly half of the sea area, and we mainly protect various marine life." Before Liang He could even react, Goring rapidly introduced the situation at the Skalan Star Reserve, forcefully choking back the polite refusal she was about to utter. "Does Miss Liang He like dolphins? Whales? Or perhaps... Mermaids?"

Liang He, who had been looking for a chance to interrupt Goring, suddenly snapped her head up upon hearing the word "Mermaids," staring at him with sparkling eyes.

"Did you just say... Mermaids?"

Was it real? She wondered if she had misheard, or if Goring was deliberately tricking her.

"Yes, yes, yes! Mermaids!" Seeing that Liang He had finally given some positive feedback, Goring immediately nodded in excitement, almost getting caught in the act of secretly poaching talent. "The kind of Mermaids with a human upper body and a fish tail! They’re absolutely beautiful and sing wonderfully!"

Mermaids were actually a type of Beastman. However, their Beast Form was a human torso with a fish tail; they simply wouldn’t completely turn into fish. Due to various limitations, Mermaids were at most rated as SS-level Beastmen, so they didn’t need to go through an Evolutionary Stage.

"So Mermaids really do exist." Liang He had only seen Mermaids in movies before and wondered if they looked the same as she imagined.

Clearly sensing Liang He’s keen interest in Mermaids, Goring struck while the iron was hot and exchanged contact numbers with her.

"If you ever want to see Mermaids, Skalan will welcome you at any time."

And so, while the discussions in the conference room raged on, Goring endlessly talked Liang He’s ear off about how wonderful Skalan Star was and how beautiful the Mermaids were. It wasn’t until the meeting ended and Hoder came to pick up Liang He that he finally left, albeit reluctantly, out of fear that he would be beaten up if his poaching was discovered.

"Big sister!"

Because Liang He had to attend the meeting, the Platinum Giant Lion couldn’t tag along and was left in Hoder’s care. As it happened, Beibei had been clamoring to play with the Platinum Giant Lion, so Evelyn took her to find Hoder and they decided to pick Liang He up from "work" together.

"Beibei, slow down!"

The moment Beibei saw Liang He, she became exceptionally happy and sprinted toward her at top speed. Even Evelyn, her own mother, felt a twinge of jealousy.

"Careful!"

The hotel’s floor tiles had apparently just been mopped in order to maintain a spotless, translucent shine. In her haste, Beibei accidentally slipped. Fortunately, Liang He reacted quickly and grabbed Beibei in time; otherwise, the little girl would have likely hit the back of her head on the ground, spilling blood on the spot.

"Beibei!"

Evelyn quickly ran toward her daughter and almost took a tumble herself. Luckily, the Platinum Giant Lion acted as a cushion behind her, saving Evelyn from danger.

"Evelyn, are you okay?"

"I... I’m fine."

Evelyn was also a bit stunned. After being pulled up by Liang He, she hugged her daughter tightly and patted her back gently, not knowing if she was comforting Beibei or herself.

"Why is this floor so slippery?" Sensing that something was wrong, Hoder frowned deeply. He crouched down and wiped the floor with his fingertips, discovering that the tiles were exceptionally slick.

"Is there a problem?" Liang He asked the Platinum Giant Lion to guard Evelyn and Beibei, then crouched down next to Hoder. Seeing his frown, she knew something was up.

"Yeah. There’s a lot of cleaning agent residue on the ground, which can easily cause slip and fall accidents. Logically, the hotel shouldn’t be making such a rookie mistake."

As the only and most luxurious hotel on Greenfield Star, a lack of competition didn’t mean they could be perfunctory. On the contrary, if the service was subpar, the entire hotel team would be replaced without hesitation. The hotel’s management rights were in the hands of the Federation; the staff were merely hired managers.

"Are you suspecting this was deliberate?" Liang He asked. If someone did it on purpose, what was their motive?

"The guests staying at this hotel are all wealthy or influential. Even the Breeders attending the training represent their respective reserves. Safety issues simply cannot be ignored."

For the hotel to dare make such a low-level error, they either wanted to be fired or were purely out of their minds, trying to draw hatred and attract lawsuits before getting kicked out.

"This is right outside the conference room. Could it be targeting the people attending the meeting?" But because Liang He had been held back by Goring for a chat, she was actually the last one out. Before this, there had been no news of anyone slipping. "Perhaps... the target was me?"

Liang He offered this theory hesitantly, wondering if she was thinking too highly of herself. Was she really worth someone going through all this trouble to scheme against her?

"It’s hard to say. Just be careful lately."

Liang He’s deduction caused Hoder’s expression to turn increasingly grim. He stood up and looked around but didn’t spot any suspicious individuals. They had probably realized the plan had failed and slipped away long ago.

Nearby, Evelyn and Beibei seemed to have recovered from the shock. With the Platinum Giant Lion’s companionship, they quickly calmed down, but then noticed Liang He and Hoder’s poor expressions, mistaking it for the fright they had caused.

"Liang He, thank you for earlier. You saved Beibei once again."

"It was no trouble at all. Don’t mention it." Afraid of scaring Beibei, Liang He concealed the dark look in her eyes and gave a gentle smile. She softly patted the little girl’s head, then looked at Evelyn. "Evelyn, if you are willing to trust me, could you promise me one thing?"
