Chapter 312: Hunting the Black Goat 4
Chapter 312: Chapter 257: Hunting the Black Goat 4
However, bullets kept flying in unpredictably from the hillsides outside the village, picking off the villagers who got near the inn.
Following the trajectory of the shots, Han Su immediately spotted the shooter, prone on a hillside with a sniper rifle.
The Mercenary squad from outside the village was in position. Three of them were launching a frontal assault, slaughtering any villager they came across. The other two had set up long-range rifles and were firing into the mist-shrouded village. Every bullet claimed the life of another villager.
The pervasive black fog could swallow any unprepared opponent, but it seemed to have no effect on the Mercenaries.
Akbar, the Queen Bee, had dared to take this job because she had an ace up her sleeve.
Her ability allowed her to communicate with her entire Mercenary squad via pheromones, requiring neither sound nor sight.
Any villager who came near her would be marked by her pheromones. The snipers on the hillside would then use those pheromonal coordinates to open fire. Their aim was exceptionally precise—every shot was a kill. In a way, this perfectly countered the villagers’ own abilities.
“Let’s go!”
As the stench of blood filled the air and the villagers died gruesome deaths, the black fog began to thin, and Han Su could hear her voice once more.
By now, they had reached the center of the village and were stealthily advancing toward the house ahead, where the black fog was thickest.
Akbar knew their target was just ahead. She also knew that was where the largest number of villagers would be gathered. More importantly, the true power of the Black Goat was far beyond what these villagers possessed. Her guard went up, and with her gun drawn, she quickened her pace.
Han Su followed behind her, silently considering his own plan.
‘There’s no need to waste any more time. I have no interest in joining this hive, nor am I interested in the mission from Giant Horn City.’
‘So, how can I effectively get close to the Count of Skinning Manor?’
‘This squad has shown a decent level of professionalism, but I have no real interest in becoming their teammate.’
‘After all, this woman has been wanting to turn me into one of her worker bees…’
‘Of course, for some reason, she only thought about it and never actually tried anything.’
‘But even thinking about it is unacceptable. The thought itself is a crime!’
‘The only thing I need to consider is that while a lone wolf has freedom, being on your own has its inconveniences…’
‘I need people to help me with certain things, too.’
‘So then…’
As he was rapidly thinking, Akbar suddenly grew wary. She darted forward and took cover behind an earthen mound, whispering, “There’s a problem!”
“It looks like Giant Horn City hired us, and Skinning Manor hired help of their own…”
“…”
Han Su realized the problem, too. The House of Sacrifice was clearly right in front of them, less than a hundred meters away.
But despite moving at their current pace for dozens of seconds, they discovered the House of Sacrifice was still in the exact same place.
The distance between them and the House of Sacrifice seemed to have been silently stretched.
Akbar realized this wasn’t one of the Black Goat’s abilities, which meant she had a good idea of which faction their new opponents belonged to.
Han Su, however, felt a flicker of joy upon noticing the change in their surroundings. He just wasn’t sure if the newcomer was who he thought it was. But that thought was only a momentary flash before the air around him began to slowly crystallize.
A voice, tinged with a faint smile, rang out. “Seeing that you’re safe and sound, I can finally rest easy…”
The moment Han Su heard that voice, a feeling of relief finally washed over him.
‘It’s Wei Lan. She found me!’
