The Extinction Healer of the Beast Husbands

Chapter 67: Ch 67. Selena is Dying

  • Next Chapter

Upon arriving at the palace, the four other Beast Kings—who had followed after receiving a message from Jhon—immediately rushed to Selena’s room.

She was lying on the bed, her eyes closed, looking pale and not as radiant as usual.

"Selena... What happened?" Vylen, Stoner, Dorven, and Stevan almost asked in unison.

They all stepped closer, surrounding Selena’s bed with worried expressions.

"What happened to her that she’s like this?" Stoner looked at Kav and Kev seriously. "She was fine this morning—why is she like this now?!"

"How did you protect her? Why did she faint, and why is her face so pale?!" added Vylen, his face tense with panic. "Give us a reasonable explanation—Selena, the healer of extinction, how did she end up like this?"

Vee, knowing that Kav and Kev weren’t in good shape either, finally stepped in to answer the question.

"Your Majesty, please forgive us... While we were searching for medicinal ingredients near the forest, the Queen was already exhausted. We suggested we return home, and after successfully obtaining one more necessary ingredient, the Queen agreed to go back."

"But on the way to the carriage, we were ambushed by a black shadow. Kav and Kev tried to defeat it to protect the Queen, but that figure was incredibly powerful. Kav and Kev were clearly no match for it because it possessed superior abilities and was unbeatable. The Queen, seeing that Kav and Kev were beginning to run out of strength and energy, secretly transferred her own energy to them—which is what made the Queen even more exhausted and eventually caused her to faint."

"Before fainting, the Queen still managed to summon the Eagle military forces using the plaque given to her by Young Master Hawksen when she purchased us. Luckily, the Eagle military forces arrived quickly; otherwise, we might have died, and who knows what would have become of the Queen," Vee explained carefully and seriously.

"A black shadow?" Dorven raised his eyebrows, his face stiff.

"That’s right, Your Majesty. He’s incredibly powerful; his target was the Queen, but he didn’t ask for help politely if that’s what he needed. It seems he deliberately wanted to capture the Queen and take her away; after all, the Queen’s status is very special, and many enemies might be targeting her," Vee said, causing the five men to clench their fists.

"Damn it, where did he go after that?" Stoner asked, annoyed.

"He vanished toward the west; the Eagle military forces are chasing him because he was detected as an enemy from the neighboring world. We don’t know anything else because we immediately hopped on a horse-drawn carriage and headed home. Luckily they showed up—otherwise, the Queen might have been in serious trouble," said Vee, causing them all to let out a heavy sigh.

"What should we do now?"

"Call the best doctors from each of our clans—we must heal Selena immediately," Vylen said as he stood up. "I’ll also search for the best doctor in all of Eldoria; no matter what it takes, I’ll heal Selena."

"Yes, that’s a great idea! Call Xoruc Dee, too—he’s the heir to Eldoria’s greatest doctor!"

"Don’t make too much of a fuss—it’s not wise to let all of Eldoria know that Selena isn’t well. People with malicious intent will surely try to take advantage of the situation; we must be vigilant and ensure everything remains under control."

Each of them eventually called their assistants to find a doctor. Meanwhile, Vee politely asked the Kings to wait a moment while she changed Selena into a comfortable nightgown.

All night long and for two consecutive days, the five Beast Kings took turns watching over Selena, who still hadn’t regained consciousness. Various doctors came to examine her, but they couldn’t do anything meaningful to treat her.

Selena was a Healer of Extinction; naturally, her level of healing was on a different level. She possessed self-healing abilities, but even those weren’t much help because the process was so slow. This indicated that Selena’s condition was truly severe enough that they had given up.

"What should we do? No one can heal her," said Vylen, his eyes red from crying.

"Yeah, she hasn’t woken up for two days now. What exactly is she going through that’s made it this bad?" Jhon clutched Selena’s hand tightly, feeling that her palm had been slightly cold since last night.

Stoner, Dorven, and Stevan looked dejected, staring at Selena as she lay there, her condition no better than before.

"This is all my fault. I shouldn’t have left her that day," Vylen muttered, blaming herself. "I should have taken care of her. She’s in this state because of me."

"Our presence isn’t helping much either—we’re in critical condition ourselves and need treatment from her. Don’t blame yourself," Dorven replied, causing Vylen to lower her head and cover her face.

"I didn’t even get a chance to thank her for being so kind to me. Now that she’s like this, I feel stupid for being so useless," Stevan hissed, clenching his hands tightly.

"You guys are still better off because you’ve received her care; I never did," Dorven replied with a somber expression. "Now she’s ended up like this—we don’t even know what to do."

Stoner, for his part, clenched his fists, feeling confused because several times he’d tried to transfer energy to Selena, but her body had rejected it. It wasn’t just him—Jhon, Vylen, Stevan, and Dorven had also taken turns trying to transfer energy to her, but none of them had succeeded at all.

Selena rejected all their energy, leaving them completely helpless because they couldn’t do a thing.

"Selena, aren’t you hungry?" John whispered softly, gazing into Selena’s eyes, which remained closed. "I’ve prepared lots of sweet, rare fruits—you should be able to taste them now. Wake up so I can bring some to you."

Selena didn’t respond at all; only her stomach moved slowly, indicating that she was still breathing.

"Come on, wake up. We haven’t had a chance to show you the beauty of Eldoria yet."

"Selena, please forgive us for always causing you trouble. You ended up like this because of us—you were injured while searching for medicine for us. Please forgive us... Next time, we’ll go with you to look for them—you won’t have to put yourself in danger anymore."

"Don’t leave us... We still need you so much..."

"Selena, I promise I’ll give you all my wealth as long as you wake up... Please, don’t leave us so soon..."

Vee quietly wiped her eyes, wet with tears. Meanwhile, Kav and Kev could only stand stiffly, their faces somber as they watched Selena lying there unconscious.

"I should have been stronger so I could protect the Queen even better."

"Yes, I think so too. From now on, in my free time, I’ll train hard; at night, I won’t go to sleep right away after watching over the Queen. I’ll train some more so I can become even stronger."

Kav and Kev both made this promise, hoping Selena would wake up safely. However, by nightfall, Selena still hadn’t woken up at all.

As night fell, the Kings present there also finally excused themselves for a short while; they had to attend to some official duties as Kings. Meanwhile, Jhon remained in Selena’s room, keeping her company while reviewing her important documents.

Vee was wiping Selena’s body with warm water to make her cleaner and more comfortable, causing Jhon to glance at them occasionally and sigh heavily.

"Your Majesty, I’ve changed the Queen’s clothes," said Vee, prompting Jhon to nod. "Do you need anything else?"

"No, go get some rest. I’ll watch over her tonight."

Vee nodded obediently, carrying the basin of water and Selena’s dirty clothes out of the room. Jhon got up from his seat, walked over to Selena’s bed, and gazed at his wife’s face, which still showed no signs of improvement.

Jhon let out a sigh as he gently stroked Selena’s face.

"You should be able to wake up again, right? You must be healing yourself in there, right?" John murmured softly before gathering the courage to kiss Selena’s forehead for a moment. "Rest easy, heal yourself properly, little by little. Once you’re better, wake up for us—we’ll be waiting for you."

John gently stroked Selena’s face, smiling at her beauty even in her current state of illness.

Thinking about how his child would one day be born from this woman’s womb, for some reason Jhon felt happy and looked forward to it. Even though Selena still didn’t want to fully trust them because of past mistakes, it would just take time.

Jhon would make sure Selena forgave him; whether it took a long time or a short time, he would ensure Selena stayed by his side.

"I prefer the you of today over the you of the past. Even though you’re more outspoken, arrogant, and aloof now, that very side of your personality is actually endearing." John smiled as he said this, striking up a conversation with Selena even though she was still unconscious.

"You know, Vylen, Stoner, Stevan, and Dorven are deeply saddened by your condition. They feel like they’ve lost a home, lost a place to turn to. The Selena of the past never made them care that much, but the Selena you are now has them heartbroken seeing you like this—and me too," Jhon said with a small chuckle.

He wiped away his own tears, having cried without realizing it.

"If you wake up, they’ll be so happy, Selena. Please get well soon... Wake up for us... You—"

Jhon’s words trailed off as he saw Selena’s eyes slowly open. His eyes widened in surprise; filled with joy, he wrapped his arms around Selena and looked closely at her face.

"Selena... Are you awake?!"
