The First Legendary Beast Master
Chapter 2068: Safety In Stones
To pass the time, now that the city was calmed down and back to normal, Karl decided that he would try to modify the Villa Stones in the way that the Supreme Ranked members had described to him.
A life-saving device that would give you somewhere to retreat or respawn.
That was easy enough, in theory. He could build in a resurrection spell, healing arrays, and more. The problem was that he had never tried to make one that could be worked remotely.
Then, he realized that he didn’t actually have to make it activate remotely. All he had to do was make it transport you to a certain spot when it was activated.
The activation could be manual, or on physical death.
Then, it would pull your body, or all your body parts, inside, and immediately send you to the specified location, using stored mana.
That would work wonderfully, as it could be set to a camp on the battlefield, and a cheaper version, which didn’t include the automatic resurrection and recovery separate space, could be made and mass distributed here in this world.
There were other tokens that did similar things, like calling an Elder to a location if the disciple was in danger. So, a new design that sent the disciple back home after death would eliminate body looting of Clan members, and allow them to be brought back with minimal fuss.
Sure, it would be limited in range, as the Immortal Realm, or at least this world in it, restricted transport magic.
But he could make it work for a thousand kilometres, and most of the people who would want and need this item wouldn’t be more than that far from home more than a few times a century.
That wasn’t particularly hard. You just set a location in advance, or linked it to another rescue token of the same design.
That way, they could all recover at the chief healer, or some other designated Elder who was likely to be safe even when things went horribly wrong on the battlefield. It was the most effective way if you were too far from home to teleport back.
It added some work to the design, but it wasn’t long before Karl had prototypes for the two different designs ready for examination.
All he had to do was call someone over to check on them.
After considering it for a moment, Karl sent a message to Louie, the Vampire Blood Knight. He was a front-line fighter, the mainstay of every combat engagement, so he was the one who was the most likely to need a device like this, and he would be the one who had the most practical experience with what they might want to add.
The Vampire was shocked to be called upon. He had just gotten out of bed, as the sun was just going down, and he got a message from Karl, who was usually happy to bother Oak and Leon for the day to day stuff.
That made him curious.
Immortal Vampires didn’t burn in the sun, or even suffer any debuffs. At least, not at his level of bloodline purity. But it was still much more comfortable for them to be out of the sun.
A fact that constantly reminded them of the suffering of their mortal kin.
He sent a return message, and waited for Karl to open a portal for him. He could walk over, there wasn’t anywhere in town that he couldn’t get to in under a minute, and he had a bat transformation that was capable of supersonic flight.
But he didn’t know where the Branch Leader was.
Karl brought Louie to the workshop in the Guild House, and gestured to the two items on the desk.
"I am working on a Darklight Host exclusive version of the rescue devices. One is a recall token, that will activate on death, or near death, and return you to a set spot or person. The other is very similar, but includes a [Pet Space] style pocket dimension with resurrection and healing effects.
As long as the soul damage isn’t too severe, it should let anyone recover on their own in a designated safe location."
Louie chuckled as he looked at the second one.
"You know, those things are actually the source of the Genie In A Bottle type myths? People set a safe location in a cave or other hidden location where they won’t be disturbed as they recover. Then they take a massive amount of soul damage during an attack, and need centuries to recover, so they never leave, and someone finds their token.
Sometimes they kill the intruder, but most of the time they use them to carry the token somewhere new and just send out an incorporeal version of themselves to make a deal.
Though, often that incorporeal version of themselves is the only thing they can send out safely with their soul and Immortal Spirit destabilized.
When you have a lot of power, Soul Damage is especially effective, as your power will recover first, and using it will cause additional damage to a soul that isn’t stable and strong enough to withstand that much force.
I actually quite like them, though."
He took out a small red stone, and Karl smiled. It was very nearly the same item, though Louie’s appeared to be inactive, possibly due to distance to the last place he had designated.
"Alright, do you see any issues with the ones that I have made? Did I overlook anything? There is food and such in the pocket dimension."
Louie shrugged. "That’s better than most. Remember that they’re usually made by mages not Pet Sitters. So, the user has to bring their own supplies, the space doesn’t usually supply them.
That’s what makes recovery take so long.
With that sort of space, a century to recover should be more than enough for any level of damage, even to a Legend reduced to a soul fragment without a body to reform. Give them a hundred years in a pet space, and they’ll be back to full strength and planning vengeance, not looking for a new hiding spot.
The recall tokens look good as well. Your runes for extended range are solid. If you’d like, I can help you make an alternate that ties directly person to person.
It’s a unique skill of a Blood Array Master, and it keeps the token from being used if stolen. It can also be used to kill the bearer if they’re ejected from the Guild for treason."
That was something that Karl had not considered.
In all his admittedly limited time, they had never had to eject someone from the Darklight Host.
