The End of the Immortal Path
Chapter 610: How Did It Turn Into Making Me Suffer?
Chapter 610 -333: How Did It Turn Into Making Me Suffer?
My name is Luo Jian. I was once a disciple of the Wuyun Sect. With my family’s help, I successfully achieved Foundation Establishment and Core Formation, eventually entering the Inner Sect. However, upon entering the Inner Sect, I realized that someone like me—considered a prodigy back in Luoyun City—was nothing but utterly ordinary here. Even the rarest geniuses from the city were a dime a dozen. Blessed geniuses wielding vast amounts of resources struggled to advance, let alone someone like me, who hailed from a small town.
My former pride suffered a tremendous blow, but that was merely the beginning. After reaching the Golden Core stage, advancing was exponentially harder than I ever imagined. The complexity of Cultivation Skills and Magic Skills was staggering; just comprehending them was an incredibly arduous task.
Yet, others claimed that there were no true geniuses at the Golden Core stage, asserting that true Talent wasn’t truly revealed until later. Most of my peers continued to progress at a tremendous pace. I, on the other hand, crawled at a snail’s pace. Was I not already teetering on the edge of elimination? The mere thought left me in a constant state of panic. The hopes of my family and the prospects of my future seemed to collapse all at once.
Unsurprisingly, it took me a massive amount of time just to reach Golden Core Perfection. I was single-handedly holding the family up. I felt I had hit my absolute limit; without some miraculous encounter, this would be the pinnacle of my life. However, there were no successors in my family. If I fell, the Luo family wouldn’t last long either. I wanted to risk everything for a breakthrough, but I simply lacked the opportunity.
Just as I was about to resign myself to fate, I received an undercover mission. The Lingyue Sect. It was the place that finally offered me a glimmer of hope. Upon arriving, I quickly realized their desperate need for Cultivation Skills. They needed the skills, the understanding of how to use them, and, above all, proper management. More importantly, their Sect Leader had also realized this. These were things I could provide. In return, I needed resources and hope. These were things they possessed. Ultimately, we hit it off perfectly. I defected from the Wuyun Sect and became the Grand Elder of the Lingyue Sect.
I knew intimately the sheer power of the Wuyun Sect, so I made sure never to cross the point of no return. Even when backup from the Wuyun Sect arrived later, I remained firmly entrenched here. As for my family, if I succeeded, they would rise to prominence. If I failed, a family with no successors was destined to decline and perish anyway. I might as well let them gamble alongside me. Facts proved that I had won the gamble.
Not only did I achieve my breakthrough, but I also received news of the Sect’s expansion. The Lingyue Sect was included. I had once again become an official member of the Sect.
Luo Jian stood behind the Sect Leader, watching him sign the contract. As long as this signature was finalized, his future would be a smooth, paved road. The moment he saw the Sect Leader complete the signature, the massive boulder weighing on Luo Jian’s heart was finally lifted. He had obtained an official status once more. His hardships had finally paid off. The future now held endless possibilities. He could finally reach out to the family he hadn’t contacted in so long. Though they might not be doing well right now, their lives would only get better from here.
Jiang Man watched the other party sign the contract and breathed a sigh of relief. The mission was now more than halfway complete. All that remained was the handover and establishing contact with the Sect. The resources could begin to be distributed. The people here who needed training would receive it, and those who needed further studies would be sent for them. In addition, the most crucial step was identity registration. The final phase would be the popularization of Simple Skills. However, none of this was Jiang Man’s job; it was all Zhuo Qingcheng and her team’s responsibility.
“Find me a quiet place. I need to start my Cultivation,” Jiang Man said.
He Que frowned. “You’re going to cultivate again, Senior Brother? Shouldn’t we deal with those experts who suddenly showed up?”
Jiang Man turned to look at him. “You have a point.” He then addressed the Sect Leader, “You have a danger lurking here. Now that you are under the jurisdiction of the Wuyun Sect, you have the right to request reinforcements. Speak with Senior Sister Zhuo and have her help you send a request for aid to the Sect. Someone will soon come to handle the situation.”
“Huh?”
Not only the Sect Leader but even Zhuo Qingcheng was stunned. Was that how it worked? They couldn’t help but wonder if their Senior Brother was sure he wasn’t breaking the rules.
Han Meixue said cautiously, “Senior Brother, this situation is basically the same as last time.”
“They are two completely different matters,” Jiang Man said earnestly. “There’s no whistleblower this time.”
Three days later.
Jiang Man received feedback from the Sect. It was sent via special communication—a unique method reserved for the expansion phase. Otherwise, considering the vast distance, it would have been much slower.
“What’s the verdict?” Jiang Man asked.
Zhuo Qingcheng looked a bit embarrassed. “Sect missions are currently being managed by the Law Enforcement Hall, so Senior Brother Ren Qian replied. He said that you’ve broken the rules this time, Senior Brother.”
Jiang Man paused, completely baffled. “How is it a violation? It’s completely different from last time.”
“It is different,” Zhuo Qingcheng nodded. “But a few days ago, someone pulled a stunt similar to yours, so that loophole was patched.”
Jiang Man was astonished. Had he become the sacrificial lamb forced to swallow the bitter pill? He had missed the window by just a few days. What a pity. The people involved in this expansion were certainly no pushovers.
Zhuo Qingcheng paused for a moment and said, “However, there’s some good news.”
Jiang Man didn’t say a word, quietly listening.
“Although it’s a violation, the decree hasn’t officially been issued yet, so it can still be counted as two missions.” Zhuo Qingcheng added, “However, it only counts as mission completions, with no extra rewards. Furthermore, you still have to handle the matter yourself, Senior Brother, as it affects your expansion merits.”
Jiang Man was somewhat surprised. It counted as two missions? This wouldn’t mean much to anyone else, but to him, it was immensely useful. At the very least, it meant he wouldn’t have to go out on another mission next year. With a single mission taking this long, he was definitely taking a loss. By not being able to return this time, he stood to lose a hundred thousand. If he couldn’t return next year either, he would lose the opportunity to advance to Returning Void. Therefore, getting the mission count was far better than any material reward. It meant he would be able to focus on his Cultivation properly next year. This was a good thing.
Jiang Man immediately nodded. “We’ll accept the mission. Call the Sect Leader and the others over.”
