Chapter 1728: Back From The Dead
Chapter 1728: Back From The Dead
The Ice Brood Mother had to take her time, rest, and gather herself. So, she found a nice ice crack in the mountainside, and crawled in with Gojo, locking the entrance behind them with ice magic. Even casting such a basic spell caused her a headache, and she once again blamed Gojo for it, kicking him as hard as she could in her current, weakened state.
Now, she faced two choices. Eat Gojo and heal faster than normal, or keep him alive to become her mate later, but hope the other bald Yeti won’t come looking for them quickly. She had no doubt that if Arad showed up, she would be dead in seconds. Right now, she probably couldn’t even defeat one of her daughters, let alone a jacked-up Yeti with a vendetta.
In rage, she turned toward Gojo and kicked him in the face several times, before growling and then punching the wall. Her powerful poison will keep him paralyzed for days, and it is literally impossible to recover from.
She took a breath, then looked at Gojo’s bloodied face. His blue eyes were still clear, glaring right back at her with a disturbing light in them. A cold sweat rushed down her spine, and she felt a painful shiver jolt her entire body. She didn’t like his gaze one bit and quickly tried to stomp his face down.
It wasn’t Gojo’s fault; he was paralyzed, and he couldn’t close his eyes even if he wanted to. But still, she kept pummelling his face with her foot, one kick after another, even after all of those kicks, Gojo’s eyes were still glaring right back at her, menacingly refusing to close or lose their light.
She’ll gouge them out. So, with that, she sat on Gojo’s chest and reached toward his eyes with her fingers, but stopped an inch away, feeling a terrible sensation jolting her entire body.
She started violently shaking, and even pissed herself, fear that she had never known rushed out of her deep mind to glare at her in the face. Whatever Gojo was, her ancestors had one faced his kind, and suffered great pain from it.
Like a human getting hit with a phobia episode, she jumped back, sweating buckets, and hissed at Gojo before sitting. Her instincts weren’t helping at all; they only told her that she was doomed, that she had messed up, that now, after what she done to Gojo, Arad would rip her guts open and burn her entire brood to the ground.
It didn’t matter what he would do; his body is now a corpse, and he is trapped inside it. He wasn’t glaring at her or trying to be scary. But he did plant a few things in her mind in their fight, and he was certain they were still affecting her until now.
The strongest mind magic wasn’t the one that caused illusions or hallucinations, but the one that implanted fake memories into the brain to affect behaviour.
The Ice Brood Mother had to think and find food quickly. She could go and hunt something, or call one of her brider scouts. If they don’t have a prey with them, she could just eat them and survive. She stood and approached the crack’s entrance. Some of her black threads were outside. She’ll open a tiny hole and send a message.
With two fingers, she reached into her butt. Unlike most humanoids, she has one extra hole there, right where her tail bone should be. That was her spinnerets, where she produced her silk. She pulled a thin thread of silk and looked at it for a second, then started weaving it into a small net.
Sending a message from her was a bit complicated because she doesn’t have any nets already set up, and thus, it would take her at least a minute to set them up.
But as she was thinking, Gojo silently stood behind her, and before she could know it, his fist came crashing down at the back of her head, knocking her to the ground with an impact powerful enough that his arm tore open.
The Ice Brood Mother screamed, her skull cracked open, and she pissed herself again, unable to move or even see; her brain was damaged, and so was her whole body. What hit her, she didn’t know, but something told her it was Gojo. He moved even though he was paralyzed by her poison. She should’ve just finished him off, no, she shouldn’t have fought him in the first place.
Now, she would die, and her entire brood would follow her to the grave. She can’t save them; she was too weak to defeat one bald Yeti, so how could she have ever survived two? Was she just unlucky? Probably, she had only wanted to live in peace and thrive, but it seemed that was too much to ask for.
Standing above her like a wraith, Gojo took a step forward, stepping on her as he walked toward the ice she sealed this crack with, opened it up, and shot a flare into the sky to call Arad. His eyes glared back at the Ice Brood Mother, but this time, he was smiling.
Even though she was almost dead, her eye still moved, and she glared at him. Her monstrous endurance kept her alive, but she was still blind from his earlier punch. But, many of her senses worked fine, and she could know he was glaring at her with those blue eyes as he had before.
Gojo’s whole body was engulfed in a net of dark magic, and she couldn’t tell what it was. But the fine hair on her body stood up, and she could smell death in the air. This was either her end, his end, or he had done something horrific.
When Arad arrived, he almost threw up. His brother was in a sorry state, and so was the Ice Brood Mother. But what terrified him the most was that Gojo’s entire body was engulfed with necrotic magic.
He was a Zombie, an undead horror, and not a human.
“Gojo!” He rushed toward him, and Gojo tried to wave his hand, only to notice that the bones were visible and his forearm was about to fall off.
“What…did you do?” Arad knew that Gojo used necrotic magic somehow, but that wasn’t what he was asking about. What he wanted to know was what to do now.
“I’m alive… barely…” Gojo growled, then glared back at the twitching Ice Brood Mother. “She paralyzed my body, and to move, I used necromancy to force my body to move as if it were a corpse.”
He chuckled. “Undead are just souls sewn to a dead body, and moved by mana. That’s why skeletons can move without muscles.” He leaned on the wall. “I’m not a real zombie, and I can be healed with magic.”
