Chapter 661 - 353: Mr. Bai: I’m About to Die
Chapter 661: Chapter 353: Mr. Bai: I’m About to Die
August 12th.
Jiang Man sat on the stone stool in the small courtyard, holding a piece of flatbread in his hand and slowly nibbling on it.
Recently, rumors about Fang Yong had been multiplying. It started as whispers among the Golden Core Disciples, but now even people in the Outer Sect were discussing him. Listening to the various rumors, Jiang Man formed a guess in his heart. He could figure out what Fang Yong was trying to do, but he couldn’t pinpoint the exact details.
"He’s selling himself out with such vigor, he’s probably going to strike it rich overnight." Jiang Man took a bite of the flatbread, chewed twice, and swallowed. His tone carried a hint of melancholy. "He didn’t include me at all this time, which means he’s planning to hog all the profits for himself."
The Old Yellow Ox munched on some grass and casually asked, "Do you have anything left to sell lately?"
Jiang Man pondered for a moment. Although he had done some pretty big things recently, there really wasn’t anything he could sell within the Sect.
"So, it’s my fault?" Jiang Man couldn’t help but ask.
The Old Yellow Ox didn’t answer, merely tearing up another mouthful of grass and stuffing it into its mouth.
Jiang Man shook his head helplessly. "Whatever. I’ll find out in due time."
"Why don’t you just ask him directly?" the Old Yellow Ox asked.
"Who knows if someone is keeping an eye on him," Jiang Man said with a shrug.
The Tengu leaped down from the eaves, squatting in the middle of the courtyard and looking up at him. Jiang Man tossed it a piece of flatbread, then took out a pen and paper to write a letter to Song Qing. He had Chang Qiweng deliver it.
He decided not to go himself, afraid of running into the Bai Family Ancestor. He noticed that the Ancestor had been visiting the flatbread shop every single day to eat flatbread, and he had no idea what was wrong with the man. An old monster who had lived for countless years, yet he loved eating flatbread and drinking soy milk. Nine times out of ten, he had never experienced hardship in his childhood and was eating this stuff for the very first time.
"Time to get ready, I need to go complete my mission. The application went smoothly this time, all thanks to Senior Sister Yu," Jiang Man sighed emotionally.
But before he left, he had to go see Ji Meng.
Taiyang was scorching. Its rays fell upon the stone-paved floor of Ji Meng’s courtyard, baking the ground until it turned pale.
Inside the pavilion, Ji Meng sat by the table, a steaming cup of tea resting near her hand. Upon hearing Jiang Man’s purpose for coming, she straightened up slightly, somewhat surprised.
"You’re leaving to complete a mission already?" Ji Meng looked at Jiang Man and continued, "I thought you were going to wait until you finished the Upper Courtyard assessment."
"The mission application has been sorted out." Jiang Man snacked on the pastries on the table as he filled her in on his recent affairs.
Ji Meng rested her chin on one hand, listening with keen interest. After Jiang Man finished, she finally asked, "Did none of them disagree?"
"They are all good people," Jiang Man mumbled, stuffing a pastry into his mouth with deep emotion.
During their fights, there were indeed some who talked tough, feeling that even if they lost, they wouldn’t give up their quota. Left with no choice, Jiang Man could only channel a Grand Technique. And when Great Sun Shining Sky was brought out, they all agreed.
Disagreeing meant suffering heavy injuries. Let alone keeping their quota, they wouldn’t even be able to participate in the assessment. Besides, it was just one person agreeing; it didn’t affect the others. There were still twenty-nine other people who could refuse. As long as even one of them didn’t nod in agreement, the matter wouldn’t pass.
Therefore, there was no need for them to be stubborn. They could leave the stubbornness to everyone else. And since the others thought the exact same way, things went much more smoothly.
Jiang Man picked up a second pastry, looked at Ji Meng, and smiled. "My trip this time should take a while, but Miss Ji Meng can look forward to it."
Hearing this, Ji Meng lowered the hand propping up her chin, sat up straight, and asked with a face full of curiosity, "Look forward to what?"
Jiang Man gave a mysterious smile. "During this trip, if all goes smoothly, the surprise I’ve been preparing for Miss Ji Meng should be completed. I’ll be able to give it to Miss Ji Meng when I get back."
Ji Meng was somewhat surprised by Jiang Man’s words. She blinked. She couldn’t for the life of her figure out what kind of surprise Jiang Man was preparing for her. A few ideas crossed her mind, but she rejected them one by one. Finally, she nodded and said, "Then I’ll wait here."
Afterward, Jiang Man asked some questions regarding Arrays. This was still to prepare for dealing with the Wuyou Evil God.
It wasn’t until dawn that Jiang Man curbed his eagerness to learn. Instead, he opted to buy some Array Materials. After all, to deal with the Wuyou Evil God’s Array, he also needed to set up an Array of his own. The materials had to be sufficient, or else accidents could easily happen, and he would be left with endless regrets.
Jiang Man spent all of his remaining Spiritual Source, leaving with a massive pile of materials. His Storage Treasure was barely enough to hold it all.
Early the next morning.
The sky was not yet completely bright, and the thin mist in the mountains had not fully dissipated. Jiang Man arrived at the Law Enforcement Hall, accepted his mission, and set off with two other fellow disciples.
One man and one woman, both at Primordial Spirit Perfection.
"Your mission this time is to cooperate with the people from the Immortal Sect. They are already waiting at the Overseas Islands," Ren Qian reminded them. Pausing for a moment, he continued, "In addition, you need to exercise a certain degree of autonomy because the people from the Immortal Sect might need to complete their own tasks. As long as you can enter the inner Sea Area and record the situation inside, your mission will be considered complete.
"The mission reward is a Magical Treasure. You can really look forward to that."
Jiang Man was somewhat astonished that the reward was actually a Magical Treasure.
Under the great governance of the Immortal Sect, Magical Treasures were actually quite rare. The most common items were Spirit Swords and Magic Robes. Other Magical Treasures required more time to research and Forging, making them a minority. Spirit Swords and Magic Robes were absolute necessities, so they were given priority in both Forging and research.
Afterward, all three of them received a Silver Token. Under Ren Qian’s activation, a brilliant light from the tokens enveloped them, and they vanished from the spot.
"Everyone, this mission is extremely dangerous. Returning Void cultivators would be too easily detected if they went, which is why Primordial Spirit Perfection cultivators were chosen. However, this also means the danger level is much higher. If there are any issues, crush the token immediately, and you will be transported back to the Overseas Islands."
