The dragon's harem

Chapter 2281: The Storm of Destruction Is Approaching

  • Next Chapter

Merlin was left with a whole mountain of work, like a lot, and it was all thanks to Yog’s stupid order. Currently, thirty-two void dragons have arrived at the camp, and she is supposed to build a temporary base for each of them to swallow and use as mobile bases?

"Are we supposed to just wait here?" One of the void dragons asked, and Merlin threw a stare at him. "For now, yes. As stated before, the angels and archons will protect you. You don’t need to fight unless your life depends on it. In the future, you will be carrying thousands of angels inside your stomach, so your death dooms them as well."

The dragon frowned, and then looked up. "I’m certain I can kill a few of those abominations. I might not be powerful enough to match the archons, but this is all I’ll do: what I can. If this camp is destroyed, I’ll be killed."

Merlin looked at the camp again. The void dragons weren’t all gathered in one place, since they couldn’t get close to each other due to the repulsion, so they were spread all over the place, with each of the dragons having at least two archons protecting them, along with a whole battalion of angels.

Currently, Merlin was busy making the second base. She needed several things, a space wide enough to fit many angels; the ability to provide healing, a direct link to the gods, and several layers of magical defenses and offensive arrays.

As she was working, the dragon who sat several tens of meters away from her asked. "Say, witch... I smell two void dragons on you. A dragon and a drakaina... have you met them recently?"

"Your nose is really something." Merlin replied. "I indeed did, in fact, I’m really close with them." She kept working, and the dragon laughed.

"More than just close... I can tell the drakaina is a young adult... but the dragon... he is something else. He is... dense, to say the least. An adult just like me, but far stronger... on the verge of evolving, I’d say." Merlin shifted her gaze back at the dragon.

"You can tell that much just by smell alone?" As she asked, he laughed. "I mean, can’t humans tell someone’s rough age just by sight? Smell is the same for us dragons."

He leaned back on the stone he was sitting on and stared into the distance. Angels fought to the death; horrifying abominations clashed everywhere; the sky was a starless void... This place was nothing like the world he used to live in.

"I’m done!" Merlin spoke and waved her hand, summoning a massive meteor that was almost ten kilometers wide and was filled with small bases, tents, and even magically created servants that took the form of ghosts to help carry the wounded and heal them.

The void dragon looked at the massive meteor with wide-open eyes. "It’s impressive no matter how I look at it. To be able to create such a massive object just with magic."

Merlin threw the meteor at him. "Just swallow it and get moving. This should be enough for this battle."

The dragon jumped, absorbed the entire meteor in an instant, and flew away in his draconic form, followed by thousands of angels, like an aircraft carrier being followed by tens of fighter jets protecting it.

Merlin looked up at the dragon leaving as her hands were already moving to create the next base.

This battlefield was even worse than anything she had seen in the mortal world. All of the wars down there now look like mere children playing with each other. Around her, Merlin could see and hear powerful angels clashing with horrors beyond human comprehension, each clash unleashing enough power to erase mountains.

Her magic is powerful, but nowhere near enough. She looked up and saw Yog commanding the entire army from up high, flinging spells that Merlin couldn’t even begin to fathom.

One of the spells that she could at least guess what it did was a massive array of magic circles that spread across the battlefield and teleported the angels around to balance the army’s power. If the west wing had suffered a lot of damage while the east wing was fine, this spell teleported angels from the east wing to support the west wing.

At the same time, the spell regenerated the angel’s divine energy so they could fight for longer. Of course, while Yog’s angels were fine with that, the angels of other gods were absolutely against using divine magic from anyone other than their god, so the spell also attached itself to the gods of those angels and gave them a burst of the divine magic they wanted.

But that wasn’t all; Yog also seemed to be handling the communication between all angels, not just with the gods commanding their own battalions. She masterfully delivered specific thoughts between angels to allow them to fight in sync, which was an absurd level of Mental Magic that Merlin could only guess at how it worked.

"I’ll let you learn this magic later, for now. Focus on making the bases. We have nowhere near enough mobile bases to support a war at this scale. If things keep going like this, Amaterasu might blow this entire place, sacrificing everyone to kill the avatars." Yog’s voice reached Merlin’s ears as if she was sitting by her side, and that felt a bit weird. Which wasn’t really weird since Yog is mana itself, and she can create bodies from mana anywhere that mana exists, and she didn’t need to create a body to generate her voice from the mana in the air.

"I’ll look forward to that." Merlin smiled as she started working on the next base, and the time felt as if it was flowing slower and slower. The war was still raging on; destruction and death bloomed everywhere, but still... Merlin felt calm, as if a true storm was about to hit them.

"Yog, I’m getting a very strange feeling. As if we haven’t seen the worst yet." As Merlin asked, Yog yelled at her immediately. "Don’t say that! Keep your mouth closed! You’ll jinx us."

Yog then growled. "While I know most things and I can even predict things here, Nyar himself isn’t part of my knowledge, so he is an unpredictable variable, and the result of this war is unpredictable because of that."

This was the source of Merlin’s fear and anxiety. Inside the universe, no matter how bad things got, Merlin knew that Yog already saw it coming and that everything was going according to her will and plans; that gave her, as a wizard, some kind of relief.

That isn’t the case here. Yog’s knowledge is limited, and so is her protection.

As if to answer Merlin’s fear, the Gravastar’s shell cracked, and Amaterasu growled. "It can’t be!"

Vorvadoss had managed to take Luminous, Linda, and Death herself down, and he had even fatally injured Eris and Sena, causing the forming Gravastar to crack.
