Chapter 1741: To Fall Like Flies
Chapter 1741: To Fall Like Flies
When the overgod, Cain Lisworth, went insane, he lost his dominion over the universe as the overgod. That had created a ripple which mortals could sense or understand, and even some gods couldn’t tell the difference, but Nyar and the abomination could. Like flies swarming a dying beast, they could just know the overgod was no more.
What made that worse was that the abominations had countless sleeper cells, agents, spies, and hidden nodes of power spread through the entire universe. In the same way the gods could explore the void outside the universe, the abominations were able to explore the inside. This was a war, and gathering intelligence was the most important need both sides had.
Nyar could’ve attacked immediately, but where would he attack? A reckless charge would only result in disaster. So, he waited for a few hours, days, and looked for any anomaly that could give him an advantage, and he soon found it.
The overgod was hiding deep beneath the mortal world’s ocean, and he ended up clashing with Violet, also known as Vasilissa, Arad Orion’s mother and the current keeper of AO’s core. As expected, that fight had ended with Violet being extremely weakened and wounded.
This chance would never repeat itself. Not many people could push that drakaina as hard as Cain did.
If she had faced anyone else, she could’ve recovered in a day or two, but what Violet faced was Cain Lisworth. Even without the overgod’s authority, he was still the divine god of madness. The mental damage he could inflict, coupled with his harrowing spell craft that matches Yog, no one could even contend with him.
Violet surviving the encounter was a miracle in and of itself. Cain Lisworth, even before his prime, had managed to defeat Amaterasu. He was a bad matchup for anyone sentient; he is the enemy of sanity, reason, and anything intelligent. What Nyar feared most was that Cain would steal AO’s core, and then getting that core would turn into a painful disaster.
If you can think, you’re going to lose to Cain. And if you can’t think, good luck dealing with a mage as skilled as Yog.
But Nyar was lucky, Violet survived, and AO’s core was now unprotected and ready to be snatched away. All he had to do was kill Violet’s protectors, catch her, then extract the core. Extracting the core takes time after all, and he doesn’t want to get interrupted.
But, what a tall task… Nyar didn’t know which one would’ve been easier. The mess he is in right now, or facing Cain, the mad god. He was now surrounded by hundreds of people, powerful legends, gods, and even angels. They locked him up inside a demi-plan to keep the mortal world safe, and were now willing to use a bit more power without the fear of collateral damage.
Honestly, this is much easier than dealing with an insane Cain. Even if Nyar was to lose today, he would still be happy to sit and watch, to see how the gods would deal with the new existence threat that they set loose upon the universe.
With one arm, he blocked Tiamat in her track, and with the other, he caught Maharaja by the face, keeping her massive maw away from his head. Eris tried to fly in and land an attack, but before she could know it, she was far away with a gaping hole in her stomach.
It happened so fast that she didn’t even realize she got hit for a second.
Merida jumped, but ended up beheaded before she could even swing her blade, leading to Tiamat screaming at them to stay away. “You all lack speed! He moves at the speed of light, and if you can’t match that, you’ll just end up dead!”
Luminous flew in and snatched Gamond and Balina, who were about to charge in. “Didn’t you hear her? You two are too slow, stay back! Or attack from range.” After dropping those two back, she flew right in to help the gods alongside Linda.
She can’t let any of Arad’s wives die here. How could she explain herself to Arad when he returns? She is a war veteran, and this isn’t the first avatar she faced. But… this is the first time she faced an avatar in the confines of a fragile world.
And on top of all of that, Betty… is she alive? This bastard, she wants nothing more than to blast him back to the void. The rage, worry, and stress muddled her mind, and she now found it hard to keep her head clear.
“I see, you shouldn’t have let them come here.” Nyar smiled, then disappeared. They couldn’t actually see his face; beneath his dark hood, there was nothing but darkness and twisting red tendrils that formed the resemblance of a stoic face.
In the next second, he was standing behind Gamond, swinging his fist down at her head. “Die!”
Mental damage is the best; all he had to do was kill the weak ones first, and the strong will falter. He could already see that Luminous found it hard to focus while worried about Betty, and he was going to capitalize on that.
But then, a fist crashed into his face, sending him flying back to where he was before. He flinched for a second, unable to figure out who attacked him. He kept all people fast enough to hit him in his mind, so who was it?
To Nyar’s surprise, a human?? stood behind Gamond, looking at her fist with a puzzled face. She turned and glared at him with glowing golden eyes. “I hit you?” Nina tilted her head. She just got a feeling that Nyar would target Gamond to spite Luminous for saving her, but she didn’t expect to actually land a hit.
In the next moment, Nyar was already beside her, swinging his fist. Nina’s instincts kicked in long before that, and she was moving to defend herself even before he started moving. Sadly, instincts alone won’t help her that much; she can predict where he would show up, but if she can’t do anything about it, that would be her end.
Just like that, Nyar’s arm ripped Nina’s whole head off, shattering it like a melon. “Slow, surprised me the first time, Tarrasque child, but now, stay dead.”
Seeing Nina getting beheaded was harrowing enough to make everyone halt for a second. It achieved Nyar’s desired effect. He knew that the moment people started dropping like flies, the stress would break the ranks of everyone attacking him. They weren’t an organized squad, and he wasn’t going to let that opening go unused.
This would’ve been the start to the end, but it wasn’t. Before anyone could panic, Nina’s body moved. This wasn’t the first time she was beheaded, and ever since mastering her Tarrasque blood, getting beheaded won’t be enough to kill her.
Her hand grabbed Nyar by the neck, and her skull started rapidly regenerating. From the blood came the veins, then the bones and muscles; they all boiled from her bloodied neck to form a new head. As her eyes formed, they were glaring right back at Nyar’s dark face.
He swung at her again, shattering her forming skull, but she too moved, smacking him in the guts with a thundering punch.
